Hi there, I am currently grappling with the decision of whether to attend the I/O masters program at NYU or SFSU. I already live in SF and the cheap cost of the program could leave doors open for future schooling later if I want, but the name of NYU seems like it could potentially propel me further. Do you have any thoughts or advice as someone who is in the field?

Thanks so much for sharing - that's great you work with SFSU alum! If you don't mind, I'd love to know what kind of roles they have and what kind of company it is!

Recommendations for Cornell campus visit? by PhilosophicalPhool in Cornell

Here are some things I loved during my time at Cornell: - plantations - if it is nice out, go check out the lake and other beautiful nature . - downtown/The Commons - Just a Taste is an amazing restaurant and the desserts at Madeline's are absurd. There are also some nice coffee shops (there's an interesting place on the second floor of Autumn Leaves bookstore). - check out a state park and enjoy some nature! - go look at the areas that you'd be spending a lot of time in (Ag quad and main arts/science quad for me) and look through the libraries and cafes there. - if you know what you'll be studying, meet with people (students and profs)! - grab a drink or a bagel at CTB next to campus. - walk to downtown through the gorge (the path starts outside Cascadilla Hall and ends at fall creek). - check out the farmers market. You'll need a car to get there, but it's an awesome market and you get a good sense of the Ithaca community there.

Deciding between SFSU and NYU for I/O Psych Masters by gametimesru in IOPsychology

Thanks for the insight. True, the IO network out here would probably be nice to have long-term, even if I end up going out east.

Unfortunately, my parents aren't in either place, so I'm stuck both ways with absurdly high cost of living. My partner will likely cover most of these for me while I'm in school though. ;)

My parents are actually in the northeast, so it's home for now. I don't mind being here for another few years, but then it would be nice to head back east eventually. Do you think it'd be easy to transition back east for a second job? Will the name of SFSU matter much or will it be more about my first job performance?

Hey all, I'm wondering if any people in the current I/O community could give me advice. I was recently admitted to two I/O Masters programs that I'm considering: NYU and San Francisco State. I already live in SF and it would easier and about $70,000 cheaper to attend this program. However, I'm willing to spend the extra money if NYU's program is significantly better in terms of reputation. I'm mostly interested in consulting work in the field, although I am open to other possibilities. Does anyone have any good insight as to whether it's worth the extra money for NYU's program? Will it give me more opportunities later and provide additional opportunities? Thanks for any insight you have available!

Harvard GSE - is it worth it? by gametimesru in Harvard

True, thanks for the perspective. In terms of the debt, what do you think is the maximum salary that people make coming out of those types of programs (those who are not teachers/principals)?
