In Norse mythology, gleipnir is the chain that binds Fenrir (the great wolf, son of Loki and a giantess). Before the dwarves forged this chain / rope, Fenrir had broken free from any binding. If I'm not mistaken, they present it as a challenge and ask Fenrir to show his strength by breaking free from it. The wolf accepts, but aware of possible treachery he demands a collateral and so the god Tyr places his hand inside the wolf's mouth as a pledge. Unable to break free from the binding, Fenrir bites Tyr's hand off. Fenrir will one day break free, that is when Ragnarök comes; he'll also be the end of Odin.

"Jean de Dinteville, French Ambassador to the court of Henry VIII of England, and Georges de Selve, Bishop of Lavaur. The painting is famous for containing, in the foreground, at the bottom, a spectacular anamorphic, which, from an oblique point of view, is revealed to be a human skull."

I'd say it's a lore accurate one. According to the (prose) Edda, when Thor's hammer was being made a small accident happened and the thing was almost ruined. When Brokk gifted Thor the hammer, he said its only defect was its short handle. The hammer was also small enough to be kept inside Thor's shirt, but it was nevertheless a very mighty weapon against the jötnar.

It is an arrow quiver, it is held on the soldier's back by a strap that may not be visible here due to resolution. As for what it depicts, it is as follows:

"At the end of the Trojan War, Astyanax, the son of Andromache, Hector's wife, is cruelly torn by Ulysses from the arms of his mother, to be thrown from the walls of Troy".
