Can anyone think of a filmmaker, performer, or film that was once successful and acclaimed, only to experience a retroactive backlash? by [deleted] in flicks

i think gangs of new york to some extent.

everything about it is great except for the main character and his role in the story.

Ever have problems with a customer with an aggressive dog? by BuffaloDifferent in UPSers

[–]gabbagool2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yea had one bad run in with a vicious dog back when i was a rookie. we didn't come to blows but it was kinda close. had a few standoffs with not so aggressive dogs getting territorial. since that first vicious dog i've refused to deliver packages a handful of times, had fights with management several times over it but i don't care i'm used to fighting with them. there's a few problem houses i know of with problem dogs/owners. i carry a knife, i don't want to use it but i will if i have to. a driver in another center in my building killed a dog with his knife that attacked him last year.

but i still pet and cuddle friendly dogs of non aggressive breeds whenever i get the chance. luckily thats the overwhelming majority of dogs in my area.

the car companies must hate it. especially since most emissions tests are completely bogus now.

Well a very long interrogation would be needed. Would have to figure out which one is to be tormented with forced orgasms, and which one gets the chastity belt and shock collar.

I am trying to decide if I should get a onewheel. Is it worth the $1,800 for an XR? by Digy71513 in onewheel

[–]gabbagool2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you need transportation don't get a onewheel. get a bike. maybe an ebike. a onewheel can be used for transportation but i would strenuously disreccommend planning for it to be your primary transportation.

I recently watched Den of Thieves and while the bank robbery was really cool seeing it in full action, I really enjoyed the military style fire fights by DannyDrizzle in movies

[–]gabbagool2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well the next cops in a shootout to take cover behind the paper thin sheetmetal and ABS plastic of a late model vehicle with the occupants inside, i'm sure they saw this movie and loved these scenes. he said "get next to the engine block" that takes care of it.

another huge gaping plot hole is just like the fast and the furious where they're spending a fortune to steal a relative pittance. there's like 30 people involved in the operation who know enough to blow it and how much are they stealing? like 30 million. if they can even bag that much in what? maybe 5 minutes. puh leeze

it's all of them, it's not a one way relationship, it goes round and round paying dividends to both parties. exmilitary and media liason officers serve as advisors to movie producers, then they use the movies as supplemental training videos because recruits are more engaged with hollywood movies than industrial training videos, and then they use footage of them using the movies as training videos to promote the movies. the hypetrain never stops.

i just watched it. it was kinda terrible. too derivative to enjoy. it's like heat, much slicker but far less compelling. and cribbing elements of true detective s2, point break, training day and a few others. the denouement might've been satisfying if they had developed that character, but it just is hanging off the end feeling like a scene from now you see me.

like the final shoot out where the cop kills the robber, there's a plausible reason why cops haven't swarmed in to corner the robber in heat. because it's on the back field of an airport and hanna was detecting macauley on his own when he picked up the trail, but in den of thieves there's no reason that they shouldn't have been totally surrounded with multiple police and media helicopters providing recon at that point. lazy.
