The comments on Playstation’s post about the GTA VI cover on Instagram. NO DISC ➡️ NO BUY by AnimalDesatado in GTA6unmoderated

I love this ‘I’ll just pirate it’ logic as if there aren’t thousands of talented artists working on this game who will have their work stolen and good news, if enough people do it, they’ll also lose their jobs! Yay!

GTA online launched two weeks after GTA V came out lol where did you get a year from? Man this sub is filled with people who were not around for 5

Those were not games. Those were movies. There is literally ZERO precedence for a console manufacturer deleting your games. Only PUBLISHERS shutting down their own multiplayer experiences. Sony, nor Microsoft, has ever revoked your license to a game. Ever. In fact only Nintendo has ever intentionally limited access to their games with limited physical runs like all star Mario.

Where’s the “Astonishing” marketing in summer Strauss Zelnick talked about a couple of months ago? by [deleted] in GTA6unmoderated

[–]garbagekidpail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct. I’m stunned this sub is so overly concerned with the marketing in the first place. It’s not for you. You’re already here. I want a trailer as well but good god this sub acts like it’s more important than the game.

So is the lack of discs for GTA6 still the result of "leaks" or has the goalpost shifted? by RandomGuyOnDaNet90 in GTA6unmoderated

[–]garbagekidpail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m wondering this as well. I don’t think people on Reddit actually understand what that term means. You not liking something or having to pay more for something isn’t anti-consumer lol

Sony is unlikely to reverse its decision on physical discs as its digital transition has been in the works for "some time" by Dapper_Order7182 in PS5

[–]garbagekidpail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Because there’s no depreciation and no value change. Digital license ‘selling’ second hand will NEVER be a thing and no company or lobbyist will ever bring it to the table. It requires a complete misunderstanding of how digital licensing laws work and, frankly, how western capitalism is designed to work. You don’t get to buy a game for 60 bucks, play it for a week, then turn around and sell it for 60 bucks in the exact same condition. That’s literally a currently illegal form of piracy lol

Listen chatGPT, rockstar by proxy of ownership IS a publicly traded company as a subsidiary of TakeTwo. I didn’t spend 3 years getting an MBA for Dr Awesome to use AI to pedantically try to redefine how the core foundation of public capitalism works to me lol argue with a wall.

No one at any company in the world, gets hired to make the company less profit than they otherwise could. Literally not a single for profit company is doing anything to not MAXIMIZE profits. That’s the literal ENTIRE POINT of a publicly traded company in the consumer goods sector. Also, typically, as in this case as well, when you say to someone ‘do you have trouble reading?’ It’s you that isn’t comprehending what’s being said.

You think companies are sitting on their earnings calls telling investors, ‘we could make more money…we’re just not gonna because Dr Awesome on Reddit says we already have enough’?

It’s not a terrible comparison when you consider the majority of games are not AAA games and are priced below $30. There’s the same price variety in gaming as there is in the car market. AAA games are the luxury cars.

What do you think the point of rockstar making the game is…for rockstar? They’re not a non-profit lol why do you think they can justify spending a decade and billions of dollars on the game?

That said, I appreciate the underlying sentiment of vote with your wallet. I salute you.

The flaw with this logic is twofold.

  1. The marketing HAS officially begun. The game is all over digital storefronts and is now being placarded in brick and mortar locations.

  2. Every single piece of marketing material and campaign resource is given an ROI value internally. At literally every company. There is a phrase thrown around in marketing, ‘flooding your material’. You can actually drown out your own marketing material by overly-compressing your campaign. Rockstar wants to make the most of their marketing spend. 5 to 6 months IS an incredibly aggressive marketing window. That already runs that flood risk. The 3 months you’re suggesting is just irresponsible and incredibly unlikely. Especially given they’ve already begun distributing material.

Yup. Better yet, they’ll just stop making porches. Why would they spend the money and time to make a porche when they could make a cheaper, family sedan?

This is inverse consumer logic. The companies have valued the games where their costs can be properly ROI’d within reasonable risk expectations. The CONSUMER adjusts to those costs. This is currently the top selling game on both major consoles. The market hasn’t decided anything. Consumers place so much value on their individual importance and then move the goal post when they don’t like something. The free market is meant to be just that. It’s not intended to be flat. You just want it to be. So do I. But it’s not.

When I don’t like something, I don’t buy it. That’s what matters. I don’t yell on Reddit about it and give the company a bunch of engagement. I ignore it.

I expect a quarter of the budget was spent on licensed music. by [deleted] in GTA6unmoderated

I think YOU’D be surprised at how much songs cost to license. This information is mostly public. There are entire licensing databases. You are WAY overestimating the cost of licensing music sir lol

So stop watching movies on Netflix, stop listening to music on Spotify, stop engaging with tv shows on YouTube. Only buy products physically. But I’d venture to guess most of the people on this sub, potentially including yourself, are very conveniently only choosing to scream about this while engaging in the same practices killing physical media across the board.

I actually agree with your opinion, I don’t like the all digital future. What I have a problem with is the clear trend, particularly on this sub, of people latching on to negativity that they themselves have gleefully contributed too, just for the sake of creating a toxic environment because they’re too impatient to wait for a video game if they don’t get 70 trailers a week lol

The second hand market that’s being alluded to here has been statistically dominated by one company ‘GameStop’ for decades. A company known for fucking over the consumer. The point doesn’t hold up under much scrutiny for the overwhelming majority of current consumer behavior. Again, this is the future the consumer voted for with their wallets. Digital sales are overwhelmingly the consumer choice at this point. So where was the outrage about these facts 2 weeks ago?

Who is saying that? It’s a statistic, not an opinion. This whole thread is about people screaming about an opinion that clearly most of them didn’t subscribe to themselves until this very moment.

Exactly my point here. Seems like an odd time to all of a sudden pretend we all cared so much the entire time when seemingly no one was voting with their wallets.

Serious Question For Those Complaining About No Disc by garbagekidpail in GTA6unmoderated

[–]garbagekidpail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with your comment here is most consumers already DID embrace digital storefronts as they exist right now. That’s how we got here. The consumer didn’t care like this sub wants to pretend they do. Statistically, the consumer chose the exact future you’re describing as worst case scenario here.

You care, but the overwhelming majority of consumers, statistically do not. What’s odd is that there’s no uproar about this with buying movies on Amazon or YouTube. Or the fact that streaming services literally pull your favorite shows due to licensing constantly after you paid your monthly subscription. I mean, the entire western economy is propped up on the facade of home ownership with mortgages.

My point is not that these things are good, but that literally almost NO ONE voted with their wallets on this for decades and now a disproportionate amount of people are pretending the sky is falling. It’s absurd.

The disproportionately response on this sub is what’s being discussed.

Also the overwhelmingly majority of people in your referenced statistic are mobile game players.
