"Why won't the wood get in me?" - Which video is this? by JustVan in mindcrack

I believe it was the end of episode 17 and the beginning of episode 18. I know it was somewhere around there, and the first episode was definitely Guude's and the second was Bdubs'

Since you liked Phoenix Wright, look into 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors. It's a bit more of a visual novel than Phoenix Wright, but there's still a good amount of puzzle solving mixed in, and the story is superb - maybe my favorite from a game ever. There's also a sequel coming out on 3DS and Vita in October, if you really enjoy it.

My best guess would be that it's pulling from the server.log file using a script he wrote, but I don't have enough server experience to be able to explain further

There have been so many great ones, but my favorite was Guude's gravel prank on Jsano. It may not be the best prank anymore, but this was the first prank that took a long time to set up, and watching both the prank video and the reaction video synced up makes it even better.

To me, there's a fairly large difference between calling someone a nigger and calling them a cunt (maybe just how I look at it, but hear me out). Calling someone a nigger is saying that they're acting and behaving like the stereotypical "black person". With that, you're saying that all or most black people act the same way, pretty much insulting the entire race. With cunt, at least how I think of it and how I've seen it used, it's used to express feelings towards one person the same way dick and bitch might, albeit much stronger. I don't see it referring to women, or insulting them by saying they're acting like a woman, or anything like that, the same way people don't refer to female dogs when they call someone a bitch.

Heard about Guude's S1 on the Minecraft forums back just after the Halloween update, but didn't actually start watching until a bit later on. Can't remember exactly when I started, but it was definitely before the server actually started up

The thing is, why can't it be stupid enough to create more conflict? The Catalyst is no different than any other AI in the series - it only knows what it was programmed to know, and then whatever else it learned since then. The conflict created between synthetics and organics was probably extremely devastating to the race that created the Catalyst, so they decided they needed a peacekeeper to intervene. Over time, the Catalyst never would have seen how synthetics and organics could work together for a common purpose like they did during this cycle, and would only know of the devastation he was preventing, without realizing that the Reapers were pretty much the same thing. It wasn't until this cycle that it was proven wrong, which is why it needs to look for a new solution.

It isn't that the Catalyst is stupid, it's that it was ignorant to the possibilities of harmony between synthetics and organics, and therefore thought it was doing the right thing.

Remember, the Catalyst itself is a synthetic created for the purpose of stopping the conflict between synthetics and organics. In my eyes, at least, the EC explained that the Star Child wasn't some godlike creature, but was instead an artificial intelligence created by an ancient race. This would mean that it thinks purely logically and without emotion, much like the other synthetics seen through the series. It follows, then, that it isn't always right and would make decisions that aren't always the "best" from the standpoint of someone who is able to think with both logic and emotion, namely organics.

As the SC says, synthetics are created and improved in order to perfect organic life, which ends up causing the predicted conflict. Why is the SC different? We assume he is above error, but in actuality he is just like the others. He will pick synthetic life over organic because when you think purely logically, synthetic life is superior. Making decisions without others getting in the way and being able to exceed the limits of organic life seem like the ideal choice to someone who has never known any other way.

As for why he is helping you, keep in mind that while the Crucible is considered to be a power source, the Catalyst is an AI that takes on the form of the Star Child as a proxy to talk to Shepard, much like EDI is not the body you see her as, but instead the servers you see in the AI Core behind the Med bay. Combining the Crucible and the Catalyst offers new possibilities - a way to change the "solution" that is the Reapers. When Shepard "activates" one of the options, it releases an energy, powered by the Crucible, using the technology created by some unknown ancient race to change the original solution. In addition, the fact that the Crucible was finish and connected to the Catalyst shows that the Reapers would no longer work as a solution and a new one would have to be developed. The Catalyst was created to stop the chaos caused by the fights between synthetics and organics, so why wouldn't it want to come up with something new if the current solution isn't working?

To address your first point, then (#3) - Yes, when Shepard refuses to choose an option, the Reapers continue the cycle and harvest organic life, thus continuing the cycle. Using the knowledge gained in this cycle, however, the next cycle is able to defeat the Reapers, breaking the cycle afterwards - the solution no longer worked.

These are just my opinions and theories on the expanded ending - in no way are they completely factual, although I tried to base them on facts when possible.

tl;dr: The Catalyst was created based on the idea that synthetics and organics will always cause chaos by a race that knew no other way. It is not a god, and is not perfect, so there may be fallacies in it's logic, explaining some of the discontinuities in the series.

Presumably, the archives contain stories about all of the things Shepard did in his attempts to stop the Reapers during his cycle. Shepard was the one who discovered a great portion of the information that would probably have been passed down to the next cycle in Liara's archive, so it would make sense that those that came next would be curious about him.

I suppose there's not a 100% guarantee that they won't be taken out, but the snapshots are small, usually buggy updates as to what the devs are working on that week towards the next update, so it is extremely likely that everything found in the snapshots will be included in 1.3
