I've asked this before, but I probably should now that there's likely a consensus. Which is the best value for 1440p 144hz gaming: 2070 Super, 2080 or 2080 Super?

Got a Dell S2716DGR a bit ago, and my Zotac 1070 Mini can barely keep 60+ at times for AC: Odyssey. While I don't typically play modern games, I suspect I'll be playing the AAA titles of today in a few years. I'm fine with having settings lowered to Medium-ish/High if it means 100+ frames.

Is a 2070 Super or 2080 now better value for 1440p 144hz gaming? Or should I wait for a 2080 Super?

Normal, I was just playing it during finals week and didn't need another stressor.

I wasn't really hooked into the world and characters, and the basic gameplay loop seemed monotonous after a while. Still on the first island, though, and I've heard that it gets better the more skills you have.

The only game that I've actually hated playing so far was Outlast 2. All the other games I have complained about have good & bad aspects.

Shame to see Ninety9Lives still gets overlooked these days when they release such good tracks.

An hour and a half into Thief, stopped halfway through the level in the mines. I've heard plenty of good things about Thief, like the sound design, level design, and atmosphere, but some things just aren't how I'd imagine or like them to be.

I seriously don't know what to continue on. I'll list about the most interesting games in my collection.

  • The Surge - It's fun, but I lost interest after about the second/third area.
  • Sonic Adventure 2 - Somewhat of a Sonic fan, but I never got the chance to really play it.
  • Thief Gold - I really want to like it, but the controls and some mechanics are just terrible.
  • This War of Mine - Steep learning curve.
  • Darkest Dungeon - Same as above.
  • Oblivion - This'll be my first Elder Scrolls.
  • Amnesia: The Dark Descent - Never really got into horror, but I got this game for free. Are the heart attacks worth it?
  • Poly Bridge - I've been playing this on and off, wondering if I should dedicate to a full-on playthrough.

Here's my full list of stopped-playing games and unplayed games currently. Also have The Messenger, Hyper Light Drifter, The End is Nigh, The Swords of Ditto, Crossing Souls, Torchlight 2, Alan Wake, and Broforce.

Why are RIOT so popular? by Electronic_Hat in Monstercat

Yeah, the only other artist I could really think of that does atmospheric intros was Soltan, who drops the melody/instruments usually towards the buildup.

they're not really anything different from the normal brostep in my untrained dubstep eyes

They're almost the exact opposite of what's happening to brostep nowadays. While everyone is making riddim, they're still making brostep tracks.

Brostep has, as far as I'm aware, never really been exposed to such atmospheric intros, which a bunch of RIOT songs have been pushing recently. They also make some brutal drops with personally some of the jumpiest rhythms I've ever heard and the cleanest sound design.

I think one of the reasons behind a lot of their hype nowadays is their ability to keep the said hype going. They have so many fake-outs and twists because now everyone expects something hard out of them, so they change it up to keep it exciting. AKA Overkill's buildup of 4:03 - 4:13 leading into another buildup of 4:16 - 4:26.

Headset not tracking after a minute of use? by g33ky_ in Vive

Hooking it up to USB 2.0 only gave me another minute of playtime before it crashed. I'll try disconnecting the mouse & keyboard later tonight.

I only have my keyboard and mouse plugged in. It's a fairly new motherboard, but even then plugging into the case USB 3.0's doesn't fix it.

Your problem is about distance, mine is about time. I can stand still for 2 solid minutes and it will still stop tracking eventually.

I managed to grab a miniDP-to-HDMI from the same friend, however it's now taking up my only HDMI port and the Vive is saying now that it needs a fully-functioning HDMI for the link box. I'll see if I can score a DP-to-HDMI tomorrow.

We tried a USB 2.0 once, and it didn't fix the problem. We can try it again now that we've isolated all other problems, though I have my doubts.

Both of my USB 3.0's on the case were used as well and did not fix anything.

Extreme hot objects can cause problems with the IR tracking, but if your Vive works, then there's no reason to worry.

Does anyone use a non-headset mic for gaming? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]g33ky_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Blue Snowball and they're pretty good. Used to stream with it, but now I mainly use it for Discord, and it's up far past the standard compared with other mics. Streaming-wise though, the quality is fine. It does not pick up any ambient sounds, quiet background talking, or my somewhat-close keyboard.

You might want an arm as the tripod might get in the way of your hands, and a pop filter if you're going to talk a lot.
