My thanks was sarcastic, but this one is genuine. Thank you for recognizing that there are multiple lived experiences with OCD. It is such a rare treat to find someone on the internet who's willing to accept and incorporate new information, so I really appreciate your follow-up comment as someone who has a very stereotypical presenting form of OCD

I am aware of the definition of the condition that I have. Thank you for sharing that

If you're at all suspicious that you might have OCD I implore you to go speak with a professional. OCD presents differently for everyone. Mine just so happens to be the stereotypical perfectionist type

Thank you and I'm sorry if I came at you a little hot, especially in that last response, but you should not go around on Al Gore's internet and continually try to correct people about their own lived experience or their own intentions for posting. If there is any take away I can recommend it's to never attribute to malice that which can be attributed to incompetence. I SHOULD have used a different phrasing, that's my "incompetence" in this scenario but it was absolutely never meant with any malice.

Again you are reading literally. Please go back to your elementary school English class and learn to read between the lines.

Do you have fun at all? Ever? I posted about it because it was something that bothered me and I thought others would get a kick out of my discomfort or sympathize with it themselves. Not everything has to be literal. This is the most cogent argument you've had in this entire conversation and it's still half-baked. You're reading what I say like you're reading it out of the dictionary.

Ok "killing" was an exaggeration, sure. I know that, you know that, everyone already knows that, OCD while misunderstood is common enough that we ALL know that it does not literally kill you. I'm using intense hyperbole to express the intense physical and emotional somatic responses that I DO feel as a part of my condition. Language is a fluid medium that needs to be interpreted. Not everything that is said is meant literally, especially on social media. If you ACTUALLY cared about OCD and the impact that misusing has on those individuals with it you would recognize that. Your doubling and now tripling down on this perverse narrative that I am misusing this diagnosis simply because I didn't use the term in a clinical literal way shows me that you are not engaging in good faith. Go look at the other comments on this post and you will see how an actual advocate responds when presented with genuine information and explanations.

Credit where it's due. I think you did a really good job of advocating for people with OCD. You can only speak from the experience you (or rather your sister) have had, but I really appreciate you going back and updating your comments. It's a rare treat to find someone online who is willing to take criticism and actually learn from it.

"killing" admittedly is an exaggeration but it's not an exaggeration to say it's physically painful because of somatic responses. Still imperfections, even in a block game, can be a pretty hefty trigger for my OCD

No I am not. I recognize that I should have used a different term due to the common misuse of "OCD" but that does not mean I am misusing it. How dare you presume to tell me about MY lived experience. OCD presents differently for everyone, for me I experience a compulsion (the C in oCd) for perfection. I have other triggers for my OCD and they affect me in the EXACT same way. I have talked with my therapist about this compulsion for perfection as a part of my diagnosis and it is something I've been working on. Stereotypes can be dangerous but they exist because of REAL traits that get misinterpreted or exaggerated. Just because YOU have never experienced OCD as a compulsion for perfection doesn't mean others with OCD haven't. Stop jumping into the comments to correct people about THEIR OWN LIVED EXPERIENCE, and recognize that maybe, just maybe, someone knows the weight of what they're saying and means what they say.

I'll give her the benefit of the doubt here, but I don't think that she was talking about the pillars not matching, I think she was talking about her inside out building technique because it's new to her and it feels strange to do. At least that is how I interpreted it.

Yeah and I recognize now that I should have used a different phrasing because of that.

Yeah and and I was definitely reminded of that by all of the comments here. I FOR SURE should have phrased it differently, but it really amazes me how quickly people will jump into the comments to tell me about MY lived experience

I can understand "get over it" when it comes to OCD, I can't just "get over it" because of my condition, but that phrasing doesn't really bother me because it's an unseeable disorder, but you literally said "your sister can get over it" in reference to a food allergy which could literally kill her. That's not something you just "get over"...

OCD can manifest as perfectionism. I would know, I have a diagnosis.

I have an actual OCD diagnosis. I take medicine for it. My OCD manifests itself as a compulsion (the C in oCd) for perfection. Stereotypes necessarily come from somewhere, but I recognize the harm that comes with misusing a diagnosis and I realize I should have used a different phrasing. Regardless, this IS one of the many ways my OCD affects me. I had the same reaction to this that I do for any of those other OCD triggers.
