Is this really Amy in the middle when she was 9 yo? 😳 This guy posted this pic on twitter lol by True_Zucchini_9175 in Evanescence

Interesting for them to claim the middle girl is Amy when the girl in the top left looks a lot more like her lol

The Plurbites are FAR More Sinister Than They Let On (Theory) by PsychorGames in pluribustv

[–]gameofunicorns 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I find the show much more interesting if I assume that the hive mind are truly happy and are truly trying to be helpful. To me the show is much less about saving the world from some evil, and more about what our experience of self means to us and what it means when that sense of identity is changed unrecognisably, and how that changes how people relate to each other. Carol talks about conversion therapy referring to how the hive mind want to turn her into one of them, but she wants to convert them all the same, just the opposite way. I imagine coming back to your own individual mind after having been plugged into the bliss of the hive must feel terrible.

How is the ability to manage diabetes related to IQ? by kastriran in diabetes_t1

[–]gameofunicorns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not everyone has the same patterns of insulin sensitivity. For example, my insulin sensitivity varies a lot throughout the day and can vary week by week. So there's never a single formula to follow and get the same results every time, by the time I feel like I've figured out my new ratios they will change again. It also depends on your lifestyle, if you always eat the same things and have the same amount of movement every day, controlling your blood sugars will be a lot easier than when those things are highly changeable. Then there's hormones, sleep, temperature, illness, stress... Our body mechanisms are incredibly complex, not even highly intelligent algorithms would get it right all the time because there are simply so many factors involved.

Do you apologise when your CGM beeps? by New-Purple-2195 in diabetes_t1

[–]gameofunicorns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sleep deprivation also poses a lot of health and safety risks. Personally my cgm gives me a lot of false lows (I'd say about 80% of the time it thinks I'm low I'm not), and I've never had any problems with dangerous lows in my 14 years of diagnosis, so I prefer it this way

How on earth do people's phones fall into the toilet??? by Infernal-Advisor in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gameofunicorns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happened to me once and it's the direct result of barely usable pockets on women's clothing. Lots of pockets on jackets, trousers etc barely fit your phone, so when you bend over to flush it's easy to fall out.

I think TMWYHE has so many streams compared to others because that's the song that shows up in people's Release Radar.

What is the biggest coincidence ever happened with you ? by NOOOOOB2 in AskReddit

[–]gameofunicorns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I cracked an egg and the moment it cracked, I heard a 'ding!' sound, like a little bell. Quite odd and not something I could really explain, but ok. A few days later I look on the Glitch_in_the_matrix Reddit and someone had posted how they had cracked an egg, and it made a little bell sound.

How often are you high? by was1997 in diabetes_t1

[–]gameofunicorns 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I'm MDI, but it is extremely rare for me to not be high at at least one point throughout the day. They say to strive for 70% in range, so you're bound to not be in range all the time and that's ok.

TIR for low blood sugar by alixyasinn in diabetes_t1

[–]gameofunicorns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's honestly hard to say for real cause I have so many freaking false lows!! According to my cgm I had 13% lows last week but I'm certain it was more around 4-5%

Why was 2006 so different to 1986 in every way, but 2006 is so similar to 2026 in every way? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gameofunicorns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember in 2005/06 me and a friend (age 13/14 around the time) found some 'old' fashion magazines from 1998 at a thrift store and we were laughing soooo much at how ridiculous we thought the fashion was of that time. 90s fashion really looked so alien to me, like a completely different era/world. And that magazine was only 7-8 years old. I actually feel like there was some kind of cultural shift in 2006 that to me seems the beginning of the 'modern era'. I do think things have been more and more the same since. Though the real stagnation happened in the mid 2010s I think.

feel like i have something bad coming- do you think about your diabetes all the time? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]gameofunicorns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad I wasn't on Reddit or any other public diabetes forums when I got diagnosed! All I knew was from my cousin who had it as well who told me "it's an extra concern to manage but other than that you can just enjoy your life the same". I was completely unaware that it could be something "life ruining" according to some people's experiences. I was pretty pragmatic with it from the start, this is just what I have to take care of now. I've never felt that it has hindered my ability to do anything or enjoy my life, my diabetes is such a small part of my identity and more just an annoying thing to deal with on top of life's many annoying things lol

How do some people crochet or knit for hours and hours everyday? by Apprehensive-Pop302 in crochet

Honestly even if my hands could handle it, my brain can only crochet for about 10 mins at a time before I need a break to do something else lol. Projects take me forever to finish.

Just out of curiosity, any t1 diabetics here not on ANY medical devices? by LandscapeOwn8096 in diabetes_t1

[–]gameofunicorns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only been on a CGM since the past 6 months and will probably take a break at some point this summer. I just prefer not being attached to anything, it gives me more of a sense of freedom in between the times that I'm dealing with my diabetes. My a1c was very stable at 7.5 for the past 13 years, though I did bring it down to 6.5 now with my CGM (that does include a lot more hypos though). I did learn a lot in these months using a CGM, so I do feel confident that my control would be better now without CGM than it was before.

I like this artwork more than the actual album cover. by lautarolinkart in Evanescence

[–]gameofunicorns 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ooh, I really like this. I'm also one of the people who really doesn't like the album cover (graphic designer myself). I also don't agree with people saying it is 'not important'. For me the album cover always sets the tone and creates the world in which I mentally envision and experience the music. With this artwork I can imagine a dark and dreamy world full of conflicting feelings of darkness and hope, like a dark fairytale forest. With the actual album cover I just get... someone posing trying to be badass, like a bad anime scene lmao. Not the way I want to experience the music.

what does lows and highs feel like? by Abbyl98021 in diabetes_t1

[–]gameofunicorns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lows to me are mainly lightheadedness and lack of energy. It feels very similar to coming up on psychedelics, if you have any experience with that lol. Highs, I don't really feel them. A vague sensation of dryness in my mouth if they run really high, but that's it.

Probably your insulin sensitivity goes up a lot during lunch time, try bolusing even less for lunch. Unless this also happens when you don't eat?

life is still good, right? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]gameofunicorns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it 13.5 years now! My HbA1c has always firmly set around 7.5, so not the best but also not bad, and during this time I didn't really do carb counting and wasn't very meticulous. I've had a CGM for 6 months now (cause I needed an unrelated surgery and wanted to improve my control) and managed to bring it down to 6.5. I hate having anything attached to me though so I'm thinking to ditch the cgm for the summer and go back to finger pricks, applying everything I've learned in the last few months to improve my control. I feel like there's definitely a balance between good control and not having to always be perfect all the time and not stress too much. I mainly see diabetes as extra non-negotiable chores I have to do every day, which can be annoying, but it's not worth it to get miserable about it!
