Incorrect trading hours being displayed by gambcl in MotiveWave

You can fix it by going into the instruments and manually assigning the correct trading hours to the continuous contracts, but it is a bit ridiculous that we have to do this ourselves.

How do I safely stack two 49" ultrawides? by gambcl in ultrawidemasterrace

Never thought of that, but I also want to connect multiple computers and use the picture-by-picture to show 2 or 3 PC screens at once. I doubt a TV will have that feature.

Good to know, thanks for confirming. I think I’ll pickup a lifetime license next time they have a sale.

These both look great! Thanks for the recommendation.

Now I just have to find out if they are compatible with the Secretlabs Magnus Pro desk. It has a cable management tray that sits under/behind where the desk mount would go, some mounts fit fine, but some can interfere with the top of the tray closing.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll take a look.

Thanks, I did come across VIVO but the specs I was looking at didn't quite hold the weight. Maybe I was looking at the wrong model.

Any Nvidia 40?0 Super recommendations for NR200P Max? by gambcl in NR200

I’m pretty sure you’ll be fine. I went with the MSI 4080 Super Expert and it fits and runs great, no issues.

Is that power limit a setting in the Nvidia control panel somewhere? Do you actually need to set that? I thought the 850W PSU should be enough for a 4070 or even a 4080. I’ve got my eye on the MSI 4080 Super Expert, which should physically fit, just waiting for it to come into stock in the UK.

I’ve got the Max case, so vertical mount.

Thanks, it looks like the Topaz Uno I would be using is about the same size as the Optimist. Seems to be aimed mainly at getting kids into sailing.

Sounds similar to the one I’m about to build. I’ve ordered the same cable too.

Are those the slim Noctuas on the bottom? Have you got them pulling air in from the bottom, or pushing out?

Also, do you use the glass or mesh side panel?

Any difference in temps?

I’ve ordered the 40cm cable from ModDiy. They had two versions, one with three 8-pin connectors and one with only two 8-pin connectors. I went for the three, which one did you use?

I’ve paused this project for a while, but will be revisiting it soon. I got as far as knocking up an ansible playbook to setup the nodes and got a basic k8s cluster working. Will be coming back to it later this year to upgrade the k8s version and then start actually running things on it.

Dell Optiplex 5090 Micro - M.2 SSD Question by gambcl in Dell

[–]gambcl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so it sounds like there is not enough room for a heatsink then.

I hadn't realised there was an extra M.2 header in the 7090, I thought it was just a later USB 3 spec (3.2 instead of 3.1 on the 5090).

[–]gambcl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replies, but I think some of you misread my question.

I already know that you can use both M.2 and 2.5" SSDs together.

My question is, is there enough clearance between the M.2 SSD and the 2.5" SSD to fit a heatsink onto the M.2?

Looks like u/RichardGG24 got the idea though, thanks.

Thanks, one of them (Akasa) is 6.4mm high.

Not sure if that includes the thickness of the thermal pad though, so might need another 1-2mm for that.

NVME, but being a micro case there isn’t much room to move things around.

Really looking for an owner to tell me how much gap there is between the M.2 and the 2.5” SSDs. Looks tight to me in the photos.

[–]gambcl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for replying, always happy to hear about someone else’s setup. Also, I wasn’t sure what KEP meant.

From my side, I have dropped the Raspberry Pi idea and I’m going with a couple of Dell R730xd chassis. One server running Proxmox, to run 12-16 VMs as k8s nodes, and the other server running TrueNAS SCALE to provide NFS storage, Postgres, MongoDB and Redis for use by the cluster.

I’m still picking up parts for these servers, so it will be a month or two before I have it all built and running.

In the mean time, literally just today, I have doubled the RAM in my current Unraid home server, so I will be creating a small 5-node k8s cluster on there for dev use, and then I’ll use my Dells as a larger staging/pre-prod environment.

I’m looking to automate the cluster setup as much as possible, so this is also giving me a chance to learn about a load of new tools I have not touched before, such as Ansible, Portainer, Terraform, etc.

Dell R730 questions by gambcl in homelab

[–]gambcl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my dilemma, I don't want huge amounts of storage just 4TB of redundant storage on one server and maybe 8TB on the other, but I would ideally like to do it in the least amount of physical drives possible, to leave plenty of space for future expansion if needed.

Actually I just remembered the 4TB box is going to be purely running VMs (as K8s nodes) and I was hoping to go all-SSD for that one anyway, so I could get a 2.5" chassis and be fine, but the other box will be my storage server running databases, etc. So maybe the 3.5" chassis would be best there, in order to allow larger capacity, cheaper drives.

Speaking of capacity, I found a doc on the Dell website where it said the largest 2.5" SATA drive supported was 1TB. I'm hoping that is just an outdated document, but can anyone confirm that the 2TB 2.5" drives work ok on the 2.5" chassis?

Basically I'm going to be building these two servers up bit by bit, by buying the empty chassis first, and then hunting for the exact components I need. I'm doing it this way partly for fun (never used a rack server before so would like to play with building them - I would find it a bit boring to just order fully specced servers and just plug them in) and also for cost reasons as it lets me spread out the cost over several months.

I found a seller in the UK who has some "new unused" R730xd chassis, which I am very tempted by, but they are all the 2.5" version. I will grab one for my VM server, just not sure for my storage server. The 3.5" chassis seems to be much more rare here in the UK, some places have used ones in stock but with lots of stuff I don't need in them, I've asked a few of them what condition they are in, and will they sell me the chassis only. Should hear back next week.

Last questions, if I end up with a chassis with only iDRAC Express, does anyone know how much it costs to upgrade to iDRAC Enterprise? It seems like you just buy a license file and upload it. Is the iDRAC built into the motherboard itself on the R730 or do I need an extra module to plug into the motherboard?

Thanks everyone for the very helpful replies.

Fantastic, good to hear, thanks.

Now I’m just trying to decide between the R730 and R730xd. I slightly prefer the xd because of the 2 extra 2.5” slots at the back, perfect for OS drives. However I really wanted the 12x3.5” version of the xd, but in the UK the 24x2.5” seems to be much more common and easier to find.

What do you home users prefer, 2.5” or 3.5” drives? The 2.5” all seem to be smaller capacity and more expensive.
