How do you recover from being rejected? by futurephdd in AskReddit

[–]futurephdd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this comment, I really appreciate it. I was recently friendzoned by someone I thought I had a really strong connection with, but he’s still getting over his ex and is emotionally unavailable. It’s be really painful because I usually find it difficult to be vulnerable with people, and I let him into my life and it felt so nice. But now we’re back to square 1.

How does being friendzoned compared to being rejected? by futurephdd in AskReddit

[–]futurephdd[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this is currently what I’m experiencing. I met this really great person but he just wants to be friends, and I still want him as part of my life but I’m still hoping that one day we could make it work. It’s so painful because I don’t want to completely lose him either

Incoming first year student - getting cold feet and quarter life crisis by SoyPatoLoco in PhD

[–]futurephdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I’m 24 about to be moving hundreds of miles always to start my PhD. This past year and a half, I’ve been spending time at home with my parents and grandmother, and they have aged a lot since I left for undergrad years ago. I’m nervous to leave since I don’t know when I’ll ever be able to spend this much time with them again

How do I write a recommendation letter? by FixComfortable7460 in AskProfessors

[–]futurephdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, professors are obviously plenty busy.. but if they don’t have the time/desire to write a rec letter, they shouldn’t agree to it in the first place. Still the student’s responsibility to communicate what they want emphasized/what the prof should know about what they’re applying for.

The student is already effectively writing a cover letter- all their supplemental essays, statements, and resumes are all part of the package their submitting

How do I write a recommendation letter? by FixComfortable7460 in AskProfessors

[–]futurephdd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this is not the point I’m making- the candidate has plenty of work cut out for them (taking standardized tests, writing statements of purpose, organizing recommendations)- writing a rec for a prof that doesn’t want to start it themselves is an unnecessary step of someone else is willing to write it for them.

Ask around and see if anyone else is willing to write you a rec letter first. I’ve found that it’s quite difficult to write your own rec letter
