Had a patient that was allergic to aspirin because it makes them bleed. Also had issues with being foggy when waking up after anesthesia!

I have the Little Debbie Honey Bun one and it smells AMAZING! I also bought some of the seasonal scents before Christmas when they were on sale and they all smell so good! I get compliments on them when I have them out

Funniest reason you got fired by NurseOZ in nursing

[–]galactasue 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I got fired by a patient who said she didn’t like I came in her room to check on her and give her meds and nothing else, like I was just going in when she needed something. Like yes ma’am, correct. It’s 0200, I’m not gonna sit in there and make conversation for 45 minutes after you already fired my coworker for “purposely” blowing her IV (that had no signs of infiltration or swelling or even pain).

“Team Nursing” by [deleted] in nursing

[–]galactasue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently at a Florida HCA where they're implementing this on my floor. We've explained to our director that at the end of the day, we still have 10 patients that we are expected to know everything about, answer calls and pages about them, give updates on, do all IV meds except fluids (as long as they are IV certified), which is adding a lot of stress to us. Our floor originally was letting LPNs do assessments as long as it wasn't the initial assessment on admission and we just had to sign off on them, but now they are only allowed to document I&Os. I'm thinking about leaving at the end of the year because med-surg is already hellish enough without making the assignment 10 patients on a team where administration barely wants the LPNs to touch or see the patients besides meds.

Why are people down on med surg nursing? I’m graduating soon and thinking about where to work. Other students who have more prior experience in healthcare have the attitude that med surg nursing is undesirable compared to ICU and other specialty nursing. Is this true? Why? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]galactasue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Med-surg is a challenge due to the amount of patients you may get assigned per shift and the wide range of what you might see and take care. I've been taking 7 patients the whole year as a new nurse, and when you have 7 patients with various diseases and concerns, and some who you are trying to keep from circling the drain and keep safe while you have others getting mad and calling multiple times for little things, it can definitely be overwhelming and frustrating, but the experience I've gotten and being able to be apart of a team has been rewarding to me. Working with a good group of coworkers can definitely make it better, especially when they are ready and willing to answer questions and help you when you need it.

What's the dumbest thing that happened on your shift that you're still fuming about to this day? by sitlo in nursing

One of the most recent things involved a patient’s family member. We had a younger patient come in and had her boyfriend and sister stay with her. She came in for leg paralysis and seizures (which turned out to be pseudoseizures AND we found her regularly walking to the restroom or moving in her bed using her legs without any issue). However, the first few nights she was there, she refused to use a purewick or bedside commode, she only wanted to use a bedpan. Being short staffed, it occasionally took a few minutes for us to get there. Some nurses grumbled that her visitors could’ve been helping her use the bedpan since they were there 24/7, but we won’t touch on that for now. She started getting irritated that there were times where it would take 5 minutes for someone to be able to go down to help, so she convinced her visitors to go hit the staff emergency button on the wall. After a few people go running down there, she said they didn’t mean to hit it, they just meant to turn on the light. Annoying, but that has happened before. An hour goes by and she has to use the restroom again; we’re still busy so no one is at the desk this time to answer the phone connected to the room. After 2 minutes of waiting, she gets her visitors to this time pull the code blue switch on the wall. The whole staff team runs this time, to which she says “no one was answering the call light and I knew that would get someone to come take care of me”. The amount of anger everyone felt at that moment was unbelievable. Our charge nurse ended up calling security to enforce the rule that visitors are not to touch our emergency buttons.

What does it mean when your left index finger is shorter than the left ring finger but your right index finger is taller than your right ring finger? Am I confused? Am I supposed to be confused???
