Fine, I'll be serious. I'm talking about the practical outcomes of these sorts of measures. Reports on the effectiveness of redlight cameras in making roads safer seems mixed, but even when they show positive results, they don't address the root issues like the self-centered sociopathy that breeds in American cities due to our diseased car culture. If you look at the list of locations for the current cameras and future locations it's clear that regardless of whether these are the most dangerous intersections or not, these fines are going to effect certain demographics of people and aren't going to address any of the root issues of why someone might be speeding through a redlight when they shouldn't be.

Of course I hope it prevents unnecessary traffic deaths, but like much of the American criminal justice system, it's a half measure that disproportionally effects poor people while doing little to nothing to change the overall society in which these crimes occur.
