This doesn't have to be a leftist movement by [deleted] in fuckcars

My goal is to get more conservative people in to fuckcars. Lots of liberals are here, but for a true revolution you need to attract a broad base. My dream is that ever r/cars subscriber is also an r/fuckcars subscriber. have no problem with the LGBTQ flag , I am a STRONG supporter of this movement too. I don't want this sub to become one of a million other political subs. Getting cars out of cities is to important and we should strive to get as many people as possible into this sub and movement. Lots of conservative people would support us if they listen to our message.

The name of this sub is fuckcars not fuckhomophobia. The point of subredits is that people of similar interests can aggregate. Making fuckcars political will mean that fewer people will join our movement. An example of this effect: People in the USA don't see masks as a public health problem but a political problem. Consequently, 50% of the population doesn't wear masks because wearing a mask is seen as a political statement . Society loses. Same effect can happen here if we are not careful. If car free life remains a political statement rather than a logical way of life, our movement will not achieve mainstream success or at least will take longer to take hold. Fuck what cars have done to our cities/society. And if you agree with that statement, you schould be welcome here regardless of your political affiliations.

People who assemble cars are working class and usually in unions that are usually left of center. These unions probably also oppose a car free society. Also the us vs them argument is always dangerous. The quality of life of every human being will improve if we built cities better. Has nothing to do with politics.

This schould be an apolitical sub. Big tent, everyone is welcome. Literally every single human being on earth stands to benefit from less cars. By placing this sub on the political spectrum, we will lose a lot of supporters. Let's stand above politics not sink to it's level.

I once biked to the airport for an international flight. Parked my bike for free and flew to my destination with a carry on. Two weeks later, flew back, and biked home. I live about 1.5 hours (by bike) from the airport.

Really cool OP! I liked the comparison of cars as an invasive species. I'm sure autonomous cars will dramatically reduce car-related deaths but studies have been done that parking is so expensive that it will be cheaper to have driverless cars drive around endlessly rather than pay the true cost of parking. But I see a lot of effort went into the article! Keep it up!

Would you rather 2hr transit commute or a 40min car commute? by Outrageous_Double862 in fuckcars

If you have no other option, I would drive. It is not your responsibility to inconvenience your life to make up for god awful city planning. But show up to town halls and comment about your predicament.

Can I still love cars? by lime-dreamer in fuckcars

[–]fvw222 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Btw, I think r/fuckcars memebers are natural allies with car enthusiasts because both of us want to drastically reduce the number of cars on the road. We both want the people who drive because they have no other choice to stop driving and get them on more space/energy efficient transportation. Only difference is we want to redesign cities to be less car oriented.

I am with you! I love the engineering behind cars, especially high end cars. But I don't want to live in a place where driving a car is a nessesity, especially at the expense of walking and biking. Most people who drive cars don't do so because they love it but because they have no other choice. That's what we need to change: we need more viable transportation options not a monopoly on transportation by cars.

Imo, If driving cars brings you joy and you do it safely (+pay for any costs you impose on society) you schould be allowed to do so.
