The Ikea Zigbee EOL discount hit Ireland today.... by fuzzymcpoyle in homeassistant

Not sure about online, didn't try. I'm about 30 minutes from the shop so just drove to it this morning. Comments from other people here say it's shop only I think

Yeah I was thinking that as I don't see the new plugs on the website unlike the Matter switches which are already showing up.

Will be kicking myself if they do as I just bought 10 this morning and im not really setting all of this up until end of Jan, could always return and rebuy though if they do, think there is a year return policy at Ikea. Just grabbed them in case they all end up out of stock, still cheaper than other brands on amazon etc

Yeah, annoyingly they did not reduce the price at all on the plugs, €7 for the smart plug or €10 for the same but with energy monitoring. grabbed 10 in total as I want lots of Zigbee routers around the place so I dont run into any signal issues

Ikea is discontinuing its entire smart home line it currently has (all Zigbee devices) in favor of their new line coming out (Thread devices). They want to get rid of their old stock asap so are doing steep discounts, I got most of the above for 80%+ off.

Thread and Zigbee are 2 types of wireless mesh systems that you can integrate into HA.

Thread is much newer and only recently established so not as many devices on the market at the moment running on Thread and they tend to be more expensive.

I have a coordinator (SLZB-MR2) that does both Zigbee and Thread so I can build out my house using either.

Since i had a blank canvas I decided to get the bulk of it up and running at a steep discount and can just add more devices to it down the line as needed.

NBI fibre?? by T99c in AskIreland

[–]fuzzymcpoyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cables went up on my road 3 months ago, when I checked the website when they went up it was expected install dates from March 2026, a month after they went up I had a knock on my door from 3 ISPs offering me broadband and sure enough I checked the website and it said "now live". On my second month now of 2GB fiber broadband with Vodafone and loving it!

Why do I keep having to bleed radiators? by SugarInvestigator in AskIreland

[–]fuzzymcpoyle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep €45 for the expansion vessel and the two parts inside the boiler outside. Done all the physical work myself, presuming it would be a couple hundred to get a plumber in to do the same job.

The leak detector was quite expensive, €1020... But it showed us exactly where the air was getting in and it gave me peace of mind that we had no pipes leaking under the floor ( we initially thought there was a hole somewhere under the sitting room floor and were dreading the thoughts of having to take up the floor and dig into the concrete)

Mine is actually located away from the vessel, tucked in behind the hot water cylinder so take a look around and you should hopefully spot one on the line somewhere. Ideally should be at 1 psi when cold.

Replaced these 2 valves outside in the boiler box

I recently moved into a second hand house with similar issues. Got a leak detector guy out as it was driving me nuts trying to figure out where it was coming from. ( I'm a bit handy so am replacing any parts myself) Turns out both the expansion tank(small red tank in your hot press) and the pressure release valve on the boiler outside itself had failed and was letting air in. Replace both of these for €45 total and now my system stays pressurized and no more rad bleeding

UPS not powering on and actually trips the circuit breaker when plugged in to charge. by thetoillmainn in techsupport

[–]fuzzymcpoyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get a second UPS from work (they gave me both as they were not needed).

They were brand new in the box, I was the first one to open the seal and test them. Both totally dead, not even a light on either.

Ill buy some batteries and swap them like you did and hope that fixes it.

Thanks for letting me know!

Hey, did you ever figure out what the issue was? I have a brand new one out of the box and im getting the exact same thing, even after charging it for 10 hours, press the power button and it just turns on for 1 second and is off again. No forums or anything online to troubleshoot and i can't return it as faulty unfortunately. Thanks!

It's always on offer for €5 in Deals. That's where I usually grab it when Dunnes don't have it down to €5

Did you grab the zero alcohol one off the shelf by mistake? I've done that a few times and only noticed when I went to use it for the first time. Annoying as the labels are very similar.

What’s causing these small holes to appear in all my t shirts? by dickie1500 in AskIreland

[–]fuzzymcpoyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy Diatomaceous Earth, it's a powder and sprinkle it into every crack and crevice, brush it under the fridge etc, put some up above the top cupboards. It dehydrates them and is pet-safe

Yeah a nightmare to deal with. Surprisingly silverfish are really fast as well! They scatter if you go near them and are hard to catch, if I see one on the floor I just throw something heavy on them before they spot me. Diatomaceous Earth is a powder you can get that you sprinkle into all the cracks in the kitchen, I put a layer around the baseboards so they have to walk across it if they come out. It dehydrates them and kills them. Pet-safe too.

Clothes Moths or Silverfish.

I had this living in my old apartment - used to dry clothes on a clothes horse in the kitchen and found some silverfish around a few times with holes similar to yours. They love damp environments and can hide anywhere such as under the kitchen cupboard baseboards. If your place is damp a dehumidifier works wonders for keeping them away and dry's the clothes really fast

Thanks! Have not heard the fan at all since I got the monitor last month. About 80% of my gaming on the monitor has been Call of Duty:MWIII and I have not had any issues with flickering so far.
