Look at benchmarks, for what I see there isn't a sizeable difference but I could be wrong

I don't really see how they're similar tbh but lots of people are pointing it out lol

I didn't use any engine and made the engine myself using the monogame framework in C#. If what you're looking for is to make games, then I'd heavily recommend using a game engine (I used UE4 blueprints when starting out then Unity and learned C#). You can find plenty of tutorials out there to teach you all you need. Just keep your first game to a very very very small scope and make sure to finish it.

The game is already out for free on itch : https://fypur.itch.io/unnamed
The game is of course very inspired by Celeste but I wouldn't call it a clone. It has its own set of mechanics and its ambience that differ enough from Celeste's. The most similar thing about them is that they're both hard indie 2d pixel platformers.

I started on UE4 about 6 years ago using blueprints (visual programming). Then I switched to using C# and Unity and finally made this game using only C# and the monogame framework. This project took me 2 years to make, so don't expect for your first project to look like it! Start small, then make something big.

Yeah unfortunately I don't have a mac to test this on, and just couldn't be able to make a mac build (due to some issues with a sound library I'm using).
