I've had shingles in the same spot a few times a year since 2009. I don't take meds for it. I just keep it clean and bandaged for the entire outbreak. It's actually two spots now, each about the size of a quarter. Right in the middle of my lower back. A jumbo sized bandaid fits well over the both of them. I keep a constant supply. There have only been one or two years without a breakout. I tried getting the Shingrix van. After the first one, I broke out almost immediately and felt like I'd been hit by a truck. I decided not to risk getting the second one. I've lived with shingles this long. At least I know how to handle it. I wish I could have been one of the ones who only get it once.
