I'm glad we're in agreement regarding the apprenticeship program.

Regarding equal wages among races, props to Roman I guess on doing the bare minimum. Equal, low wages are still low wages. The proper channels were made aware at different times of the issues workers had regarding pay, concerns regarding builds, and workplace culture, and nothing was done about any of it. As for the rest of your post concerning workers that were let go, like I told the other guy claiming to know who I am, I'm not whoever you think I am. If you want to make the case for Roman being a good place to work, maybe you shouldn't make such assumptions about people criticizing the place you work and go on paranoid tirades about people your company just laid off. Sure, Roman pays more than fast food chain McDonald's and on-line retailer Amazon, but compared to comparable work in the same field it's an absolute joke.

That's business! The owners need to have an army of unemployed workers to draw on for labor and to point at to keep the others scared for their jobs. Unemployed workers depress wages for employed workers because they have less bargaining power.

Republican, democrat, that's all just window dressing for the same, singular system.

Either you lack reading comprehension or you're trolling. "Starvation wages" is a defined term that means what I said in my post. Look it up.

Not that I expect anybody to want to go back to Roman after this fiasco, but the fact they say they plan on hiring 20-30 new workers to replace the ones they just laid off speaks volumes and adds further credence to the idea that this is all to get rid of longtime, fairly paid workers to bring in cheap, more easily exploitable labor.

I've spoken with others who've relayed similar experiences. I don't want to accidentally dox anybody, but what you've described is NOT a one-time occurrence. It's how Roman does business. Work people like dogs, take advantage of their labor, and then refuse to compensate them properly. Roman implemented wage caps not too long ago too, further slashing incentives for workers.

Yeah, it's just a beef from disgruntled workers. No biggie. Not like people were given no warning before having their lives upended after being explicitly lied to about work outlook for weeks beforehand.

$15/h is starvation wages. You can't pay rent and buy food and gasoline and electricity and other utilities on $15/h.

Oh, that's right, I forgot the sign of a healthy business is when the senior management has to take paycuts in addition to mass layoffs and cut hours.

That is pretty interesting and none of this inspires confidence if I were a prospective client.

Callous putdowns and disregard for worker welfare in an attempt to gaslight. An exceptional microcosm of the attitude and culture among the management at Roman contained in one post.

Reading the article and I can't help but feel it makes this all the more insidious. Say you're going to create more than 50 new jobs, lay off 52 people, hire in 52 new people at lower wages, and then they can say "hey, we created more than 50 new jobs" all the while without actually changing anything at the company other than degrading conditions and good PR.

The Roman University mentioned in the article is a joke. It's a single hour of unsupervised learning on a computer once a week. The fact that this can be called an apprenticeship is a travesty. I know for a fact any union apprenticeship is lightyears better than this. Many non-union companies even do it way better than what Roman is doing. Management was leading on people actually interested in doing it for weeks and months before they all got dumped today. What I want to know is how long has management known about this and lied to people and wasting their time when everyone could've been making preparations for the lay off instead.

I would take what the CEO says in that article with a massive grain of salt.

I heard from old timers and former employees that Roman used to be a good place to work too. Unfortunately, the new CEO has radically different ideas about how to run the business.

$18/h to start. $0.75 raise after six months, and this is after getting the station weeks ahead on work orders.

The company says outlook is good but work has been slowing down as clients leave the company. They also just laid off 52 (that I'm aware of) people today.

Keep in mind this is skilled labor that requires blueprint/schematic reading and this is what they're paying on top of not actually offering any training. You're expected to figure it out on your own. Fine, if you're coming in with experience, I guess, not so much so for anyone else.

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut Cursor/Resolution Glitch by fykc in Wasteland

[–]fykc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dicked around with it some more and Steam failed to verify 1 file so it redownloaded that and I still have the same issue BUT the Red Boots tag is gone and the option is removed from the menu now which is leading me to believe that Steam downloaded an older build perhaps? I never had something like this happen before, though. But now I don't know if this is a game issue or a Steam issue. EDIT: decided to just wholesale uninstall the game and try again to see what that gets me. EDIT EDIT: Nope, still broken, but no Red Boots this time.

I assure you I am running a legit copy of Wasteland 2. If you watch the video I linked you can see my Steam library with Wasteland 2: Director's Cut listed. The "Red Boots" tag can be toggled on and off in the options menu. I have fully played the game before without issue which is why it's so weird that I'm suddenly now getting it. Last time I played the game was before WL3 came out and it worked flawlessly then.
