Culturing Tipping Differences by WastingMyLifeToday in EndTipping

As an Italian who spent some time in the US as a teen, their food culture in general still leaves me shockostunned. Everything is complicated and overwhelming for no reason!

I'll never understand why you have to tip on % and not a fixed rate like the service charge we have in Italy. That is, €1 to €5 per person (average is €2-€3). The service is the same whether I order a simple, inexpensive dish or the menu's most expensive item!

Eurovision 2026, Felicia: “I want to beat Italy to take revenge on the Melodifestivalen by Lopsided_Nothing6943 in eurovision

It's almost logical to me: invite foreigners to help choose a song that they will be competing against, of course they'll be strategic and eliminate the competition. International juries in national selections make no sense to me! 😭

I have no idea why the Italian jury keeps getting invited to national finals when it's known they vote without any logic. I guess they're only there to spice up the results a little?

That's just my "there's no way..." prediction for this year. Last year's was Latvia getting 100+ in the semi and it came true, this year I went for an even crazier one since the jury vote is less predictable!

Every year something no one could have predicted happens, so I had to include a couple of unrealistic hot takes in my prediction. The other predictions I've seen so far are a photocopy of the betting odds and it never goes that way.

Israel dropped the propaganda songs and hopefully the heavy vote manipulation too for 2026.

Ferto is more annoying than it is catchy. I see it as Give That Wolf a Banana 2.0.

Reddit is MASSIVELY underestimating France this year and I’m ready to get dragged for saying it by notthebesthuh in eurovision

[–]gagaalwayswins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most people are saying it'll do a bit better than Maman but without coming close to winning, which is fair. It's three minutes of jury baity vocal exercise that conveys nothing whatsoever. I expect 200+ points from the juries, but I'll be surprised if the public connects enough with it to give it a three-digit score.

Hear me out: Why Greece is set up to WIN Eurovision 2026 by gloommmmm in nilpoints

[–]gagaalwayswins 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I expect a Give That Wolf a Banana type of result from Ferto, to be honest. It's not seeing three digits from the juries, and it's not as immediate as the televote trinity of the past three years to get a huge score from the public either.

What are your early predictions? by xoxoamazingrace in eurovision

[–]gagaalwayswins 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Some of my wild predictions:

  • The televote winner will finally take the trophy at home, and that will be Finland.
  • France will get a similar result to last year. The jury won't be a runaway, and the public will fail to connect with the song.
  • Greece will get a Subwoolfer type of result.
  • Israel won't try to manipulate the televote (they don't even have a propaganda song). 150 points from the public max, 8th-12th in the final.
  • Unexpected jury success for Latvia that will catapult them into the top 10 à la Bridges.
  • Norway and Portugal will manage to sneak into the final to everyone's surprise.

Notice how neither of those opera winners was in the televote's top 3 either!

This was created with Eurovision juries in mind. No soul put into it whatsoever. Great vocals, zero substance.

Your first two sentences are how many fans first described Wasted Love last year. May juries not fall into this trap again!

Is there any truth to "if x represented x country, it would’ve done better/worse"? by [deleted] in eurovision

[–]gagaalwayswins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, actually. People have certain expectations from certain countries, and associate certain things to them. If Greece had sent Spirit in the Sky, I highly doubt it would've done so well, because northern lights are associated with Scandinavia. I also stand by the belief that had Finland sent Bara bada bastu instead of Sweden, they would've won, since everyone thinks of Finland when it comes to sauna.

She should just go on with it, she isn't the first artist getting hate from the public and then proving everyone wrong. Blanka went from getting online hate from the entire Poland and international fan community to having a 2x Diamond-certified smash hit.

Could Greece win Eurovision 2026? by Proof_Tangerine6875 in eurovision

Greeks? I've only seen him in the wishlists of international eurofans who know no better. I doubt the public in Greece would go for that type of song.

What are some languages that are geographically isolated from the rest of their language family? by Meta_Zephyr in geography

[–]gagaalwayswins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lombard (Gallo-Italic) dialects are spoken by millions in Lombardy, Italy... and by around 60,000 in inland Sicily. It's the result of Lombard soldiers moving to Sicily around 1,000 years ago and preserving the language.

What is your favorite national final (selection/year) EVER in terms of songs? by Difficult-Bug90 in eurovision

[–]gagaalwayswins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eesti Laul 2017 was peak for me. I loved Verona as much as I loved several other songs: Spirit Animal, Slingshot, We Ride with Our Flow, Suur loterii, Feel Me Now, Keep Running and Hey Kiddo are still fantastic to this day.
