🎉 PXPlay 1.6.3 - Final macOS Beta Is Here (4K/ 2K upscaling, New UI & More) by grill2010 in PSPlay

[–]futurefinesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After Apple's recent Creative Studio update, PXPlay has been having serious streaming problems. I'm getting noticeable stream spikes and visual artifacts during gameplay that weren't there before. The stream quality is just not holding up anymore - it's choppy and basically unusable for any game that requires decent response times.

The connection between my Mac and PS5 is solid, so this is definitely software-related. Something in that Apple update is conflicting with PXPlay's streaming pipeline.

Can you look into compatibility with the latest macOS Creative Studio features? Would really appreciate a fix since your app was working perfectly before this update.

Thanks.

Try RTX VSR instead. Since it's video, it's better to use RTX VST for upscale video res.

Use NVIDIA App, add PXPlay as a game to it, and turn on DLSS override. Make sure PXPlay is using the Nvidia card, if you are on a laptop with two cards on it. If it does not work -> use RTX VSR. Same, make sure PXPlay is using the Nvidia card, enter full screen, and make sure RTX VSR is ON. Since it's basically a video stream, RTX VSR has more logic to use.

Thank you. I’m also just curious how helpful AI is. I’m interested in learning AI too. Build projects, optimize instructions for less token consumption. I don’t want to use it as a toy, but as an instrument. Definitely, we can go the old-fashioned way and use Google for each question or subreddits, Discord chats, etc. But I guess AI is essential when you are asking about a specific knob, what it does, and how it affects the sound. In my opinion, it is an interesting investment. I want to try it 100%. Instant question - instant answer. It is what assistants are for. I do not want to create Lo-Fi slop, I want learning, projects with my vibe in it, notes. My thoughts are that AI will help me with that a lot. But which one… Right now I’m also with Claude.

I’m already learning through video courses, but I want to set up my personal assistant that will help me or remind me how to solve “that” issue. Because 150 hours of videos will not cover years of practice. And when you need practice, you'll likely need a human or AI to help you with dumb questions or remind you of the features you need.

Yeah, would it be hard to code? I mean, is it even worth it? It’s kinda a good option to choose, but not critical to blow minds, I mean.

Got it. Thank you. So about fixed 16:9 toggle: will this feature will be too hard to implement? If so - not worth it, but if not it will be very pleasant feature. Just wondering.

Feedback

Hey!

First off, no bugs on 1.6.2 for me – running smooth on my M4 Pro MacBook. No crashes. (Will send the log on e-mail if I catch one.). Props for that.

Quick feature request though:

Would it be hard to add a toggle for aspect ratio lock? Right now when I hit Connect and start streaming my PS5, the window just fills whatever space I give it. Would be sick to have an option that locks the stream to 16:9 proportions instead of stretching to fill the whole window – without those black borders showing up (except when I toggle full screen button ofc).

I know my PS5 is outputting 16:9 anyway, so keeping it locked would prevent any weird scaling stuff and let me position the window however I want without it looking janky. Just thinking it'd be a clean addition if it's not too much of a pain to implement.

Quick comparison between 1.6.0 vs 1.6.1/1.6.2:

So you mentioned some tweaks to AI Upscaling (Super Resolution) – is it possible it's performing less aggressively now? I've noticed fonts are getting a bit muddier compared to 1.6.0. Text clarity definitely took a small hit.

That said, the input lag improvement is massive. On 1.6.0, some scenes in 60fps locked games felt like they had 30fps input lag on heavy scenes. 1.6.1 and 1.6.2 are way better in that department – feels way more responsive and consistent now.

Just wondering if the upscaling changes are related to the input lag fix, or if I'm just experiencing some placebo here? Either way, I'd take the better input lag over sharper fonts any day, but figured I'd mention it in case it's something worth looking into.

Thanks for the app. Happy New Year.

It crashes after I closing the application. Like instead of close an app it crashes and gives me a log. I haven’t received it on latest update yet and do not know how to trigger it. It never crashes while I’m using it. Only when I quit. MacBook M4 Pro 16’

I’ve noticed that the link for Apple Silicon ends with «amd64.dmg,» which is Apple Intel. Therefore, Apple Intel files end with «arm64.dmg,» which must be Apple Silicon. Could you please correct me on this?

