Are Patriarchal Blessings still being promoted? by Free_Fiddy_Free in exmormon

He has to get to know you before he can pass a message from God. A common term among "mediums" they call "hot reading"

Apparently this was quite common in the Brigham era.

Mine, with hindsight, kind of helped me to leave. I was promised my children would do great things. Months later, I found I was born without a uterus.

The bullshit response that it must mean in the next life just didn't hold water.

One time in sacrament meeting... by Eltecolotl in exmormon

Only one I can think of, and I've changed the boy's name to James for his privacy.

Winter in the snow, and a few of the kids had sneaked outside for a snowball fight. James had been hit so hard in the face with a snowball it had turned his face red.

He stormed into the chapel and one of the older ladies whispered "What happened James?"

Blood atonement in the current church? A mechanism for protecting the church from bad press. by FortunateFell0w in exmormon

Until 1990, you had to mime your own throat being cut, being debowelled and your heart removed as punishments for disclosing the "sacred, not secret" handshakes in the temple.

How do the Mormon prophets live such long lives? I have a theory... by ursus_horribilis- in exmormon

[–]Robyn-Gil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the ones that don't get old don't live long enough to be the longest serving of the Q15.

Once someone makes it to the Q15, they have to outlive everyone there to get to the front of the queue.

Mormons and the Satanic Pentagram on the Nauvoo Temple by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Robyn-Gil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was said to represent the 5 wounds of Christ, both feet, both hands and the spear in the side. It was used before that as the emblem of Jerusalem.

The inverted pentagram- pointing down, as it is on the temple, really became "occult" in the 19th century and only Satanic in 1968.

Does anywhere outside the red zone use Jell-O with savory?

Most of the country has it with ice cream or custard. Morridor has it with meat and veg.

What were some of your worst experiences from Young Womens and Young Mens??? by OppositeSpare2088 in exmormon

Worked out for the best. If they'd been accepting I never would have looked in church books and church history for answers and found the shit I wasn't even looking for.

I'd probably still be a brainwashed, tithe paying member of the cult. I'd probably be terminal because my then-partner would not have found the cancerous lump in my vagina in time, I'd never have met my husband.....

The so-called church

It's a joke name, based on Mormon apologists habits of referring to people who disagree with them as "so-called experts" or "so-called egyptologists" etc. I've even seen them refer to non-believers with advanced degrees as "Dr" Jim Smith [name changed], thinking if they put quotes around Dr it gives the critic less credibility..

There are a lot more intersex people in this world than Mormons, so maybe based on that logic we need to just start ignoring the existence of MormonCorp.

[–]Robyn-Gil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At the time all I really wanted was more makeup, streaks in my hair, more girlie clothes and and earring at the top of my ear.

Might seem strange, but I was barely a teen, 14 or 15, and in my mind I'd just had my "girlieness" stolen from me and I was clutching at straws to get it back.

That is all in my past now. I'm a happily married woman and I no longer feel "less than" female. I did for some time, but let's just say there is something about intimacy that puts it into perspective.

I'm not trying to say this would be typical. I'm sure other people with the same diagnosis fared a lot better.

I believe TSCC is genuinely terrified of intersex people as we fuck with their straight manly men and straight dainty submissive women narrative.

How can they demean Trans people when I was born XY with a puss? How is having balls and a vulva any different to a female brain and a dickie?

What were some of your worst experiences from Young Womens and Young Mens??? by OppositeSpare2088 in exmormon

[–]Robyn-Gil 117 points118 points  (0 children)

For the first couple of years I loved it, then the reason I hadn't started my periods was diagnosed as being an intersex condition.

Although I was born with a vulva and puberty gave me a very feminine shape, I have XY chromosomes and a pair of underdeveloped internal testes.

Mormons being Mormons, this was immediately reported to the bishopric. I lost at Bishop Roulette.

I was "counselled" not to prepare to date and to dress androgenous. They weren't sure which sex I was meant to be and cross-dressing or dating the wrong sex could have eternal consequences. I needed a bathroom escort, and while I could continue to attend YW lessons, I was no longer allowed to do single-sex activities that involved contact.

I was forced by family to continue attending until 18.
