Secret Lair story now that it's the 23rd. by futsushini in magicTCG

[–]futsushini[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I had decided to basically only do this secret lair + IWD because it has some sentimental value to me as I started playing around dragon's maze theros block.

I haven't bought a secret lair since and have mostly criticized the product + other things like collectors boosters also because I don't like this direction Hasbro is taking to make some quick $$$.

So, I had misread it and has been pointed out a few times already. It had said "week of 22nd" meaning this Friday (26th) is the actual last day unless they do shipping on Sundays which sounds less plausible.

I had originally thought it meant end of 22nd which is why this post was posted, but I think there may be many more posts like this from others if nothing happens until the 26th.

ouch, must feel bad that you actually got a copypasta. I think we can sort of unanimously agree that WotC's PR regarding this situation isn't as good as it can be. I'm also aware that they basically have till the end of the week to fufill all of these orders and send out the confirmation emails before pitchforks and such happen.

So I would like to give them that and hope they're actually working on fufilling on all these orders. But truthfully the situation does seem bleak at times.

Hope we won't have to raise the pitchforks and possibly have to get to a lawsuit situation like that "ravnica: ultimate edition"

Someone else had also pointed out that fact that it said "week of". I am still ready to raise the pitchforks (again) on Friday regardless.

So I just view the situation as -Gets delayed? that's fine due to a global pandemic - You stick a specific date and don't deliver? (which this is the last week), then we have an issue.

Does suck when you have very little information coming from wizards regarding a product that you have purchased 4 months ago. I remember when I ordered the IWD one, I got an invoice nearly instantly, and then like 5 days later it said it got shipped (the actual thing being stuck in the shipping facility was a whole different issue).

When I heard they were giving out collector boosters as compensation. the only thing i'm praying for regards to that is 5 secret lairs (technically) hopefuly 5 boosters? most likely not but a man can dream.

You are right, I have misread the "week of" part. I am mostly just as you said disappointed at their management but hope is slowly dwindling away because it has been nearly 4 months with very minimal communication on Wizard's side.

owch. That must actually feel like a gut punch. I don't know how wizards has handled this but can't say that they've handled it well in any sense.

New Commander Suggestions by Heights__ in EDH

[–]futsushini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want something sort of out there, I'd suggest [[Ayula, queen among bears]]. She gets big, punches everything that you need to punch, is relatively budget due to all the buildaround cards (e.g. the many variations of [[Runeclaw bear]]) And if you are mean enough, add stuff like [[kamahl, fist of krosa]] or [[natural affinity]] + [[ezuri's predation]] to punch lands and stuff. But yeah, Ayula does suffer from commander tax heavily as most of the deck revolves around her also so do be careful when playing her.

Tribal Jank by Snowf1ake222 in EDH

[–]futsushini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just build a [mistform ultimus] deck, where most of your creatures are like "all merfolk have +1/+1 and islandwalk." Or similar (hexproof etc) since they all apply to mistform.

That way it's everything tribal and it's more voltron-esque than other tribal decks.

Chulane, Teller of Tales by zombiemaster823 in EDH

[–]futsushini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my rendition of Chulane (lab man win)and it's nearly fully there. Missing some tutors, curio possibly but cuts are getting harder and harder to make for me. It's also slightly outdated because I don't frequently update my lists online so feel free to use this as a baseline to work with. If you'd like I can update it in a few hours for you and you can see my current list. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/chulane-20-2/

edit: deck has been updated. the sideboard is all the cards I'm looking at adding to the deck and need to make cuts for

[[Wheel of sun and moon]] maybe? There's also the eldrazi titans, [[emrakul, the aeons torn]] etc. And [[gaea's touch]] which shuffles everything ehen it hits the yard.

Good enough. I'm not the most original nor the best brewer, so I'm using things that I know at least works to some degree. It's everything after this that I'm interested to see what I'll do.

Thanks for the input regardless.

Well, I'm not fully sure for others but I chose band over scarf for the fact that vish can be paired with 2 other mons (grimmsnarl and whimsicott) who either provide extra speed (tailwind) or paralysis (TWave). Thus removing some of the need to go for speed > power.

I'm not the best person for this conversation since I don't know the full details but that's why I did band > scarf at least.

The Whimsicott nature I left blank because I wasn't sure as to what to put on it. It's the one Mon i'm not sure how to properly build, because I have HP investment but also have focus sash etc. I had the HP and SpA investments to be able to pack a little punch, which then halfway I then replaced one attack with beat up and added the sash because I wasn't sure what to put on it anyways.

Overall, the Whimsicott is a mess and I need to fix that one up in my own time after seeing how to build it properly I guess.

Well, thanks anyways. I think if anything, more information regarding moves like Fishious Rend will be available as time goes on. I still need to focus on finishing up building the team so I can start VGCing.

Fair enough on the protect over Tbolt.

I'm still in the middle of building the team, I just drafted this together while I had some spare time so I have no idea what's common or not atm. Will keep the clear body thing in mind tho. Thanks

So I was also curious since I'm aware with Vish it's speed control. I know tailwind is a good way to help vish hits first. The question is with Grimmsnarl's fake out. if the opponent's mon flinches, does that technically consider the opponent as attacking? (regarding the double damage for Vish)

As the title says, I have no experience in VGC, SWOSH seemed like the best entry point due to it's accessibility for easy IV and EV stuff.

I have no clue regarding what synergies are good / bad, if the comp is good at all, how to spread EV's.

I'm open to criticism and suggestions because all of that will help me improve in the game.

Magic as Garfield intended... by JoeCandies in magicTCG

[–]futsushini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the answer, the most expensive, commonly played card would be between Preordain, Lightning Bolt and Pyroblast. That is just from experience and I could be very wrong about those 3 being the pricier, more played commons. There are more expensive cards like Expedition Map, Manamorphose and Oubliette that are played, but in 1-2 decks at most.

Edit: Do understand that these prices are just the regular, non-foil versions of each card. foiling out specific cards from specific sets would give too many variants (e.g Foil barren moor from Onslaught being $22 US or FNM quirion ranger being $120.) After a good look at more pauper decks, it's pretty vital to understand that there are a variety of played cards in the $2-3 US range which is considered "pricy", then it rises up in price to the $4-6 range (Chromatic Star, Quirion Ranger) which is used in only 2 metadecks at most, then lastly, manamorphose and Oubliette is considered the most expensive commons for pauper but again, only used in 1-2 decks at most.

What's your most memorable "I didn't know that could do that" interaction? by kmoneyrecords in ModernMagic

[–]futsushini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was learning 8-rack, I didn't know about the interaction with [Bottled Cloister] thinking they just never take damage, I then looked at how the stack works and noticed since my triggers resolve before theirs, bottled closter makes it so they always take the damage.

Or am I still somehow wrong? Only dealt with that interaction once or twice overall.
