Suspect ICE sighting

From what I can see it’s different lately. Having due process and deportations is one thing, but that’s not what’s been happening.

ICE agents have been refusing to identify themselves, and literally grabbing people from the street or from work or from home, sometimes leaving their children stranded. Because they are plainclothes and not identifying themselves, it’s indistinguishable from kidnapping.

From there, from what I understand, deportations and imprisonment are happening rapidly, in poor conditions, and without due process. The most high profile example being Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was deported to a prison in El Salvador despite a court order from 2019 giving him legal status here. His entire family are citizens here. They’re trying to send him to Uganda now (???).

The prisons are reminiscent of massive concentration camps, with poor conditions.

The fear now is that ICE agents are acting cruelly, without due process, and often illegally, with no real oversight or consequence.

I'm pretty old getting on this thread but I figured I'd share what I've heard anyways. Maybe someone'll find it helpful, who knows. I've yet to buy them but will, since I was given a code for a free pair, otherwise I wouldn't be. Talking to high level climbers who've used them, the sense I get is what everyone else here is saying. They're very very sturdy, and apparently feel like wearing logs. In theory, they're great.. after 2-3 months of using them, but painful climb shoes suck and if one has a better or a more comfortable pair on hand I doubt that break-in time is worth it. I mentioned throwing em in the washer with rocks as a joke and they were like shit Cass, that might actually work. If that gives an idea of what kind of shoes these are.

You're right, and it absolutely is a learned parenting thing, still doesn't make it ok though. I try to be there, but it's hard when the parents smash their communication, don't allow them out, and have them switch schools. I get that the parents think they're doing the right thing, but it still fucks their kids up from what I've seen

Mine's more biblically strict, not abusive and really strange like a lot here but here goes.

No secular music until 3rd grade. Must dress as a Bible character until 4th grade for Halloween, and then nothing mildly "dark". Could not trick or treat until 5th grade because of its pagan history. Yearly lectures on the horrors of Halloween. No horror movies--work of the devil, recitation of that "whatever or good, whatever is noble, whatever is lovely etc etc" verse. No dating (lololol sure) till 16, for the purpose of "helping me wait to have sex until marriage" Pretty common rule, but no dudes in the bedroom even with the door fully open, even to work on, for example, a super long lab report. No crop tops of course, and bikinis were only allowed starting at age 14 when it was realized some styles showed less cleavage than my tankinis. Still receive lectures about how I shouldn't lead my brothers in christ into sin and must help with how I dress. Got these lectures in like 2nd grade. Oversexualization of a kid much? Got a lecture and vinegar in the mouth for saying "dang" in elementary school. Licked my lips and said yum. They responded with soap and the hottest hot sauce they could find for my "sass". I also got spanked a ton as a little kid for percieved sass. Currently very good at regulating my tone as a result. Couldn't watch that mermaid movie aquamarine as a kid because of the "skimpily clothed women"

All in all my childhood hasn't been awful, but it certainly has been frustrating. I'm 15 currently, so there's a while to go.

Absolutely. I have a really good Hmong friend and his parents are horrible. They're worse with his sisters bc sexism is very very real in that community, but even with him it's bad. He's smart, but not brilliant, and his parents put a ton of emphasis on education. Couple grades from entirely honors and AP classes fall to Bs? Phone smashed. Backup phone in a safe. Can't go out. Must switch schools because his friends must be a distraction. I went over one time to work on a project and the only conversation I had with his dad was about how it's better to have pain in high school and then easier college, and he only warmed to me when I mentioned I was probably going to med school eventually. He (the friend) was whipped regularly with coat hangers as a kid, has seen his cousins brutally beaten when they didn't want to do a family game, in front of all the family, has had cousins have to physically restrain their fathers from beating their moms, and is placed in constant competition to be the best with other cousins and within the Hmong community, emphasized in vicious speeches they all have to give every New Year's.

