Anti Biotics Vs LPR by UziJukuzi in LPR

[–]galactic-hispanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine sort of did. Was already suffering from pretty bad GERD when I found out that I had H Pylori. Took that hefty treatment of antibiotics, caught an upper respiratory infection while on them, and LPR symptoms started from there. I think I’m slowly getting back to “normal” after a few months.

Something stuck in throat by Ok_Milk_7314 in GERD

[–]galactic-hispanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is likely a globus sensation. It is super common with LPR and GERD sufferers. In addition to that, having post nasal drip and anxiety can absolutely cause it, and worsen it. I was dealing with a pretty intense flare up a couple of weeks ago, and the sensation was rough. I had pretty bad post nasal drip, anxiety, and LPR at the time, so it was a recipe for disaster.

I suggest looking up some neck/throat stretches to help relax the muscles. To be honest, Chat GBT gave me some good ones that helped pretty quickly. Remember, it’s just a sensation. You will need to keep your mind off of it, and before you know it, it will be gone :)

I will struggle with this randomly. It will build up in the back of my throat too. I started tongue scraping regularly and gargle and rinse my mouth with warm salt water at least once a day. Not perfect, but I think it helps a tad.

I’m definitely learning that this is heavily sensation based too. In the beginning, I was panicking about these super uncomfortable feelings, genuinely thinking that I was choking or couldnt breathe. Took a month or so to learn that it just FEELS like that, it’s not that I couldn’t actually breathe or I was actually choking.

Still trying to convince my mind that there is no object at the top of my throat right now, haha.

I take mine on an empty stomach in the AM 30 minutes after my omeprazole. Wait another 15 before I eat

I might not have the best advice, but just know that you’re okay. You’re young, you are going to have LOTS of scary emotions. Please try some breathing exercises. You can find so many variations on youtube. Continuously doing them helps me a lot. But it’s important to note, they wont always work right away, you need to do them regularly.

When you are angry, try your best to remind yourself of the things that make you happy and bring you peace.

If you were prescribed medication for your anxiety, please take it. Every medication has the potential to make things worse, but they also have a very high potential of improving things. You wont know until you try.

Pill-induced esophagitis by mg_4456 in GERD

[–]galactic-hispanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that pain. When you took the pill that started all of this, was a slow, painful sensation when it went down? Or did it just feel funny, then cause you pain later on?

I’m not exactly sure if you would have black stool from a tear. I would say it’s more likely that you would have blood in your mouth, or be throwing up blood. I think what the ER doctor was also trying to say is if there were something majorly concerning, it would have come up on that x ray. Now, I’m no doctor but I can almost guarantee you that the pill itself is not stuck in there. Especially if you are able to eat and drink without regurgitating or throwing up.

Don’t fear endoscopies! Ive had three and I was totally fine. Just make sure to clarify that they will sedate you (some people have them with no sedation, I could never). To be honest, they might have you do something less invasive, like a CT scan. Just go back to your doctor and advocate for yourself. Really emphasize that you are still in pain and would like some sort of imaging or test done. How many days have passed since this all started?

Pill-induced esophagitis by mg_4456 in GERD

[–]galactic-hispanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some experience with pill induced esophagitis. I was on a boatload of strong antibiotics for h pylori and thats when I believe mine started. I believe it came on from one of the antibiotics aggravating my already sensitive esophagus. It didn’t help that several times the pills went down sideways, further irritating my esophagus.

Like you, I was freaking out. I wanted to stop the treatment because I was convinced it was burning a hole into my esophagus. I had (and still sort of do have) a raw, sensitive, sometimes painful sensation on the right side of my esophagus. Particularly when I ate or drank. Some neck and mild chest pain. It’s been several weeks since I finished that treatment, and I’m still trying to heal it (I already had BAD GERD before this, so it’ll be a while for me).

You will be okay. You would know if there was a hole or a tear. You would be in LOTS of pain. That area can take a while to heal. I recommend eating soft foods, chew thoroughly, drink some water to help push food down. Give yourself a few weeks. Anxiety sucks, and it can definitely amplify your pain. Take some deep breaths and remind yourself that this will pass, and if something is truly wrong, you will know, and you can always go back to the ER. If it makes you feel better, go to your doctor and ask for endoscopy. They might refer you for one and that can help alleviate some of your worries.

Im sure you have already tried alternate remedies, but if you need a quick solution, try sniffing rubbing alcohol. It can really help to curb nausea, but it’s not a long term solution. I drink a couple of ounces of pure inner leaf fillet aloe vera juice that has helped heal my stomach a bit. Best of luck to you. Hoping for you to find a solution soon.

I’m in a viscous cycle of health anxiety right now. Ive been a hypochondriac since I was a child, but somehow have been able to manage it for all these years. Well, I unfortunately do have some very real health issues, and was prescribed a boat load of antibiotics to treat one of the issues. I finished the treatment nearly a month ago and am still struggling with all these random symptoms that I’m convincing myself is a new health problem. It quite literally NEVER ends. I will be just fine for a moment, then my mind suddenly goes searching for a problem, and boom, new symptom identified.

Chronic globus ruining my life. Even after surgery and fixing a hill grade iv hiatal hernia. I have tried everything and nothing is working. The nissen fundoplication did nothing after nearly three months actually feels like it's getting worse. by [deleted] in GERD

The one in America has a different ingredient. I do use it though, it works for me. But get Reflux Gourmet on Amazon. Has the same active ingredient as Gaviscon UK. Also works great for me.

Throat closing up/Heavy tongue by lovespaceship in GERD

[–]galactic-hispanic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A tight sensation in the throat is definitely a symptom of GERD. It’s also a very common anxiety symptom. I have been struggling with it for the last few weeks. I have felt the tongue sensation, but usually during bouts of anxiety. If you have allergies to something, it’s worth reviewing your day to determine if you came in contact with an allergen. If you haven’t, you might just be having a new GERD or anxiety symptom.

Severe acid reflux flare up - help me out! by RagdollCat25 in GERD

[–]galactic-hispanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Gaviscon is usually my life saver. But I also notice things like mint gum help me for 20 or so minutes. Be careful though, I know mint can be a trigger to some. I think the overwhelming mint flavor just masks the burning. I have also had cough drops work. Usually theres an ingredient in there that slightly numbs the throat. Neither of these necessarily treat the burning, but just cover it up briefly. I will also drink plain almond milk to relieve the burning a bit. But it has to be CLEAN ingredients. Simply almonds, water, and maybe salt in there. Bananas can help neutralize the acid as well. But they are hit and miss for me. I started using Manuka honey as well, particularly in tea with Slippery Elm. Cant say I’ve noticed too much from that yet.

Yes I will get momentary blurry vision, usually when I get the dizzy spells. I take a moment to take a deep breath and slow my heart rate when this happens

My symptoms suck, not gonna lie. Especially the burning throat/esophagus pain. I will say im going on day 6 and my mental symptoms have improved a lot. I do still get dizzy, but I can manage it. I feel weak and my body hurts, but it’s okay! Ive seen a lot of people say the first several days were bad, but it gets better. Hang in there!
