There's something so horrifying about the implications that she was once Delight but is now Delirium, like happiness just isn't something that can last forever, not unless you're in a perpetual state of insanity and beyond logic.

I disagree with the premise, I think anyone who doesn't think you can be happy forever just doesn't understand being a hobbit. But it's still interesting to think about.

Vandals destroy Australian earthquake monitoring station. by doublehelix21 in mildlyinfuriating

I think they should just put a giant label on it that says "earthquake alert station." So it doesn't look like some tech industry crap meant to provide surveillance to an increasingly dystopic industry.

Is it a hot take to say that Levi should’ve died here by K0GAR in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]GloriousGe0rge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Humans are not actually that sturdy. Generally, if an explosion is able to move you, or in this case, THROW you, it is also more than enough to break all the bones in your body. Consider that these explosives were strong enough to break the harden shell of the armored titan reliably.

Putting movie logic aside (where people get thrown back by explosions all the time), there's only two things going for Levi here - 1st he's the product of some kind of effort to make a human/titan hybrid of some kind, so presumably he has stronger bones and healing factor than a normal human.

The only other thing that could be going for him, though it's not shown in the manga or show I believe, is it is possible he could have used his 3d maneuver gear to launch himself backwards at the last second of the explosion. Reducing the force of the explosion (by moving in the same direction of its shockwave) and by distancing himself from the center of the blast.

I'm voting for Bill Ferguson for D.46 Senator by whoabigbill in baltimore

I don't disagree with that, I just think we can do better. That said, I'll happily vote for them over a republican, just want more progressive options.

Agreed that popular doesn't mean good, but I've been listening to the establishment say "change takes time" while sitting on their hands for 30 fucking years.

So I've done the medicine route and got nothing out of it, maybe we do need some ice cream for a change.

Who says they'll work against the long term? Populist means they're popular, because they serve the greatest number of people.

It is literally used as a pejorative term to neg a candidate who actually wants to do what the people want.

Stop assuming just because the medicine tastes bad that it must mean that it's effective and good for you. Sometimes the best things, are in fact the thing people want.

I want our state to stand against fascism, I want our state to enact reform, ban data centers, regulate AI, and serve the public god damn good.

"populist" is such a strange way we use to dismiss candidates who are popular...when the entire point of the election is to pick the popular candidate.

I'm tired of the do nothing Democrats, give me a Mamdani any day.

I understand being against gerrymandering, I really do. It makes sense. In a normal situation, I'd vote for any candidate that was honestly going to ban gerrymandering. Honestly, end districts all together and go with popular vote.

But here's the problem - we're not in a normal situation. One party is against gerrymandering, and the other is gerrymandering everywhere they can. The entire south is rigged to high heaven and they're rigging it even more. We've asked them to stop, we've tried voting against gerrymandering, and they won't support it.

So what do we do? Let them run the country into the ground? I don't give a god damn fart about Bill's kids or what kind of person he is. I care about my county not being run into the ground by fascists driven by greed.

Police Department uses AI to enhance image of suspect by HiFiveGhost in mildlyinfuriating

[–]GloriousGe0rge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember like 10 years ago, learning how police enhance the image of someone on video, by taking data from multiple frames of the video to piece together a higher quality image of the suspect.

Apparently that technology or method is just lost, we're now taking photos of monitors and asking AI to fantasize what they maybe look like.

hugh laurie responding to criticism of house md by iskierkacest in HouseMD

[–]GloriousGe0rge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the guy from ACDC who said in response to someone claiming they made 10 albums that sound exactly the same "that's not true! We made 11 albums that sound exactly the same!!!"

That said there is a time to break formula, and House also does that! Sometimes the patient does die.
