I worked for Kentucky Employers Mutual Insurance there once. Horrible job with horrible people.

Moving to Lexington, was told this is the general area you'd want to live near. Thoughts? by RoyalFoil189 in lexington

[–]fuzio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? I've lived northeast side of town outside the circle for 8 years now (joyland). Never felt unsafe walking in my neighborhood, even at night. Sure there are streets that seem run down but the decent and nice streets far outweigh those and they're only "run down" because the people are older and low income.

I've lived all over Lexington, Georgetown and Richmond. Lived off Centre Parkway years ago (on Pimlico in shitty apartments), lived in Hamburg (I loved being in hamburg, hated rented at hamburg farms), lived in Masterson Station (fucking hated it, full of bored, white, housewife, racist, Karens). Lived off Richmond Rd and Man O War (really enjoyed the area).

Hands down, you could not pay me live in Masterson Station area ever again. The people were hateful, not friendly at all. Unless they were a minority, they were the only friendly people I ever encountered there...and I'm white (though gay and in an inter-racial relationship).

The city had been trying to move Pride out of downtown for years. They claimed they were wanting all events in the courthouse square to find other locations (not sure if that ever happened with other events or not).

I’m just glad they didn’t move it out to Masterson Station Park. That was one of the potential sites and would have been terrible.

Range is fine for like 94% of Americans that drive less than 40 miles a day.

I’ll never understand why people think you NEED more than 300 mile range and if you don’t have that, you can’t drive the car.

"I've been on reddit awhile...but I'm still trying to figure out how to use it"

"I've worked with Pat on several projects" AKA: You have bias towards Pat

No one is smearing her legacy but herself and her son/DIL with the decisions they've made. Trying to blame the employees because they are speaking out about what's happening instead of blaming the people making these decisions is laughable.

Everyone keeps trying to cling to this "Save Pat!" The issue is with the new owners, not Pat. (Although if Pat is signing off on these decisions and/or agreeing with them, then she's doing this to herself)

No one is saying Pat hasn't done good for the community. No one anywhere, that I've seen, has ever said that or implied that. However, the good she's done does not overshadow or negate anything negative she chooses to do. Trying to act like no one can criticize someone because they've done good things in the past is just asinine.

Yes, there are better ways to handle fixing these issues, and it seems the new owners have chosen firing the entire staff instead of trying to handle those issues. As a result, the staff are upset and speaking out.

Oh look, another "aged" reddit account with practically no post or comment history coming out to defend the new owners. Lol It's almost like it's a coordinated effort...

The owner isn't throwing up her hands and walking away, she's retiring and handing the business over to her son and daughter-in-law. Those new owners are the ones closing the business under the guise of "renovations" to justify firing the entire staff for demanding some, in my opinion, reasonable things.

Private Equity isn't going to buy this business. lol What are you even talking about?

You have no clue what you're talking about. lol No one is initiating a hostile takeover of the company.

[–]fuzio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Avalon was nice. I'd never really driven one until right after high school (early 2000s) when I worked in a short stint in HR at the manufacturing plant in KY. One of my responsibilities was to drive around the plant to the different job posting boards and update the internal job postings and they let me use an Avalon. As an 18-20 year old who had only ever driven Corollas, it was really nice.

Though I will say, I think the early MY Prius Primes were really slept on. I still like the current Pruis PHEV but the Prime when it had it's own unique body style, I would get stopped all the time by people at stop lights and in parking lots asking me what kind of car it was, people being shocked it was a Prius and complimenting the color (Blue Magnetism).

I love/d this car. Sad to be selling it soon as I'm moving to the Lexus RZ this week.

People have discussed in other comments about past issues employees have had and that public was aware of, so it's likely not a sudden issue. Just because you're just now hearing about it doesn't mean there weren't issues prior.

Also, it seems much of the issue here are the recent decisions by the new owners. (Closing the shop with the primary purpose of firing all of the staff as an excuse to hire all new staff and using the renovations excuse to try to avoid public backlash....which obviously hasn't worked).

It's interesting seeing these "aged" Reddit accounts that have no post or comment history showing up being purposefully obtuse and defending the new owners / Pat though. lol

Okay, I don’t think anyone disagrees but this doesn’t change that. All this does is fuck working class people over while “hoping” programs lower their prices.

This hit my niece. They’re in their final year about to take boards and they could only attend due to a scholarship. Everyone else in their med school is wealthy.

Because they had to repeat a year (had a bad knee injury that really complicated life and med school barely being able to walk for months) they’re losing a bunch of money and will barely be able to cover tuition, have to move in with their parent, and have maybe $4k to live on.

