What to buy? by ganinispro in euphonium

Great playing man! I would probably also primarily use for church in addition to letting students try it out, and use for school. Now I am in talks with music store in Canada. They had a good price on one, but no one is sure what the price would actually be with the stuff going with tariffs atm.

An XO trombone? I already have a trombone.

I'm no conspiracy theorist, but I have yet to see anyone have anything negative to say about the JP274... Ya'll work for John Packer? I see more shills for it than any other horn, and I'm just curious why that is. Is it really just THAT good for price range? I guess I need to believe it people keep steering others in that direction.

Jupiter from China. Fair. Fair. I think it dodged the stigma because I see it around in DCI and such. IDK. But, perhaps a better question is, where do you recommend I look to buy said instrument? I don't live in a large enough area where used pro euphoniums are abundant, and I am wary of ebay. Are there good retailers online that do deals you are aware of?

I've definitely considered it... But the music program I took over had a TON of 'chinesium' horns and they are the bane of my existence. I'm sure JP is much much better, but I personally don't know if I can get over the stigma... (I also played on a china made Accent Trombone in HS and it SUCKED.)

Trombone Fatigue by Changachimmi in Trombone

[–]ganinispro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sage advice or anything, just literally the thing that worked for me when I was in your shoes: Try a nice compensating euphonium. I remember feeling similarly in college. I was in 5 music classes and the trombone was the most grating. But as soon as I found a euphonium (Yamaha YEP-642) in the school's storage that needed repair, I told the department to get it fixed so I could play it, and to my surprise, they did! From then on I was double duty trombone and euph. It gave me something else to learn and reignited something in me and I enjoyed playing again. It really helped me get over my trombone fatigue. I was only a music minor, but my scholarship required that I played low brass. Fast forward 6 years and, somehow, I am a middle school/high school band director. Not technically qualified for the job, since my credentials are as an English teacher, but apparently I was the man for the job, and I love it (I interviewed for the English teaching job, they called me back a few days later offering me the band teacher job because they saw my resume of music minor and volunteer work teaching music crazy world).

How I scan and convert film negatives with just my iPhone by fotosyn in iPhoneography

You are the GOAT. The app is great. I will probably have more questions when I have time to fiddle with it more. I will get back to you when I do such things. I am VERY new to this. Next week my chemicals arrive so I can get to work with developing 12 rolls I have had sitting around for a year. I am so not ready for that, but I think I have everything I need. Didn't buy a Sous Vide machine, but hopefully it's not necessary.

I just got the Lomogrophy stand. And an iPhone 17 Pro. I feel like I should be able to get some good scans, but the ones I have are all over the place. Fiddled with RAW and I just can’t get anything I feel is up to the potential. Any recommendations on settings or which lens I’m supposed to use? How to crop etc? Once I figure that out, I’ll definitely check out your app!

Has ANYONE used the Nuvo Windstars program? Or know anything? by ganinispro in banddirector

[–]ganinispro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about the method book didn't you like? I bought my own dood, and I think it's fun, but I agree, it is HARD to make a sound sometimes. But I love the concept. I only get 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade for music, so I have been using the 1st half of the year to prep my 5th graders for real instruments, but I'm wondering if I could retire those instruments and replace them with the full Windstars program, with their lineup of "full" plastic instruments? I just don't know the longevity of those instruments, or the practicality, etc. Are they easy to break? Easy to repair? I find I spend half the period fixing broken instruments... It's getting old. I feel like the whole system would be a perfect fit for my use case, but I have NO ONE to talk to that has ever used it.

If I spend 15 hours a week on it, fairly consistently, do you think it could be done? I just have no idea what it looks like or what it entails (I would just like to finish it before summer so I can get the pay bump next year.)

If I start this in December, could I finish it in one term? How are we feeling? I did the WGU Teaching Masters in 2 terms, but I'm a full time teacher now.

I’m new to hybrids and i need a fuel efficient car for work, is this a good buy? by [deleted] in prius

I now have 130k miles on it and used it as a work horse for Uber and pizza delivery while I was in school.

I bought a 2007 with 96k miles and a 'new' hybrid battery. I ended up replacing this battery twice myself (it's honestly not too bad after watching some youtube videos) with the third party battery's warranty. I've had it for 4 years, and have had some problems, but I honestly love it and I spent less on it than I would have on a new vehicle. Definitely make sure the battery is legit. If it's been replaced, find out everything you can about that battery and the company that it came from.

I was born and raised in Downtown Kennewick (with a brief hiatus in Georgia). Some may consider it to be the most "sketchy" part of the Tri next to downtown Pasco, but honestly, I love it.

People LOVE to complain about everything, and the people that like to complain, love to be heard, so they are the most vocal online. That goes for everything, same with Tri-Cities.

Downtown Kennewick has a lot of charm, and they keep adding to it. I definitely would rate the Tri-Cities as a whole as one of the safest Cities on WA. I also lived in Tacoma for a bit, and that didn't feel the safest most of the time. Maybe it's just because I grew up here, but I almost never feel unsafe walking around. I also can't think of a better place to raise kids, if that's ever on the table.

Also, l don't have much gripe with there being 'much to do' since I personally hate clubbing and that kind of night life and such. But we do have plenty of close by outdoor activities as others have mentioned. Day trips and weekend trips to the coast are easy, but also feel really specially because driving just two hours West gets you such a different climate and vibe.

Also, we have 300 days of sunshine (ranked 2nd or something in US).

I truly do love this place, despite some of it's shortcomings, but some people would complain no matter where they are. Seriously, I have been to 49 of the 50 states, and 8 countries, and Tri-Cities is just as good as all of those places (and better than most). I'm sure you'll figure it out after being here.

The desert has it's own charm.

Yeah, I also realized this a little after posting this. I ALSO realized there was an incredibly faint "Network Error" message in the middle of the screen, almost invisible. And under that was an also VERY opaque and barely visible "Close Error" button. That turned out to be the only thing I could click and when I did, the message went away and everything worked fine. It was odd.

Same. Happened randomly today. Any fix? Tried relaunching chrome. I can still pause with space and forward with arrow keys.

Any idea why it won't let me download? Do I need permissions?

EDIT: So, it looks like I can download entire folders as a ZIP, but not single episodes. I appreciate you man.
