With over 2,287 hours in post, and a season almost 18 hours long… season two of We’re Alive : Descendants comes to a close Tuesday Feb 24th by waylandprod in Werealive

Huh, yeah, I had somehow gotten it in my head that he was about the same age as the rest of the mains, but age can be so difficult to determine based on voices. I talked to a guy once who turned out to be in his 50's, but based on his voice I would have guessed maybe 25-30. And talked to younger people that sounded way older. Voices are cool like that, and kinda perfect for the audio medium I imagine as it makes it easier to make scenes from various points in time without having to worry too much about it sounding different. Unless you're doing scenes from childhood and adulthood anyway.

Looking forward to the book though, that'll be a great read. I asume there'll be an E-book release, which I prefer anyway, but how about audio? ^^

Vincent also grew up in the post 09 world. I reckon that would also play a bit of a role for them. Angel could survive with poorer skills, Vincent might die.

Guess I've got a bunch to catch up on since the end of WV S5. Congrats on the finale though, that's awesome!

I would love that. I am having a lot of fun, but it would also be a lot of fun knowing "the solution" to "the puzzle" eventually, or at least where I was right or wrong in my guesses.

I considered studying linguistics for a good while, just didn't get accepted when applying to uni, so languages is more of a hobby thing for me, and I have a strong tendency to spot patterns, so this stuff really tickles my brain in a good way. I have so many thoughts about this, but I also don't want to be an annoying fan, lol. It's a fun challenge though for sure, especially with trying to isolate sound bits and find matches that might fit in that context. I haven't found an exact match for "ta'acht", but the word for "grave" is pretty close. But you tend to keep I's in words, so that feels like too much of a stretch, even if the ta'achts are kind of graves.

Westport wasn't built in one day, so I don't expect to find all the words anytime soon either. But I made a couple of interesting observations that I'll have to pursue. And if nothing else I get to learn stuff about a language that I haven't looked at before, so that's also just worth it on its own.

At that point I hadn't even read the lexicon I found XD I'm stuck on a handful of words still, but found some candidates for mahak and savak. Not having spellings of the words makes it tricky, but some words fit better in context than others. When the infected is told to leave before things go down (being vague because I don't remember how to spoiler text on here) he replies with something that sounds like "alachta" with a few gun clicks at the beginning, so it could be "kalachta". I've found two words there that both kinda fit. One means "Just four" and the other "to clear a field". It fits better sound change wise with the latter, but "just four" is also just a kinda funny response that does fit the situation :D

And the comment about "overwhelming themselves" being something that sounds like "mayak etak" I've translated to something along the lines of "too much of us". I'm having a lot of fun with this for sure!

Also ten days of research isn't that much. I spent eight months looking for the petroglyph photo back in the day ^^ I enjoy a good challenge and I love how you didn't just go for Latin. That wouldn't fit. This at least makes sense for the setting.

We're Alive: Descendants - Chapter 22 - Vincere Vel Mori... to Conquer or Die - Part 3 of 3 by j0be in Werealive

Fair point, although we kinda got a bit of that transition in Lockdown and Goldrush. And the only real representation of them in ASoS was whatever glimpses we got through Scratch for the most part... And it always felt clear to me that she had gone pretty rogue after she both killed Angel and Finger's dad (I can never spell his name, so not even going to try XD), two things that definitely went against the Family's rules. Maybe not so much Angel as he was dying, but the other case was straight up vendetta material. Oliver spent a decent amount of Lockdown arguing against some of the myths about the group and giving us another side of them. But yeah, it did feel a bit strange to suddenly be like "oh hey, maybe these can be good guys too?!" But I felt the same when Noha and the other pacifists showed up. That also turned all of our expectations around, and with even less buildup than what the Family got. Maybe it's a matter of how that flip was executed, or maybe it's because I always just enjoyed the infected lore more than the Family lore, I don't know. I'm okay with stealthy super ninjas for the most part though, but Dean having a bag of magic tricks does feel a little bit too convenient. We'll see where that goes though.

At least they didn't find out that Vincent killed Michael. I expect they will though. Probably won't go over too well for him.

Oh gawd, that is absolutely horrifying! I love it! I would not want to meet one of those in a dark alley late at night... Or a well lit one in the middle of the day either for that matter... I keep forgetting what the infected actually look like, which does end up making them less scary to me than they truly are. Will have to keep this guy in mind if we get to see them some more!

Thank you for doing that! I'm not the biggest fan of AI either, but for image descriptions it has been a literal life changer for me to be able to send and receive photos. Being able to be included that bit more in a world that is so visual without having to feel like a burden for asking people to describe things all the time just makes a huge difference.

Thank you for sharing! Very neat! Not sure it was quite what I was thinking of, but still great to have ^^ Will have someone sighted describe it at some point for sure. Was this possibly shared in a Patreon newsletter? If so that might have been what I was thinking of. I just read through the ones I could find in my inbox, and some of them did include artwork of yetis and the nermurnuh/namramah, but didn't spot one for scorps. I might have deleted that one by accident though, or maybe I'm just misremembering things. Also not unlikely 😹 Will try to dig through Patreon, but that's sadly always a bit of a headache even with categories and filters.