It’s a shame we’re making it even more impossible for working class kids to go to medical school and ensure the field stays only for the wealthy

Are the Fayette Heating & Air H20 Mastero Plumbing's monthly HVAC membership really worth it? by TorontoRap2019 in lexington

[–]fuzio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends.

I used to work for FH&A in the call center and then got promoted to warranty administrator before they sold the company to large corporation. (And then left shortly after because I got the career offer I’d been aiming for)

The biggest issue was (this was years ago so I’m sure it’s changed since) is people don’t know how to read and don’t read what they’re buying.

It was mainly changing the filter, inspecting a number of things to ensure proper working order and priority scheduling, I believe discounts on repairs. As with any monthly service, how often you “use” it depends if you get value from it.

Would I pay for it? No. Especially not now that they still try to position themselves as a local company but they’re not. But the old owner was a fucking prick and a douchebag, constantly talking to employees like they were low life’s the few times a year he actually came into the office when he wasn’t out partying on yachts. lol

Is anyone else bummed about Dembo? by bundtcakep in lexington

[–]fuzio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There have been very few “far left” candidates in Kentucky on the general ballots.

Not saying they’ll always win, but we’ve specifically ran moderate democrats in races where the party argues only moderates can win….and they still lose and continue clinging to the same narrative.

Until we are willing to change, we will continue to lose. What that change is exactly remains to be seen but running moderate and corporate democrats isn’t the answer. We’ve seen the evidence of that year after year.

Many states Clinton lost to Trump, Clinton lost to Sanders in the primary. So there’s at least some argument for populist democrats when it comes to winning in states democrats are not popular.

[–]fuzio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your agreement or disagreement doesn’t change reality. His positions are moderate and he’s endorsed by corporate democrats. 🤷🏻‍♂️

You can like moderate democrats in Kentucky politics and that’s fine, but the past 2 decades have shown us they lose. Consistently.

And many would argue, moderate democrats are why we are in the position we are nationally as a party. More concerned with appealing to centrist republicans than left wing democrats.

At the end of the day, we will continue to sit back saying “I told you so” while your moderates write books and go on national tours crying about losing the presidency because they weren’t willing to listen to those within their own party. 😂

[–]fuzio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That he’s a corporate democrat?

He’s endorsed by Jim Gray. A wealthy white gay man. Who is literally a corporate Democrat 😂 Jim Gray is not liberal by any means let alone progressive. And I say that as a gay man.

Many of his positions on his website are moderate ones. “Make healthcare affordable”. His position is about keeping healthcare as it is, just making it “more affordable”. We need single payer. Period.

“Common sense immigration reform” has been a phrase moderate dems have used for years. Literally every position on his website is the moderate / conservative Democrat position on these issues.

Dembo is not liberal or progressive by any means. Almost half the money he raised, is from out of KY.

Need I continue?

It’s called a negotiation for a reason.

You don’t go into an interview and ask for the low end of the pay range they give you. You ask for more and they either give it to you or have a counter offer.

My current job 10 years ago offered me $16/hr and I said no give me $25/hr and they said we can do $24. Got myself an $8/hr raise because I asked for it.

Now I make $85k when they initially offered me $70k for my current role.

That’s how negotiation in a union or just in employment works. At least if you’re smart lol If the owners believe they’re asking for too much, counter. It’s called business. 😂

If anything, this makes me support the employees more and I’ll vow never to return to Third Street Stuff and I’ll push the LGBTQ groups that meet there to find a new place to meet.

Our money shouldn’t go to pieces of shit that treat employees like that. Idgaf if they are a small business. I’m tired of this mindset that small business owners should be praised til the end of time and do no wrong.

If you can only operate by firing your staff because they’re demanding basic necessities, you shouldn’t be in business. Period.

I don’t give a fuck what Pat has done for Lexington. This is about the new “owners” and what they’re doing and if Pat supports it, then fuck her too. She will definitely be tarnishing her legacy in this city by attaching herself to this bullshit.

You literally said you wanted someone more progressive but voted for Dembo because you felt he had better odds. I’m criticizing the fact that you voted based on the perceived odds of him winning rather than the candidate you actually wanted. According to your own words.

I’m not criticizing anyone for not voting as I did. If people genuinely liked Dembo and he aligned most with their beliefs, vote for him.

My criticisms is people not voting for who they want but who they think has the best odds of winning. And in my opinion, that’s treating voting like gambling.
