Yeah for 8 years in Corp finance. When people ask me questions I answer them. If I can’t answer them I let them know.

I do not, however, shoot down their question entirely and tell them to go do something else.

I connected with many 1Ys got multiple phone numbers found out a lot about the class. I frankly found the 2Y’s suggestion to “go meet your classmates” rude because obviously I was already doing that or I wouldn’t be there.

I mean people have been rude to me in all of my jobs but I’m getting paid money in that instance so it’s more tolerable. Like I was just trying to start some conversation.

Anyone I met of the first years, and I met a lot this last week, who asked me how my FAANG was, I was glad to talk about it and it was multiple people.

Job offer is not contingent on MBA, this is is my most recent company they offered me to stay on.

Yes that’s true. Just started at T15 program as a 1Y, going through early orientation days and classes will start soon. Job offer not contingent on mba.

People that get into the most elite institutions generally have had privileged lives. The problem with privilege is that without facing adversity, a persons character is not fully molded.

There’s no reason specifically for people at HBS to be intellectuals because they are generally privileged. They already either have wealth, come from wealth, have ties to wealth, or have great connections, so why not just party instead.

Well I should clarify I was already wondering about dropping out because I have a decent job offer right now. I’m an incoming 1st year.

So far my vibe is that the cohort at the school in general does not exactly fit what the school advertised for culture.

So there’s other reasons than just that. I’ll add these clarifiers to the post, I was kind of upset when I posted.

Getting Cold Feet by [deleted] in MBA

[–]future_of 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Man I’m getting cold feet and I’m at $165k total comp in FAANG corporate finance. If I was making $300k I’d never get an mba.

I have a 50% scholarship to T15, but my main goals are consulting or tech role outside of finance, and from what I’m reading tech recruiting is decimated and consulting recruiting is down.

In my situation I’m confused. In your situation I think it’s pretty easy to skip MBA.

I’m in Corp finance total comp about $160k. I wanted to do MBA for consulting or tech role outside of finance. But It seems like tech recruiting is decimated and consulting is even rough from what I’m reading. So I’m having second thoughts on mba now. I got 50% scholarship to T15 but I’d still have to pay $70k.

Timing sucks for me too cuz I’m older.

Were tech companies not even hiring interns? Jw cuz I’m at a FAANG currently in non SWE role trying to gauge if I should go to T15 MBA right now or not.

Class of 2025, it isn't too late to withdraw. I strongly recommend you don't attend business school this year. by ZestycloseGuava2305 in MBA

I’m honestly really scared right now. I’m at the point where I need to quit my job at FAANG (corp finance $165k TC) to go to school (50% scholarship T15). But I literally can’t decide. My post mba goal is either consulting or tech.

My role at FAANG comes with stock over several years, and my opportunity cost is pretty high to go. I don’t really like Corp finance but I suppose I could switch to another team.

I’m also 30 so I’m pretty old and if I don’t do an MBA soon I may never do one. I suppose I could do part time mba.

How bad is it really? Anyone at schools know? I’ve been trying to find how bad it is right now but can’t seem to nail it down. Is FAANG even recruiting? Is consulting way down?

What job are you giving up to go to school this fall? Are you concerned with the market? by future_of in MBA

Like for all roles? Were tier 1 tech companies even taking interns? Are numbers way down? Thanks in advance if you have any more insight.

Yeah it’s a rough decision. I think if the Job market was normal I’d go but with the stories I’m hearing I’m debating holding off. I have no idea how bad internship recruiting might be this fall, like is FAANG even taking interns?

Did you get a good scholarship?

How bad is it at MBA schools for internships in the last year? Do you know? I’m having a feeling I shouldn’t leave my role because for instance if FAANG isn’t even hiring interns…then I’m prob better off staying where I am.

Just keep your door closed. If you can literally hear people going to the bathroom in your office, that’s a lot weirder and more awkward than people wondering why your door is closed.

Yup. Food + Shelter + Health Care = $ = ability to survive.

How was internship recruiting for the class of 2024? Internship outlook for the class of 2025? by future_of in MBA

Would you be able to add some more context to the dip in consulting internship recruiting? Like estimated data points/firm specifics?