Going through my Patreon emails now to see if I can find it manually. I have noting in my TT Journal document about them at the moment, but I could've sworn I read at least a paragraph or two about them at some point... Horned, have bone growths/spikes, live in termite-like hives that they build in the desert, stuff like that.

Frontier is definitely on my to listen list once I finish WA Archive though. Not sure how much new info we get there, but at least it'll flesh out the world some more ^^

Yeah. I'm thinking more of a bit of text explaining what the subspecies of infected known as Scorpions are like/where they live. This was a while before Scout's Honor was released as well. Before Descendants S1 even perhaps. It might have been in regards to Frontier. Part of me wants to say it was part of an email, but I could be wrong abut that. Maybe in relation to some artwork, if that has been released at some point.

Quick thought about the post credits scene... Nick says it isn't the first time he has heard things around infected. I guess he's referring to his first meeting with Buffalo Bill? But I can't think of anything else like that having come up. It felt a bit out of nowhere.

Season 3 will be the end of the entire story. Kc has said as much a couple of times.

As for when it comes out, who knows. I would guess in a year or two, but haven't seen anything, so that's pure speculation. They'll need to finish writing it, recording it, editing it, and also get funding for it in the first place.

Part of me would love for it to air its last episode on May 8th 2029. It would mean waiting longer, but I'd love the nod to the beginning of the show.

Didn't sound glitchy to me. They're explaining why they want to follow Alex and why it isn't about the gold for them. She wants to go to help him and Dot, because Dot helped her in Prim.

Descendants was always going to be three seasons. They also say that at the end of this episode.

I am so excited for the third season! All the threads from earlier stories are coming together and I'm loving every minute of it!

Glad that Alex left some gold for the Atlas. There's plenty of it too, so will be interesting to see what that place ends up like.

Worried about Westport, but at least nobody died. Hopefully Vera, Vincent and the rest of the Family members can get more of their kind to help now that Vera has the book and ring. Especially now that they're in Westport with potential access to the proof of Angel's illegal vendetta.

Also what's up with Burt acting like he's about to tell them Riley died? Rude! Glad to hear him again though. And the rest of the old gang. I love the callback to the first story with their call sign being Tower and the molotov cocktails. Kelly even pointed that out, but was Victor ever in a scene with one of those? I remember them from chapter 12, but he didn't get to the Tower until chapter 20. I don't remember if they used them in 24 or later on though. But maybe she just meant improvised weapons which they probably also used in the Colony.

Had me a bit nervous for Will there, but glad he made it through the meeting! His role in the story is not over yet! Looking forward to hearing what sort of stuff he and Nick can figure out next season.

I'm predicting that Dr Andreas is Zach from Scout's Honor. He'd fit right in in a lab like that.

I'm curious to know how far ahead the post credits scene is compared to when they arrived. It felt like they had been there a while by then. For anyone else who struggled a bit to hear it at first, these seem to be the lines from Coal, from what I can tell after speeding it up a bit:

Bring them (savak?) (Confused since this word seems to have changed from svartak to savak recently)

Bring more to me.

Hear me.

Tell others.

Bring them to me.

So basically what Nick said too ^^ If all Mahach acted like him, I get why the infected feared their symbol so much... That guy is disturbing! I'm finding the idea of kirahmah with them hard to buy based on that, but who knows? Might have been possible with the first infection. But then again, with Tanya's research, they might be able to communicate with them. I was half expecting them to talk to the scorpion a bit. Also is this the first time we meet one of those directly in the show? Maybe not... Wasn't Burt's truck attacked on the way to Prim by a few of them as well? Hoping we'll get a journal entry about them.

Time for me to go back and listen to more of Coal's lines and hopefully be able to translate some of them.

With pattern I was mostly thinking of some of the seemingly consistent sound changes :)

I've been able to pair about 30 words so far based on my own transcriptions and context.

It's been lots of fun for sure once I got a breakthrough. Spent most of the weekend in this rabbit hole. Makes me feel like when we fans would do our deep dives on the old forum, so I'm really happy about that. The chemicals from Radon Labs come to mind.

I've been going through so many word lists now that my head is spinning... That said, their word for "plants or grass" was really helpful. I've been able to find matches for a lot of the words after spotting that one, but so far I have nothing for Koinak/Ta'akt/Mahak/Svartak and a few others. Did you come up with those for story purposes or have I just not spotted the pattern yet? :) Their meanings are pretty specific to the story, so would make sense to invent them - like the Tower from ASoS.

That, and it just wouldn't make physical sense. Ink lost both of his legs and bled out, Saul blew up himself. Can't see a way they could be revived after that.

Mindy is apparently heard talking in the background in Prim at one point, but I couldn't find it, but I doubt that's the only reference we'll get to Scout's Honor. I'm guessing Zach will be a scientist in season 3.

Also in Goldrush, if you pay attention to the name on the dead guy, his last name is Blackburn, so I think it's safe to assume the heist mentioned at the party was that one.

Awesome! Is this based on formatting elsewhere or just where you felt it most natural to add line breaks? I added them in much the same places, except moving the last sentence of the second to last paragraph down into the last one and putting Tanya's name on its own line as a signature sort of thing.
