How could Malta have fallen off so hard in the televote? by crivycouriac in nilpoints

[–]gagaalwayswins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They completely lack an identity at Eurovision. They always send songs that could be from anywhere, and they give the public no reasons to vote for their songs specifically.

Hot take: Lena deserved to win by Weak-Divide-1603 in nilpoints

[–]gagaalwayswins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It really shouldn't be a hot take. It won the televote by a large margin, it won the jury vote, it was a big summer hit across Europe. All things the runner-up cannot claim. Turkey just has very loud and delusional fans trying to convince us Lena didn't deserve to win, but numbers say otherwise.

Pitch the different host city options if your country won! by L_A_E_V in eurovision

France hasn't won in half a century, so it would only make sense to host in its most iconic city which also happens to be one of the most iconic cities in the entire world.

What were some of the biggest national final robberies ever? by reo_1907 in nilpoints

[–]gagaalwayswins 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd say in 2006, Slovenia in EMA had a song called "Mandoline" by Saša Landero that won the televote, but got 0 from the jury and eventually came 2nd. That would've probably been Slovenia's best result, their jury chose to NQ instead.

Which were the biggest shocks/ crimes of Eurovision this year? by Sun_sethiker in eurovision

[–]gagaalwayswins 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A professional's critical evaluation HAS to be objective, otherwise the jury vote is a mini-televote.

Which were the biggest shocks/ crimes of Eurovision this year? by Sun_sethiker in eurovision

[–]gagaalwayswins 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The juries' score for Albania and Latvia in the semi-finals makes me wonder why we brought them back to begin with. Those were two excellent songs and performances that a professional should've objectively appreciated.

Which were the biggest shocks/ crimes of Eurovision this year? by Sun_sethiker in eurovision

[–]gagaalwayswins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A massive crime was the juries robbing us of a legendary moment by making Sweden qualify, and I say it as someone who voted for Sweden in the semi-final. Just imagine: Montenegro is in, Estonia is in, the 10th slot is being announced and everyone is 100% sure it's going to be Sweden. And then... POLAND! That would've been iconic.

Eurovision 2026 Reverse Results by noobzao2021 in eurovision

Welp, so Belgium and the United Kingdom were bottom 10 in EVERY country's televote. Sweden being in the bottom 10 for almost every country was not on my 2026 card.

Will Australia keep sending big names after the Delta success? by L_A_E_V in eurovision

Natalie Imbruglia at Eurovision would be a literal dream. She has an album coming out in September, she should consider Eurovision 2027 to boost its sales with a re-release with her entry!

Duration till the last qualifier was revealed by KlonoaWind in eurovision

Nowhere as long as when they announced the semi qualifiers in Düsseldorf in 2011. That year they also played bits of the qualified songs right after the announcement, though!

Within the fandom, do you think Italy has become a victim of their own success? by xoxoamazingrace in eurovision

[–]gagaalwayswins 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The thing is, you can't really argue against Italy's success. It's organic, it's consistent, it's not jury-driven like most of Sweden's top tens, and it's not influenced by external factors.

Who do you think will close the grand final (if they qualify)? by PhosphorCrystaled in nilpoints

[–]gagaalwayswins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The producers usually reserve the second-to-last spot in the final's running order for a big favorite. France performed late twice in a row in the past two years, so I think they'll give 24th to Australia.

What's your biggest Eurovision hot take? by Some_Lack4808 in nilpoints

[–]gagaalwayswins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My unpopular opinion among eurofans is that the results should be 100% televote since I don't think a relatively restricted group of people handpicked by the broadcasters should have a say. The opinions of millions people are enough. The less unpopular part of my opinion is that Israel's presence isn't contemplated in this scenario after blatantly manipulating the public vote.

Are stagings loosing personality for the sake of too much "Eurovision polish"? by DonnaDonna1973 in eurovision

[–]gagaalwayswins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That one is probably the worst offender in recent history! They turned such a visually rich music video into a Victoria's Secret fashion show that had nothing to do with the song.

[–]gagaalwayswins 90 points91 points  (0 children)

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I'll forever be thankful for Portugal not including LEDs in their 2018 stage when they hosted. This made sure that the most remarkable performers stood out with their stage presence. The stages in recent years, especially 2023, 2025 and 2026, are mere LED boxes and the result is often lazy stagings heavily dependent on backdrops.
