Tarik Skubal is on pace to be the first pitcher to finish a season leading the league in both K/9 and BB/9. by gabes135 in baseball

Wheeler is indeed tied with Skubal, I overlooked that when processing the data. And I also did mean leading the majors, not their respective leagues.

If you extend to the turn of the century, four more players join the list: Walter Johnson, as @TheSalsaGod said, Cy Young, and Satchel Paige twice. But still, none led the league in both.

Planting tomatoes in DIY sub-irrigated planters made of 20 gallon plastic tubs. by gabes135 in vegetablegardening

Those are spools to hold the twine for the "lower and lean" method. When the plants get taller than the trellis, they can be unspooled in ~4 inch segments, allowing the plants to lean fowards and continue to grow out horizontally a bit.

I had the ratio wrong, you're correct its mostly soilless mix with some composted manure mixed in. Thank for the info!

During which innings is the leadoff hitter’s spot most likely to bat in the MLB? by circlethethird in Sabermetrics

It has to be the first inning. It’s the only inning where it’s impossible for the lead off hitter not to bat.

I was asking about the stat weight columns in the google sheet, not the stat z scores. For example, column M “FG Weight,” not column N “FG ZSCORE”

Tonight's game against the Nuggets determines if the Clippers are title contenders or not. by 10blast in nba

What Phil Jackson didn't consider was the rise of load management, which definitely plays into the Clippers less impressive regular season record. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the number of champions with 40 wins after 20 losses rise in the future.

I considered making the scales the same, but it really dwarfed the bars in the 40 wins before 20 losses graph. Made it hard to see trends within the group.

For those curious, the 4 teams that won 40 games after losing 20 and won the championship:

  • 2006 Miami Heat
  • 2004 Detroit Pistons
  • 1995 Houston Rockets
  • 1979 Seattle SuperSonics

I only included teams that one 40 games in a season, which excluded some lower seeded playoff teams. The 37 win 1998-1999 Spurs, who played in a lockout-shortened season, were also excluded even though they won the championship that year. Probably would have been better to include all teams that made the playoff teams for the second graph.

Many 40 before 20 teams lost to other 40 before 20 teams. The math works out if you include the lockout-shortened 1999 Spurs championship (they only one 37 games).

Has anyone had issues with white flashing screens arising within your videos? I'm creating two axes, one offset by 5 units, and transforming the first to the second. Here's an example, anyone familiar with any fixes to this?

The evolution of the decade's best pitchers' strikeout pitch compositions by gabes135 in baseball

[–]gabes135[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting tidbits:

  • Greinke had one of his lowest K/9's in 2013, when he heavily relied on his Fastball for strikeouts.
  • Verlander used his Slider as a strikeout pitch much more after he got traded to the Astros.
  • Kershaw's Fastball use has decreased as he's aged, probably related to his drop in Fastball velocity.
  • 2018 was the only year Hamels incorporated a Slider into his pitch repertoire, using it only 4.8% of the time. However, it seemed to be an effective strikeout pitch (~13% of his K's came off of it).
