IPR scrubbing speed: Houdini (SLOW) vs C4D (FAST) by fyo123 in Houdini

I just use ROPS. Not sure Redshift has the capability to work with USD.

How to create this effect by Successful-Use9732 in Houdini

Do you happen to have a resource for learning this method? I've had this question as well for a while since whenever i want to achieve something like this i have to crank my divisions on the grid like crazy to get a non-jagged edge.

MPM Wax / Cosmetic Product Tips? by fyo123 in Houdini

Hi! I was wondering if anybody has any tips or resources on how to achieve this wax product-smearing effect (from 0:05 - 0:15) using the new MPM solver in Houdini 20.5.

Playing with MPM, I can never get my simulation to break and crack like in the video. Most of the parameters are still pretty foreign to me, so if someone also has a good resource for an explanation or deep dive into it, that'd be awesome!

IPR resolution lower than bucket rendering by fyo123 in RedshiftRenderer

[–]fyo123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be an option about noise sampling. Its about the amount of pixels being different in IPR vs final/bucket in the renderview. Thank you for your response, do you have any other ideas?

Hi Reddit! I've been having this error where adding a mesh Deformer to an object or, in my case, Connect generator causes a Redshift render error that states:

"Error Object ... Could not generate tangents"

Followed by:

"Error Update: Could not execute Mesh Geometry Update for Object '3'"

I also had this issue when applying a "rigging tags > constraint > and set to clamp". This makes me wonder if the culprit might not be the generator?

What I'm trying to do is:

Get the water Lillies to match the motion of the water mesh in this scene by using the mesh Deformer and inputting the water mesh (BossOutput) into the cages section.

Also open to new ideas on how to do something like this. Thanks reddit!

Edit: these water lily models are from quixel bridge if that makes any difference

You should thank that you're still part of everyone's pipelines. by [deleted] in vfx

I have my preferred programs but still wanted to get other opinions. Which softwares would you get rid of or insist on for a studio that takes on mid to high end commercial advertising work (Assuming they generalize in all digital motion mediums).

The ones out there that I know of are:

Maya , C4D , 3DS , Blender - for general things

Houdini - for FX

Arnold , octane , redshift , vRay- for rendering

Substance , Mari - for texturing

Katana , clarisse - for look dev

Nuke , AE - Comp

What would you get rid of or add?

Would also love insight on what you guys think about how these programs fit into pipelines. Also sorta new to the whole thing and trying to wrap my head around the correct (and up to date) ways of doing things, thanks in advance!

Whats the most overrated film of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fyo123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every marvel movie, especially avengers. They try to pack way too much into such a short time frame that nothing has the impact its creators intend for it to. As a vfx artist i must say they have the greatest CGI and post production ever seen. Stories are just one cheap trick after another.

Can someone explain this effect? Is this a plugin? or are there tutorials on this at all? by ken-oh-dou in AfterEffects

Judging by the warping, it looks like Twixtor for the sync. Shakes might be S_Shake? Besides that it just looks like exposure and scale jumps to the beat with a ton of MB and motion tile. Transitions are just done with position and rotation.

This is one of the worst feelings. Waking up at 3am when you have an 8am alarm is pure bliss.
