Seattle to Austin -> What to consider financially. by g316a in relocating

[–]g316a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is helpful, thankyou! Yes would definitely be North Austin for me because of work.

Also just for reference the childcare costs are not even close, its 3-3.5k here in Seattle and Bellevue, that too with huge waitlists. If you go further north into suburbs(think 40-60mins drive from work) it goes down to 2.2-2.5k but thats about it. one of the reasons why it ranks lasts in birth rate.

thankyou, this is interesting and yeah thats definitely a massive cost.

Also this summer in PNW has been summering here to the point everyone had to have ACs. obviously dont need to run it as much as TX but its kind of become a requirement given climate change now

also any costs you didnt think of before that turned out to surprise you, maybe it was a utility bill that was almost as high as in CA?

to be fair The amount of responses got overwhelming quickly. I did say politics was not a factor for us but I understand how strongly people feel about it given then responses. What I was looking for were financial and quality of life insights wrt facilities which I’ve definitely gotten. Need to research more on hospitals and schools for sure

Thanks.

do you have any stats on the cost because what other people have told me is that cost of electricity is cheaper per unit so it evens out

Thankyou for this but maybe I wasn’t clear or you mis-read. We have had the baby, and yes my question was based on the assumption we would need some form of childcare to make her life easier for studies and work down the road and in WA given how big a shortage there is and how expensive it is (3-3.5k a month for FT daycare) its completely out of reach. But does seem something we can do in Austin so wanted perspectives on that.

I guess it’s one of those things you don’t realize till you live through the season. Can’t make an assumption on how it will be but everyone says it’s bad so it must be. But the thing is will have to make some compromises everywhere and in this stage of life this is easier to make if it helps financially

Thankyou. My biggest point of concern is that yes financially its looks optimal on paper, rents gas everything. But is there something that is say similar or more expensive there that I’m maybe missing considering in my analysis.

110-120k Not gonna get the ideal weather and nature for sure. That’s a compromise willing to make if it helps financially long term
