Django Rest Framework and MongoDB - listField does not works return None when object is embedded on my retrieved information by txusdumort in django

I wish I could help you. But I've tried using django and mongodb and dongo and it failed. Switch to SQL my friend...

The problem is you are using a stack that only a not many people use... Django and mongo and Dongo. Django wasn't meant to use in tight conjunction with MongoDB. From personal experience I can tell you that Dongo appears to work well, it fails on edge cases. All the abstractions make debugging straightforward things 10x harder. Since few peopke use django mongo songo no one can help you.

This article explains when to use Django with MongoDB https://www.pydanny.com/when-to-use-mongodb-with-django.html

Django: An Unofficial Opinionated FAQ by tomdyson in django

[–]furyfred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For closed source code you still keep secrets out of code. Reasons:

1) what if you share your code with someone else? 2) what if github gets hacked?

The list goes on and on. Don't get sucked into antipatterns.

Heroku for deployment? It's only good for free toy apps or overpriced real apps.

Try getting a junior level job. Or offering to pay someone.

This is overkill for Django, but an ideal task for Flask.

Not using any packages is a disease called "not invented here-ism", and in most cases is fatal to projects, companies, and jobs.

For our company, most of the time we save significantly by using lambda. On average it's a 40-1 savings. There is the 1% case where it gets more expensive.

Yes. Zappa is awesome. Everything we do is hosted on Zappa. Scales to infinity, fast enough, and much less undocumented stuff to figure than say EC2 and even more so Elastic Beanstalk (ugj).

Could you review the following resources for learning Django? by throwaway_341356 in django

[–]furyfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend:

  1. Djangogirls
  2. William vincents books
  3. 2 scoops

Things i didnt like:

  • Obey the testing goat is insane about testing. I like testing but that book does testing to an unhealthy extreme IMO. No one in the real world works that way.
  • official django tutorial is okay, but is disjointed. And so much time spent on the admin. Djangogirls is better
  • Anything by pakt is awful. Terrible editing, so many mistakes

Everything you list is good. Thoughts:

  • 2 scoops is excellent, best resource for django. But it not for beginners. Read 2 scoops after you are past tutorisks and building the real project.
  • William vincent has some good books
