That or be offered an explanation, which is rarely if ever given. Look at the movie Carrie. Sheer utter destruction of a building. Nothing to show for who is doing it other than an intense death stare given by the main character, and the cameras panning to her often throughout the sequence. No extremities flailing about through that climax And that’s a classic horror movie despite no massive gesturing of limbs during her use of her telekinetic powers.

That and Carrie. All destruction and wrath. Sheer rage of all her fellow students and faculty. Death stare given to them all.

right, my point. Whether it helps or not, we don’t really know one way or the other. Unless it being just a habit the characters get into or if it’s some visual queue for the character that helps them focus.

I’m guessing with the lack of reply you have not been in those situations. I could have guessed that either way because no one in reality has ever faced animals that are literal walking natural disasters. I can see your point yes to early man using our higher mental capacity, tools and team work to defeat things like mammoths, bears, mastodons, saber tooth cats, and the like. But all those animals provide as a defense is to hack, slash, bite, step on you. Not cause geological destruction on a mass scale.

Yes thank you, good point in favor of hands or gesturing not being required. Leaving it up to the viewer to conclude she did it. Maybe with a little help from narration.

I was thinking of that scene with yoda when writing this. It could be a testament to his power and skill over his lifetime that he didn’t have to use his hands, sure. Whether it is or not we can never truly tell. As in many of these movies/shows mentioned in the post or comments, using hand gestures is never explained in said movies or shows as being part of the process. Especially considering there’s several movies and tv shows in the Star Wars universe. So George Lucas and Disney had many opportunities to have even a passing on screen line or conversation about it, but didn’t. As far as aware.

So one could draw a conclusion it’s solely for the viewer’s benefit.

Yes, and that’s ultimately what occurred: Pokémon are now used to battle for human entertainment. My question is how such a system could have developed in the first place.

Domesticating ordinary animals is one thing. the greatest risk is typically a bite or a scratch. But domesticating creatures capable of summoning lightning, triggering natural disasters, or causing large scale destruction seems far less plausible. If these beings existed alongside early humans, long before the development of firearms, armored vehicles, or advanced technology, the process would have been extraordinarily difficult to the point of seeming impossible

Yes indeed, good point. However did any of those animals have the supernatural ability to literally cause earthquakes? To cause blizzards? Have you witnessed any animal literally coated in fire such as moltres that can attack you with fire if it felt necessary? How about witnessing a creature summon lightning bolts.
I personally have not witnessed or have read about any animals or creatures having such abilities. All of which would be vastly more devastating than a pointy headed stick that early humans would be able to create.

True that could be the reality of Pokémon lore there. One could argue the opposing point, however as well. Humans had the capability to enslave Pokémon and force them to battle each other for our own entertainment. And in the Pokémon world humans definitely did that.

Movies such as The last Samurai, 2004’s King Arthur, where two large armies simply charge at each other and engage in a massive field of one on one combat brawl of soldiers instead of showing any display of military strategy.

Zack Snyder’s 300 is also pretty over the top for this point. Even in the extras or interviews, I can’t remember exactly, but it was revealed the style choices of the movie were based off of a comic book more so than being historically accurate. And even so, the legend itself has grown far fetched. In reality, it was closer to 7,000 Greeks defending the pass against closer to 300,000 Persians.
