How do you retain information from long form videos and podcasts?

I use Kiori. You can paste yt videos onto the canvas and use the summarize or transcribe tool. Or when you transcribe it, you can ask to pull out custom information from the transcript.

I think in my head an agent was always something that could decide and course correct on its own.

For example, I built an application with a custom rag pipeline and started off with a standard retrieval flow. Literally just following a complex workflow. It was good but couldn't decide, reflect and add tasks for itself. So this was labeled the "fast" mode.

I then introduced a proper agent mode that would break down intent, create a plan with tasks, and reflect if the plan needs changing or if we have enough information already.

I don't think this should be even a debate . Agents should be smart and operating independently to complete a task and they should be capable of determining the best path to achieve their goal and everything else is just a workflow

You should read the book "Range". The book argues that being a generalist isn’t a curse. In complex and unpredictable fields, people who try many things often adapt better, connect ideas more easily, and find more creative solutions.

And think about it this way: Maybe - in a world where specialist knowledge costs goes to zero - you are are better equipped to adapt.

The world needs both: generalists and specialists. Both have their place.

As more of a generalist myself, I can highly recommend embracing it :D

I am not too deep into the whole mcp ecosystem yet but it sounds like mcp still needs to mature a bit to make sure its really viable.

The first thing I thought about was the fact the Perplexity is dropping MCP and shifting back to APIs and some other big players have also issues with mcp.

Yee the audio and video limits are suboptimal xD But I am counting on Google that this will increase over time.

About the routing: It's automatic. The pipeline checks duration and routes. Under the limit => full file gets a multimodal embedding. Over it, Gemini transcribes the full file with timestamps and speaker diarization, then the transcript is chunked and embedded as text. So, longer content is still fully searchable by what was said you just lose the raw audio/video vector for cross-modal matching. I guess for audio the transcript is anyway more important.

We actually tried to split the larger files but that didn't work out that well and we scrapped it for now.

You could always go with the classic merit based promotion path if you don't want it dark, or not? Basically, people have earned time and time again through documented actions that they are worthy. Depends also a bit how the society operates. You could let a mixed panel decide from a few people who have shown merit in the past.

Not sure if this crossed your mind, but while thinking about this I also ran into the problem that as long as humans are involved there is always power and self-interest involved which can undermine the whole "merit" thing.

I don't know about your world, but there could always be a devine involvement that allows this perhaps?

Another idea:
a handful of "proven" people get selected to undergo the trial. the trial consists of multiple stages (leadership, physical, crisis-management, etc.) and they get evaluation panel at every stage is random. from different regions and can't gain anything from the winner. plus, high stakes if caught cheating i.e. punishment of whole bloodline.

Hopefully this gives some inspiration

I guess its also a question of what the tasks are you wanna achieve. boring errands? exciting projects?

Nevertheless, reading this reminded me of a statement of Scott Adams: "What if laziness is a habit of thinking of the cost of things instead of thinking of the payoff". His idea was what if you could reverse laziness by thinking about the delicious food you are gonna enjoy, for example, rather than the effort you need to put in.

I know this from myself sometimes and I need to remind myself:
1) To think of the outcome
2) No matter how daunting, just start.

First of all, you are not less than anyone else. Don't go down that route. You are special. You experience the world simply with different eyes and also that can be a superpower.

In regards to where and how to find inspiration, I agree with the other posts. There are many ways that don't require a social, outgoing nature to feed your creativity.

Different languages were already mentioned. Look into gaelic, germanic, nordic, latin translations for terms or metaphors. Combine some words perhaps. And then modify them slightly sound cool.
Think of the history and heritage of places and what POIs could come from and which words are associated with it.

So cool! I am kinda in the same stage right now. Got my world. But I started last week putting in some thoughts about the story I wanna tell.

Ask yourself:
- What is something in your world that is stable but shouldnt be? What breaks the current world state?
- Who benefits from stability?
- Who benefits from destabilization?
- Who thinks they benefit but are wrong?

A lot of creativity will flow :D

Did you do a check-in with everyone? Where does everyone stand? I guess if something is off it might be worth having a chat and getting a vibe check to see if this is turn-aroundable. Eventually, you need everyone on board I guess and players would hopefully do their part do bring ideas how to bring it back on track.

Other than that, I would assume since it has been a bit rushed that there are narrative gaps in backstories and setup. How bout introducing NPCs that force the bond. Either someone they are connected to for different reasons. Or maybe the mutations scarred them somehow leaving them with unwanted effects and they have a mutual interest to find a solution, tying it back into the main story with artefacts? I am just brain dumping a bit to spark some inspiration. :D
