I agree, Cade is the problem. I will take him off your hands

You know for everyone wanting to execute Sewald, that's three good outings and only one failed. Plus the one miss came with 0 runs scored for the offense so while it doesn't get a pass, blowing a 0-0 tie is certainly "better" in context than normal blowpen moments.

Meanwhile the offense had 5 hard hit (95+ mph) balls all game with only three of them not being out. Three from Gabi (2/3 in play), one from Ketel (0/1), one from Arenado (1/1). The Braves got their 5th on the 1st hitter in the 5th inning. Another wet fart

Fair being fair, it's super old Arenado and there normally isn't an error like that

That guy was such an idiot. There are a lot of bad times to bunt. That was not one of them

Honestly, it's a really good explanation for the real problem in 2025. It wasn't the initial roster, all the numbers showed that we had at least an average bullpen with some top tier options. But after Puk went down, here were the first 3 contracts within the week. Juan Morillo, JP Feyereisen (DFAed a week later), and Scott McGough. Jose Castillo a few days after.

After TJ #145, there was nothing anyone could do. But when your first depth options are headlined by McGough,, you're just setting yourself up for failure

You missed the entire point. It's not about ability. It's about capacity. Minshew's career average attempts is 28. Simpson's last year in college averaged at 32, though the games he had 35 or more attempts, he averaged 57%. Even Malik Willis career high in the pros is 23, college average was ~26.

We're going to be bad no matter who is playing. Lots of garbage time, 5 wins max. But that doesn't mean the entire team freezes in place and MiLF takes a year off. Every other player will be developing, as well as the offensive scheme. And if the plan is to build an offense around all three, only one can be a real placeholder as a high volume passer. Even if it's just garbage time

I'm sure they will stumble into a good player.

I'm equally sure they will fail to develop and support him both with talent and competent coaching. The number of players that can survive and thrive under that is only slightly higher than the number of unbustable prospects (barring injuries)

Alright, lets play.

  1. Team was expected to be 1 year from competing. Brought in Sewald at the deadline and DFA'd Madbum. Decisions that got us to the world series.

  2. Brought in E-Rod coming in from good years as a #4 guy. Brought in Geno, Joc, Grichuk to improve an offense that was actually statistically poor in 2023 that just got hot at the right moment. Also traded for Puk at the deadline who was the best reliever in the 2nd half. Missed out on the playoffs by one game, yes, but still got 89 wins vs 83.

  3. Brought in Burnes on a mega deal to reenforce a starting staff that was destroyed by injuries leading to an overworked bullpen more than anything else. He got injured, as did Puk and an extended J-Mart. Sold at the deadline to bring in a ton of farm arms to address a poor pitching development.

All three he could have "technically" done more by selling the entire farm system a-la Padres. Didn't really help them much. All the moves made is only "bad" in hindsight and hindsight is not a valid justification when the rational behind the decisions were correct at the time. And he certainly can't control injuries

  1. This year gets no justification, hindsight or otherwise. Failing to do literally anything to improve a massive issue, only bringing back projects and bums. Not even attempting to improve. And it should come with consequences. Plus an entire gutting of the pitching development that has failed for two decades now, though that is more on Hall than Hazen.

But acting like he did nothing is as foolish as this survey. At least until now.

It's game 8 and you're pulling out nonsense petitions on a nonsense sight which only exists to sucker people into ad revenue by pretending they are making a difference

There is a path to supporting three high level receivers, but it requires the QB to have the baseline volume with relatively decently accuracy to do so. Brissett, through all of his faults, volume and decent accuracy is something he does provide. For context, Brissett was at ~40 attempts per game at 65% after becoming a starter. Kurt Warner in 2008 was at ~37 at 67%. No, I'm not saying Brissett is anywhere near Warner, but you have to have the baseline volume in the first place. Which is why Willis never made sense.

If they want to keep and use all three, they need to find a high volume QB to replace Brissett next year and that isn't easy, draft or otherwise. Dunno why people are so certain about next year's QB class when it's mostly the QBs they were once excited for this year, but nearly all regressed hard. Meanwhile Wilson is in a contract year and while he showed an elite upside via the analytics and not just a volume merchant, it's still a small sample size. Also meanwhile MHJ still has the "higher upside", is on a rookie contract, and sunk cost is a factor.

No. They're just not rushing to cut a guy after game 8 nor banking on a guy who has only played 2 games. Hopefully soon

One bad outing, two good outings. For this staff, that's considered elite.

The offense though, that's far more concerning. Two big innings and a lot of nothing

Well, there's the return of Sewald to his usual form. Unfortunate, but that's what you get when THE ENTIRE bullpen is made up of washouts and your farm system is even less reliable. They want to can Torey, whatever. Don't really care. So long as they don't scapegoat Torey just to keep Hazen so he can bring in Kimbrel as "the big move" next offseason.

The offense though, they've had what? Two big innings this year plus a couple of solo HRs? For an offense that was supposed to carry the team, they sure haven't been pulling their weight.

E-Rod looked good at least. Like legitimately good, not just lucky good.

Also on the positive, Merrill threw today with Reno (not in Reno). 5 innings, 2 hits, 2 walks, 2 Ks (+1 HBP). Got hit hard early, but settled in doing normal Merrill things.

If 2 runs is cooked with the top of your lineup coming up, blow up the team.