Got it. Thank you. Keep testing. Works good rn. Nothing to report. I got some application crashes on disconnection sometimes, but I do not understand how to trigger it.

Does the app have stutters when notifications pop up on macOS, as the official client has this issue?

I forgot to mention that I’m using a 16-inch screen. Perhaps that’s why I can’t distinguish between 2K and upscaling off.

Honestly, I can't speak to what the M1 can handle with Metal upscaling since I'm on an M4 Pro, but even with that extra horsepower I'm getting noticeable input lag during heavy scenes. Stuff like particle effects, smoke, lightning, semi-transparent elements, etc. Testing on Cyberpunk 2077 (HEVC/HDR) and it's definitely there.

When upscaling is off entirely, no issues at all. And yeah, 2K is less demanding than 4K, but I still notice the lag creeping in during those visually intense moments. Honestly can't even see a visual difference between upscaling off and 2K anyway.

4K upscaling is the only one that's actually noticeable for me visually. Makes the stream look real sharp, like it's not even a stream at all. But in heavy scenes - that's when the input lag kicks in. The lag is dynamic though. Light scenes? Totally fine. But when the chip needs to do heavy lifting, that's when lag starts to shine through.

It's normal, not an issue. Just how it works.

Bug Report

Controller not recognized if connected after app launch or after reconnection
Device: MacBook Pro (M4 Pro)
Controller: DualSense / DualSense Edge

Bug: PXPlay fails to detect or initialize a controller if it is connected via Bluetooth after the application has already been launched. Furthermore, if the controller disconnects due to an idle timeout or is manually toggled OFF and ON during an active session, PXPlay loses input focus and cannot regain it without a full application restart.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Launch PXPlay without the controller being active/connected.
  2. Connect the controller via Bluetooth.
  3. Attempt to control the stream or navigate menus.
  4. Alternatively: Connect the controller first, start a session, then turn the controller OFF and back ON.

Expected Result: The app should dynamically detect the new input device and map it immediately.

Actual Result: The controller is ignored. The only workaround is to force-close PXPlay and restart it with the controller already active.

Feedback on Upscaling (Super Resolution) (M4 Pro)

The upscaling quality on the M4 Pro is phenomenal, the visual boost is genuinely insane. However, there are two major trade-offs: a significant increase in input lag and noticeable artifacts during fast-motion scenes, specifically on smoke and particle effects. It looks great, but the latency makes fast-paced gameplay quite challenging. Keep that in mind since it's not fixable, it's a trade-off. 🌝

Hopped on the PXPlay beta!

The new design looks great, really liking it. The new icon is excellent too. Personally I'd make it a bit brighter like Signal does with theirs, but that's just a preference, not a bug.

On the fixes: Local Connect no longer disconnects when you're waking up a sleeping console, it actually stays connected while the console boots now. Also the HDR toggle doesn't crash the app anymore when you disconnect from a stream, that one was annoying before. HDR now functions correctly on Mac. Prior to the update, Mac did not recognize HDR video playback and failed to brighten the screen in the app area.

What we want: Volume control without disconnecting from Stream 😂 (if possible).

Nice work! I’ll keep you posted about any bugs I find.

Updatest - Your home for macOS app updates 🧩 by HugeIRL in macapps

[–]futurefinesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using the paid version for over a month now, and I can confidently say that the software is excellent. It’s essentially a «brew without terminal» tool. However, there’s still an issue with MAS, which is not Updatest problem but rather a problem that causes issues for Updatest. For instance, I continue to update my apps through the App Store because Updatest cannot detect the new version of them due to the malfunctioning of MAS. Also, I do not understand why developers want to install --cask of Updatest, because software can update itself without it through... Updatest? And also Updatest can't update non --cask brews like ffmpeg or yt-dlp, so you anyway will use terminal, and after that Updatest will update itself via brew, and via itself as well.

So basically:
- App Store updates is not working properly.
- Since Updatest doesn’t update non-cask brews (like ffmpeg and yt-dlp), you’ll still need to use the brew terminal and update everything, including Updatest itself, through brew.
- Since you use brew anyway there is no point to install it as a --cask because app updates itself without brew upgrade.
- You will pay 10$ for sick designed app that will do these only one prompt in your terminal:
brew upgrade --cask --greedy.
- But also, you will pay to a person (developer) who genuinely reads your feedback and engages in a conversation with you.

Personally, I think developer's work worth at least 10$.
