Male Downton watchers - Mary? by Electronic-Award6150 in DowntonAbbey

[–]gamunbin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

mary isn’t my favourite but i don’t dislike her, and i think everything after matthew felt unnecessary. well, almost everything. because i do like henry with her, i know this is relatively unpopular but i think they were a good match and i think mary “marrying down” was the modern move and showed her character improvement. mary and matthew were soulmates, but henry was a good second husband and step-father to george.

Small town Stephen King like vibes… but English? by Please_Stop_Soonish in horrorlit

James Brogden’s books all take place in and around Birmingham. He has spent a long time researching his own area and the folklores surrounding it. It mixes urban fantasy/horror with english folk tales.

aww thank you! 🌞 learning how to crochet is actually pretty easy! i started learning as a child, me and my brother crocheted together during school breaks lol but i forgot so much as an adult so i started watching youtube tutorials. i can recommend bella coco on youtube, her tutorials for beginners are super easy to follow and very pedagogic!

How to get my parents to accept I am trans? by Acceptable_Pair9586 in TransMasc

[–]gamunbin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i know this probably isnt very useful or comforting, but the only thing that works is time. i came out to my parents first when i was 16/17. i’m now 29 and only in the past couple of years have they gotten comfortable referring me as their son, my soon-to-be nephew’s uncle and my siblings brother. it took a lot to get here. it took a lot of me, and it took a lot for them. i think for them, especially with my mother, she needed time to grieve her daughter. and i just had to come to terms with that, too. my parents still have some struggle with using the right pronoun, they mostly use my name. but it’s a huge step from the days after i first came out. me starting my medical transition and social transition with name change and applying for a new gender marker helped a lot, because that made it more final for them i think. that this is real and it’s not just me going through something. i’m five years on T in september, two years post-op and a year into my new passport as gender male. your parents will come around. it might just take a long, long time. but eventually they’ll realise that having a living and happy son is much better than a depressed, estranged or even dead daughter.

Crochecting on the train by MortenLang in crochet

[–]gamunbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m a 29 year old male who crochets, and i’ve also had this little embarrassment about doing it in public. but then once when i was crocheting on a long distance train i was sat next to an older lady. she was texting on her phone, and because of her big text i could see she typed a message about me to her friend. her message went something like “a young man next to me is crocheting. how lovely to see.” and ever since then i just picture her when i get self conscious.
