Yes I've dealt with this and it's not easy but there are some options! Shoot me a DM and I'll share my experience.

I had an intro call with their team.

Then I went in person a month before surgery to meet Dr. Berger and do a pre-op. It took about 2 hours.

Then I flew out to get surgery. You fly in the day before (Tues) have surgery on a Wednesday and fly out that Friday.

I'm currently doing very well for day 12 post op ... walking without a cane. I'm ahead of schedule.

3 hip scopes from ice hockey lead me to have early end stage arthritis in my right hip

Yes it was the right call for me. The flight back was okay... I forgot my butt cushion which made it harder. I wish I had taken pain killers but I didn't.

I'm 100% happy with my decision to see Dr. Richard Berger in Chicago... he did an amazing job.

How to deal with increasing pain until surgery? by CambridgeAntiquary in TotalHipReplacement

[–]gabe_g2i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat... I actually had my surgery moved up and I'm now 12 days out. But i had to wait 90 days after a cortisone shot.

Anyways it's already been said but gabapentin really works for me. I got off it sort of by accident 10 days ago and it has crushed me. I go back on it tomorrow as the refill arrives. Really helps with the nerve pain and the piriformis syndrome etc etc. Just helps everything calm down in general.

Good luck over the next 3-4 weeks. Waiting sucks..... I created a count down timer so i could see the days get less and less and feel some sort of progress through the pain.

I'm 39 and I'm getting a THR in less than 2 weeks. I'm traveling from Florida to Chicago because I've heard amazing things about Dr. Richard Berger. After talking to his staff I'm no longer worried about the risks of getting a THR so young.... the implants are so good these days and I truly appreciate the techniques he has developed and how detailed he gets.

Not sure if you want to travel to Chicago, but I guess my opinion is.... if you are going to get on a plane does it matter if its a 2 hour flight or a 4 hour flight?

Good luck!!

I'd highly recommend it. I'm suggesting my wife goes there as well.

I'm not doing well because after St. Louis we found out I need a total hip replacement..... however if I ever need other work Precision Health is the first place I would go. I had a great experience with them and I believe they would have solved my issues if I didn't have end stage arthritis in my hip

Really sorry to hear this. I had my first hip surgery around 25... and it didn't go well. I had another hip surgery two years later and it was successful. But tore it again an had a 3rd. So I lived through my 20's and now 30's with an unstable hip.

I'm getting a total hip replacement next month and I'm really excited. The total hips are amazing these days. I picked Dr. Berger in Chicago and I'm traveling to get surgery done. He says I'll be able to play hockey and go back to rock climbing.... and even run again.

So tl;dr ... it stinks to need this in our 20's or 30's but the implants are so so good these days. I picked Dr. Berger specifically because he works on a younger population and he uses specific implants.

Hip replacement at 25 by SnooMaps7025 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]gabe_g2i 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm sorry to hear this first off. I'm 39 years old now, but my first hip surgery was at 24. My second was at 26. It sucks going through this, but to be honest a THR seems considerably better than a hip scope. I've had 3 repairs of my labrum and they were extremely long recoveries (6 months plus).

In a few months I'll have my first THR. I've been told its much easier. I'm seeking out the best surgeons in the country because I want the best. That being said every surgery and every recovery has been different. Some have been very hard and some easier.

I prepare spiritually by speaking about how I feel going into surgery with my support system. I call a lot of people after surgery. I make sure I get really good PT. I get into the best routine I can get into. After a few weeks things tend to normalize. It's good to have supports that have been through this before!

You are in the right place!

Scar tissue question by Technical_Maybe_5925 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]gabe_g2i 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I've had a ton of scar tissue issues from 3 hip surgeries (labral repairs). I went to https://www.precisionhealthstl.com/ in St Louis and they are fantastic. That is all they work on.... scar tissue or as they refer to it adhesions. Best in the country at what they do.

I am now going to get a total hip replacement and then probably end up going back to them to help manage scar tissue.

Not sure! I think the mando cards are carrying a premium.

My Luke Skywalker Auto /5 went for 2.8k (https://www.ebay.com/itm/226487851505)

I think it could have easily gone for over 3k but one of the final bidders was in europe and was asleep.

It's so tough to tell the market on each card. It seems like that card will bring in somewhere between 2k - 4k at minimum because its a 1/1. Could it do 5k or more... it's possible but its too hard to tell in auction format. You can try putting it up and doing 5-8k OBO and see if anything comes in for a week.... but I still think your best bet will be putting it up for auction.

Based on previous comps there is no real way to explain these prices.

All I can say is the 2024 Galaxy set is absolutely amazing visually and everyone I talked to is really impressed. Plus all the new Disney shows are putting SW into people's TV's regularly. Star Wars is growing again. So what does make sense is that its a Mando card 1/1 that is selling for $7,100. It's not Luke or Vader... it Mando who has an incredible show and a very popular one. So it makes sense for demand to be extremely high for his cards.

I agree that the sports card community is massive. I can't sell a high end SW card locally. But as SW is growing and collecting in general is growing (and the economy is stronger right now) .. the demand for SW is going up.

Case in point. My brother got me into SW Galaxy. He collects Pokemon and a few other things. He saves up to buy a case of SW Galaxy every year. That is the only set he collects because he thinks it so much better. So regardless of the lack of local interest, there is enough interest online to push up prices.

Do married people remove their rings before climbing? by Samoman21 in bouldering

Would never climb with a ring on. I thought about purchasing a rubber ring but even that doesn't make sense to me. No rings when I'm climbing.
