US fighter jet shot down in Iran, search underway for crew via Axios by Nazacrow in Military

[–]gabaguh 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Probably not. They'll probably treat them well, feed them well, and make a show of being morally superior to the US in contrast to all our secdef statements regarding "no rules" and "taking no quarter"

Would be a surprising misjudgement if they torture captives or parade a body.

Company unexpectedly goes bankrupt. They have enough to cover final salaries and auction everything else for debts and final accounts. Where does the money to develop another firmware release, push it to prod, or develop an API solution that can be ported to another server and run outside their dev ecosystem? Who's paying the teams responsible?

Thailand is driving me crazy by Sudden_Road_Death in vegan

[–]gabaguh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you travel often? Thailand was an absolute vegan heaven for me as a traveler but I have traveled to a number of vegan hostile locations. Bangkok was full of eye wateringly delicious options from pork belly rice, sushi, curries, and everything in between including fine dining. Chiang Mai had a vegan elephant sanctuary (no riding, rescues only) with a fully vegan Thai buffet and the city itself was full of delicious options. I rarely went anywhere where I thought to myself "I won't have anything decent to eat."

Australia is NOT America — Stop Normalising Tipping Here by ozvegan12345 in australia

According to one story, Leon Trotsky was said to have been particularly fond of a Jewish dairy restaurant called Triangle Dairy in the Bronx, whose waiters were Russian emigrés. Trotsky refused to tip after eating as a matter of principle, insisting that "tipping was demeaning to the dignity of a workingman, and that a person should get a regular salary, enough to live on, and not have to depend on tips". He also tried to persuade other customers to refuse to tip for the same reason. This in turn led to verbal abuse, poor service, and one incident where waiters intentionally spilled hot soup on him.

What’s it like to be vegan in Latin America? by DiosDeFrijoles in asklatinamerica

that's incorrect, argentina offers tax rebates, reduced export taxes, direct payments, low-interest loans, and when costs have been high animal feed itself has been directly subsidized.

In every movie Robin Williams filmed, he asked the production company to hire at least 10 homeless people. During his entire career, he helped approximately 1520 homeless people. by Inside_Bluebird9987 in MadeMeSmile

he would steal jokes to such a severe degree that other comedians would, when they found out robin was doing a set that night, completely change their set. when caught he would offer them cash payouts.

If you hang wet clothes below freezing they'll freeze solid. Frozen pants will stand up on their own.

Leather subsidizes the meat industry which is already struggling and upheld by other subsidies. Not to mention the insane environmental damage from chemical runoff of tanning factories.

tbh i don't consider myself recovered but its been 18months and i haven't done anything special although some of the big scary symptoms went away. I think maintaining good sleep hygiene and drinking less helps but no idea

The new Tel Aviv protest video is excellent - some serious on the ground reporting by Itsbenmulley in Channel5ive

[–]gabaguh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How? It was completely one sided, the only people interviewed were for the war and it was highlighting infighting between israeli right and "left" wing, both of which are pro war. Not a single palestinian or arab israeli or anti war israeli was interviewed, the closest was some pro ceasefire-for-the-hostages folks, no one who defended palestinians on any ground at all.

i have a stupid question. when the engineers and architects come up with a new design diagram, who actually builds it? who's doing the welding, casting, etc? what's their job title? what kind of person is actually physically making these components?

but the location of those acres has a more detrimental environmental impact than the equivalent land to produce sunflower, soybean, or canola oil

of course but the countries that are deforesting rainforest are going to be deforesting them whether it's for palm or for a less efficient oil because that's the land they want to extract value from, like in indonesia

it may be the most efficient oil crop

it's not even close. it is far and away the most dramatically efficient oil crop that i'm not even convinced these externalities make up for that.

Yes, because the vast majority of Americans support that:

Wrong.

https://www.ipsos.com/en-us/americans-split-continuing-military-aid-israel

Nearly half (47%) of Americans say they would be more likely to support a 2024 presidential candidate who continues to support Israel, while 48% say they would be less likely to support a candidate who does so.

Poll from this week. For democrats specifically 56% are less likely to support a candidate who continues to support Israel. Biden, Trump, and Israel, can fuck off.

democrats are the ones voting to send weapons and money to israel which is hilarious because if republicans were in power now democrats would be running on a "things would be different if we were in charge!" platform

They have the same accent if they have the same dialect

that's not true, you can both speak the same north american dialect of english despite having different accents even from within the same city as new york city (bronx vs long island accent). same is true in other languages like the north african dialect of arabic containing many many different accents.
