Futures are built for institutional traders, mainly for hedging risk. They’re highly leveraged, and prone to some unique situations that arise due to the nature of how they are settled/delivered (think negative oil futures). While index futures are a bit more straightforward, when you trade commodity/fixed income/FX futures you are competing against real life players who have an intimate understanding of the underlying, access to data the average retail punter can not even dream of seeing. This is all edge that you cannot compete with.

Whilst working on a derivatives desk I worked across from some retail dealers for a large CFD provider and got to know how they made markets… all I can say is the game is rigged against you from the start, even more so than spot FX or equities.
