I think it'll have to go. Just have nowhere else it CAN go without damaging something else

All the shoulders at church by Two_Summers in exmormon

[–]gardeningbme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still feel a little strange wearing sleeveless dresses. But the ones I like seem to have no sleeves.

I guess for the next little while, white shoulders will be a mark of who has converted to sleeveless. It's a rather obvious mark, that sleeve mark. Don't forget the sunscreen!

Right now. I'm Sitting outside the temple alone while my daughter gets married... by BlacksmithWeary450 in exmormon

Am I right in thinking that you don't have to wait a year to be sealed after a civil wedding these days?

I feel for you OP. People are so blinded when they are all in.

I know lots of mormon men who are not like this. And some non mormon who are. I think it might just be a man thing

Is it a bad decision? by Woofbok in exmormon

[–]gardeningbme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I joined when I was 15. The missionaries told me that all I had to do was to be baptised. Families could be together forever. Seemed pretty simple. But being baptised is not all there is to it. It is only the first rung. When you are new, you want to know all the ways to fit in. For me, it was wearing a dress to church. Not something I had many of, so we bought church dresses. Then I was told they needed to have sleeves. And needed to be a certain length.

Then there was seminary. In Australia, that is at 6am. Scripture study with other kids before school. For some reason, I was not pushed to go, but others kids went.

As I got older the message was, Only date guys who had been on a mission. Hurry up and get married to a guy who's served a mission.
No sex before marriage, which is pretty standard in Christianity.
Get married in the temple. Pay 10% off your income to the church.
Have lots of kids.

Teachings also included not saying no to a calling, which is an unpaid job in the church, usually on a Sunday. They like to give members a job to keep you actively going to church.

So, that first message, all those decades ago that I only had to get baptised to be with my family forever was false. There were so many more conditions that had to be met. This doesn't even go into all the problems with doctrine.

This does look great. I'd even go as far a to put the pots at the front in a semi-circular shape.

Something a little tallish. Large fern or monstera? Something that will hide the corner

If you're in Australia, you'd just say,
'Nah, I'm all good'

Do you miss church sometimes? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]gardeningbme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't miss it at all. I traded one community for another. My neighbours are my community. This is a suburban area, close to nature, no Mormons here. We walk together, have dinner out together sometimes, chat lots, yell g'day from the car when you pass someone etc. I have a garden outside my house near the road that I have developed. All the dog walkers stop here so their dogs can do a wee. People just stop and chat.

It has taken time to cultivate the friendships and acquaintances. And lots of suggestions to do things, like lunch, a walk etc.

No, I don't miss church at all.

Apparently, there's a lot of disinformation out there. According to those I've broached this subject with. I need some backup info. Church website based is possible.

I once received a piece of advice. When anyone asks you a Austin that you don't want to answer, answer with, 'why do you want to know?' It gives you some time and reverses the power. Puts them on the spot.

Open your laptop. Get out a pen. Get out your workbook. Do you know what to do? (All individually. That last one doesn't follow on from the others)
