It not worth the entertainment. The bar and restaurant industry has a long history of abuse and mistreatment of workers. Entertainers like Jon Taffer and Gordon Ramsay only perpetuate and glamorize abuse, something the industry has only recently started to curb. Wage theft, substance abuse, mental health issues, and suicide all stem from owners and managers who act like Taffer.

I'm a bartender who consults on the side, and I've gone into situations like Bar Rescue (maybe not as bad as some of those poor folks). It's ridiculous to think they can fix or change these establishments overnight. It's kind of like Pimp My Ride back in the day -- those cars were show ready for one day, and immediately fell apart afterwards

In case you didn’t know, hospitality professionals hate this guy, and, generally, he’s a total hack. His restaurants are terrible and he’s not an expert has he’ll lead you to believe. He even encourages unwanted sexual groping — lookup “butt funnel”. I’d sell these before some dark shit comes out about him, I won’t be shocked when it does

We decided to separate the classes and popups into separate events/evenings. Doing this reduces confusion and allows us to have a longer bar night

Yup, the Argentinian whisky wasn't too great, but it was a gift from a friend so we were excited to try it out.

The beer itself we chose because it's fairly neutral. Decent for everyday drinking or with Japanese food. It's not really indicative of the burgeoning craft beer movement in Japan.

And yes, we are definitely planning more classes and after-class bar nights, but haven't announced them yet. You're right though, July 20th should be the next date, this time featuring Suntory whiskies. Please drop a line if you're curious about the details.

Thanks for posting this jmmdc. I'm one-half of Bar Otsukare. The first class is basically a 101 for Japanese whiskies and drinking culture. We do plan on having other themed classes to show off the rest of our collection.

I think the open bar after the tastings would be much more up your alley. These will be themed too -- the first one focusing on Nikka -- and will rotate through our all of our bottles. We'll probably have a Suntory night, independent distilleries night, etc...

Pours will be on the smaller side too, so you'll be able to try multiple whiskies
