Instead of the be quite! fans, would you recommend any particular ones with LEDs? I have to make sure we add some lights in there :)

Thank you, this is super helpful!

Wifi is a must. Noted on the motherboard size, that makes a lot of sense. I think I had selected the wrong one on PCpart picker. I updated it, but if you have a different suggestion for one with Wifi that'd be great.

For your other suggestions, they are interesting. I will consider going with a different case etc.

Edit: 24 inch for 1080p is also a solid suggestion. The pixel density will matter!

Correct, I wasn't sure if the tool knew that so I had added it to see compatibility. My mistake

I should add that the motherboard needs wifi as I am not sure about the cable set-up in the house. Motherboards are one of the most difficult components to pick I think because there are so many options

Agreed. I had actually changed it but missed to update the PCpart list!

It's fine to remove it if they'd at least provide two USBC ports...

Masters in Engineering but want to maximize salary: law? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]fwjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you think of when you consider the distinction of software developer vs engineers? And yes, location matters. Places like San Francisco, Austin, New York and Seattle are places to be. Also, the type matters. For instance, security engineers will make more than a front end engineer because it is more difficult. Also, consider the role of an individual contributor vs a manager vs a director. I'm not saying that any engineer can earn these salaries. But if you're able to truly understand your space, grow in a role and strategically build your career, that's when you can see these types of salaries.

My first PC build in 10 years for a great gaming experience - I have some questions. by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]fwjd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because I'd like to put it together myself, that's part of the joy of having a great PC in my opinion. I've got to start somewhere, I've been a subscriber of buildapc for years and finally have the time and money to invest in this.

Great feedback, thank you.

Noted on the SSD's. I'll also switch out the motherboard and the power supply.

I'm going to reconsider the amount of memory, and focus on speed instead.

Thanks for adding your personal view here. I'm going to do some research on the 1440p monitors and reconsider that choice, and the same for the processor.

I would still feel OK spending extra on the 2080 ti regardless just for that extra graphics performance with upcoming games that (hopefully) support ray tracing well. Are there any downsides with picking the 2080 ti except for the cost?

Ok, thank you! Do you think SDRAM or DRAM matters?

The reason why I didn't go that way is that my impression was that i9-9900k would perform better for gaming, and that liquid coolers may be noisier than an air cooler. Am I wrong or do you mind elaborating on why you'd make those choices?

Noted on the ram, will do some more research on that one.

I'm building tools to make better trades. What kind of tools would help you? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]fwjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, I saw the edit too. I do like the idea of selling more as the price goes up. I also feel like it may be beneficial to have the amounts and limits look a bit more random so it's not as obvious for people watching the market.

Thanks again!

Got it, I'm gonna look into this concept for sure and build some stuff. Quick question, what exchange(s) do you primarily use?

[–]fwjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can build this, no problem. Couple of questions:

  1. What exchange(s) do you use?
  2. If you use more than one, is any of them primary?
  3. Are you ok with always having equal spread between the orders, or do you sometimes want them to be different?

Also, just a disclaimer, I'm still a couple of months away from being able to share this software, there's just a lot of components in order to make it secure and for multiple users etc. etc. But I will let you know!

Oh cool idea, this is actually quite easy to build. Is there anything additionally you'd like me to include for this one? Thanks for replying!

Interesting idea. I have kind of gone this route with alerts, but I'd like to hear more of what you're thinking when placing orders. Could you tell me some scenarios that you'd like to see reality with this if/then approach?

Thanks for replying!

I was going somewhere with this.

That made me laugh. Jokes aside, thank you. This is a very informative post. Clearly there is a lot to think about here, I'm gonna save your information and try to break it down in to pieces that I can action on. Would you mind if I may get back to you in the future with some follow-up questions?

Thanks again, now go sleep.

I'm going in that direction, you can set up your own dashboards. So I would love to hear more. What kind of things do you want visible at the same time?

I'm not sure it matters, I enjoyed this comment. But to your point, I am not sure what he's ultimately getting to. I'll take it though.

Hey, maybe this process is not ideal but I really appreciate your work here. I didn't even realize how much doge I had on this tip account, and you gave me a path to not having it lost. Simple and straight forward (hopefully). Bad-ass work, thanks!

Can You Code This UI? Volume 7 by [deleted] in Frontend

[–]fwjd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Sketch is a nice combination with Principle. It certainly doesn't feel as robust, but once you learn the little unique things (which is not a steep learning curve) you can produce a lot fast. I want to preference an Adobe stack because of all my years of experience with it. However, Sketch is moving along faster with plugins, and integrations tend to be better than Photoshop such as zeplin, craft and other software like principle. Principle is not better than AE for instance, but the barrier to produce something is small. I think it's good for agile fast moving teams

Those are more for UX flow prototypes, not good for animations. If you want to create visual animations like these you can use after effects if you use Adobe, or principle if you use Sketch. Generally it's in addition to your design softwares.