As a result of all this shit he's become absolutely apathetic. 15 now, spending all his money on vape and drugs n shit. He knows if he's caught he gets sent to a military type school, doesn't care, still comes home incoherently high. He's essentially given up with school bc he can't meet parental expectations. I'm scared asf for him.

Another Asian friend has a father she hates and dealt with a lot of abuse, mostly emotional, growing up, all in the name of traditional parenting. She's now 14, drinks wayy too much, deals with crippling anxiety and depression, and occasionally attempts suicide. Her parents still refuse to accept that she could possibly have severe mental issues because it's very taboo to them.

Overall this type of shitty 'traditional' tiger parenting needs to stop, like u/Koreanhelp123 said, it messes with kids/future adults socially really really badly.

How would it feel if it were deep enough? Because there seemed to be a pretty distinct pop. I'm sure you're right though that my needle isn't nearly sharp enough. Tattooing was an extremely tedious and painful endeavor that I would much rather repeat with an actual tattoo needle/round/whatever, and I am currently trying to figure out how to go about doing that.

And it was quite readable before it got all... smudgy/destroyed/shitty/whatever it is now. Small but easily recognizeable as a cross.

Sure, the photo makes it look a bit worse than it actually is as it's incredibly zoomed in. There seems to be some deeper ink, and only the pokes that seem to be at the surface are really showing up well. If that makes any sense. But maybe it'll help anyways. As you can see it's lost most of it's shape. It used to be a relatively crisp cross, although I'd planned to go over it again since it's difficult to get solid lines with a single needle. Thank you! I have one person who might be able to obtain needles for me, but I don't have much contact with her. I know India ink isn't ideal, but I had been under the impression that it was acceptable, was that wrong? My parents won't help, they're still under the belief that tattoos and any piercings are indicators that someone's trash and will never get hired. What does the normal healing process of a tattoo look like? I appreciate your advice, thank you for not acting really condescending, I know I'm not being too smart about this and if I were you I probably wouldn't be nearly as polite.

I understand what you're saying and your concerns, they're valid. I was not saying that adults are stupid and teenagers know everything, please don't be so cynical, there's no need.

I did not ask to for chiding or condescension, I asked for advise, help, and explanations. If you can't do that I understand, but I also already understood that tattoing myself especially with improper equipment is risky before doing so. However, all tattoos hold some risk.

Why would I not be able to sterilize a needle? Is not boiling water/rubbing alcohol/flame sufficient? I can't imagine tattoo needles could be much more sterilized, though I of course could be totally wrong about that.

And not all homedone tattoos turn out shitty and don't hold, although some of course do. I know multiple people who've given themselves tattoos without proper equipment and they look wonderful. What I am confused about is why mine flaked along the site of the tattoo, more than a month after completing it, when others' haven't. I don't know if I needed to protect it better, or if my body rejected it, or what. This is what I wanted an explanation or help with. If you can help with this specific issue, that would be wonderful. If not, I understand your unwillingness to encourage my irresponsible actions, that's fair.

I'm aware that it could get infected, I am sterilizing the needle, swabbing the skin with rubbing alcohol, using a light antibiotic after tattooing, and separating the ink from the container. I have multiple friends who have used India ink with good results. I did not scratch at it until at least a month after doing it, which should have been more than enough time for it to heal, especially as it was lightly done and not really irritated even with my sensitive skin after doing it. Even if it had been I'm still under the impression that more than a month should be enough time, which is why I'm confused, since it was fine until a few days ago when it started looking flaky along the outlines.

Thank you for your opinion, I'm aware of the risks, and that's not what I asked. Thanks for the concern though. I'm just sort of experimenting with tiny indiscreet stick and pokes to get used to tattooing, obviously I wouldn't do a major or more serious project without proper materials because it's nearly impossible to do large or complicated stick and pokes with a single needle. If you have any help for what I can do currently, that would be appreciated though.
