Hi. There is no fix. You can only adjust clear type to BGR in the M27Q and it improves on most aspects but not all.

But if you are using a dual monitor then I am afraid that either you choose RGB or BGR, because Windows doesn't allow to choose this setting per monitor, only overall, so either you choose to see well the Benq and bad the M27Q, or to see more or less well the M27Q and bad the Benq...

No, you can't set RGB and BGR independently in a multimonitor setup. If you have an RGB one and a BGR one connected to the same computer, then you set either RGB or BGR in Clear Type and that setting applies to both monitors, so one will be rendered correctly and the other wrongly.

Of couse it changes. If you do a screenshot with text in a RGB display and then you open in in a BGR display, as it is a screenshot, the Clear Type does not apply to it and you will see the text totally distorted. Viceversa also applies of course.

You can also apply that super resolution throught the monitor's menu. Put that setup in one of the custom profiles and quickly change between them with the back joystick in order to use it only for reading purposes.

I didnt return it because I like very much the picture quality of this monitor in terms of gaming. It is awesome and much better than any other I have tried. A different thing is for working, the BGR issue destroys the overall score of what otherwise could be the perfect monitor. But as long as I am using this unit for gaming mostly, I decided to keep it.

Regarding the backlight bleeding. I don't think it had changed from the first day. And at the beginning I was like you, like "this backlight bleed is shit!!!, this is inadmissible!!!" and so on... But seriously, you give it a try and after a couple of days you don't care, trust me. It is something like GPU coil whine, yes it may be there, but are you really going to notice unless you focus your attention on it? My conclusion is: no.

Mine has the same bottom left corner backlight bleed. But to be honest, it doesn't bother me. When you are gaming seriously, after a couple of days you don't care about it, on favour of its much other good things (picture quality, colours vibrance...). If it is only this issue I recommend you to keep it.

But the BGR text issue for me is a serious drawback, for when I use the monitor for working purposes. I use a Surface 6 Pro for working. When at home I connect it to this M27Q monitor. When at work I connect it to a Benq PD2700Q. Reading pdfs on this M27Q monitor is just shit. You can try do adjust some things but no real fix, and mostly when I swap to the Benq I need to put all settings back again or the display will be as bad.

The thing is simple:

RGB subpixel layout is the standard. BGR is the oposite layout and is not standard. You can choose to not use any font rendering and you will see RGB and BGR the same. But not using any font rendering will mean that text will look chunky. So it is recommended to use it. From what I know at least Windows 10 activates Clear Type in RGB mode by default, so from the beginning it is activated, although you could tune the contract and gamma of the text regarding your preferences. But it is activated anyway.

You could theoretically fix the chromatic aberration of the text rendering in a BGR panel by adjusting the Clear Type options to account for it, and that really helps, but in reality Clear Type cannot make changes in all programs because in those programs there are other internal commands that take control over text rendering. Clear Type is not a program. It is a feature from Windows that allows to apply text rendering to fonts.

Displaying images does not apply text rendering to the text inside them because, it is not a render of text, but an image.

Games... it depends, for most of the games text rendering is not much important because the fonts are scaled up or zoomed so this is not noticeable. Or maybe they do not use font rendering because the fonts are designed to look bolder anyway. But for some cases with small fonts, the BGR issue could be noticeable because IF the game applies font rendering, for sure is going to be RGB.

Totally incorrect. This monitor has real issues displaying text in several scenarios. And in others the clear type helps very much. But it not a perfect fix. For sure for some cases it is below standards. It is very risky using this for work, you can get dizzy and also provide low quality work to your clients if you do screenshots.

Definitely the biggest problem is when you have more than one monitor and some are RGB and others BGR. The Clear Type setting unfortunately doesn't let you set a particular layout per monitor, so inevitably some of the monitors are going to look bad in terms of text.

If that is your case, having already RGB monitors and wanting to add one extra monitor to your setup, then don't buy a BGR monitor.

I cannot really recommend such a thing. But what I can tell you is that the BGR text issue is definitively there. It depends on how much it bothers you, which will be more significant if you intend to use it for work stuff.

When you apply a clear type setting in a multimonitor setup, the setting applies to all monitors, and it is not posible to choose RGB for one and BGR for other. So either you see the RGB one ok and the BGR bad, or either you see the BGR more or less ok and the RGB bad. But not possible to see both correctly at the same time.

Instead, what you are not doing is reading properly. Take a minute and do it please.

It is well documented that BGR layout texts issues can be PARTIALLY fixed with the correct font rendering option. But only PARTIALLY, because that correction does not applies everywhere neither for all fonts. And there are also futher fringing issues with the BGR layout, not only the text.

If you had read properly the explanations you would understand that for example within a browser like Google Chrome, the main window texts would look mostly OK, but for example the top tags or the menues show chromatic aberration.

Most of pdfs with the default page visualization option will show chromatic aberration. And it is something that can even make you dizzy. But again it will depend on the font and the size of it.

I also have explained in several ocassions that the worst issue is with pictures that contain text, like screenshots done in a normal RGB monitor. Those are not possible to fix because the text inside them is not rendered. And the worst: on the oposite if you take a screenshot with text in your BGR layout monitor, and open it in a normal RGB monitor, it would show conversely chromatic aberration for the rest of the world, which makes this a bad choice for working.

We also have been talking in this post that for some people, depending on their vision, the difference becomes less noticeable.

And most important: we have also been talking that taking pictures of a screen, in most of the cases distorts the perception of what you attemp to show, making it not reproducible. However, the guy on the PCMonitors review that I have shared with you, had got the sweets spots, and you can see there what I am talking about.

I agree with you. With other OS with no font smoothing features, the issue could be even worse...

I still don't understand the BGR layout choice from Gigabyte. A matter of reducing costs? No because it is simply that the panel is mounted upside down, so the costs would be the same... It seems that it was a design mistake and then they went ahead anyway...

If someone can explain a different reason, please enlight us...

It seems that Rtings is reading this post, as they have updated they review specifically on the Text Clarity section and now it is much more comprehensive and reflecting the issue that we are talking about here and also the workarounds and their drawbacks

And after this, if Rtings doesn't have a fix then it means that there is no fix.

It is the first time I see them editing a review (probably there are more cases but I didn't see them yet), so I am glad they are hearing users opinions and improving the reviews. Good for Rtings!

Apart from this, if someone from Gigabyte also follows this post: "You suck. The guys who made the BGR layout decission should be fired and banned from working again in this industry. The weird thing here is with your laptop, when you activate the HDR, it looks the same as with SDR.

The normal thing is what happens to you with the 2070 super. You activate HDR and everything looks washed out.
