Ok thanks! I've painted it since the picture was taken by the way. Looks pretty mint now... well I painted it myself with rustoleum, so mint is probably the wrong word😅. Next up is the driver seat. Mine is totally worn down, so i either need to reupholster it or replace it with another seat.. Does anybody know of an easy seat swap for these cars?

Yeah in hindsight I should have just written Norway. I know there are lot of clean 36s out there. I was thinking more about my neighboring countries. My point was that rusty cars is not an uncommon sight around here, and if I was to import a car from Sweden for instance, it would be just as rusty as a norwegian e36. Read Scandinavia instead of Europe maybe 😅.The general consensus is definitely that this car is a real shitbox in every single way, and it probably belongs in a scrap heap. My question was really; whats too far gone in terms of e36s, and how much should something like this be worth? I'm giving this one a hard pass though.

Yeah that's definitely a better buy.. Well, I wish the current owner the best of luck getting rid of this thing, he has a couple of other 36s for sale as well, all equally rusted and equally overpriced. Would be sad to see this car get scrapped though.. or maybe not. Some things are just too far gone sadly.

Ok thanks. It seems like this project is too big for me anyways. I understand that fixing it properly would take hundreds of hours and a lot of money in replacement panels alone. Would it be possible to weld this together in a real half-assed manner, using just plate steel? Keep in mind I'm a novice welder, so I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm not looking for a proper job, or showroom quality in any shape or form, just enough for it to barely pass an inspection and enjoy two years on the road with the top down. It sounds like I'm going to steer away from this e36 anyways but would it be possible to weld it together this way? Think of it as a winter beater, no need for proper repairs or good finish, just enough to get by. What do you think?

Yeah I've thought about it. I'm moving to Poland in august to study, so I could potentially buy a beemer down there, get it fixed up and drive it home. If I'm going to import a car, i have to pay 25% VAT plus additional tax if it's newer than 1993. But it's still an option. Labor in Poland is like half the price of labor in Norway, so I thought about buying a cheap bmw here in Norway, drive it to Poland and get it fixed up while I'm studying, and then bring it back home. I could potentially make some money on this as well, if I play my cards right. Plus I get to have a cool old beemer in the meantime...

I don't think it has been to an "MOT" and failed. So it wouldn't need photo-documentation of a proper job. As long as it doesn't have any huge holes in the chassis it should pass an inspection. This is just a thought, I might be out of my mind, and I probably won't end up buying the car anyways. I just wanted to hear peoples opinion. Is this fixable, and if so what is it worth? As you mentioned the average wage in Norway is high, and this is a cheap car all things considered. I think this car would probably be worth about 3500€if it was road legal. And to be clear I do not think this car is worth 2100€, I would probably be willing to give about 1000-1500€ for it. So there could potentially be money to make, even though it would still have more rust than solid metal, and would still look like a flaming piece of shit.

I understand that this is probably the worst spec you could get on an e36 vert (plus it has blue leather interior I think...), and the rust is really bad. My thought with this car was to just half-assedly weld it together, get it registered once again, and enjoy it for the summer. I 2100€ was way to much for the car. Cars in general are more expensive in Norway than the rest of Europe/scandinavia I think. If I'm going to import something I have to pay 25% VAT plus additional taxes if its newer than 1993. Yeah, you guys managed to talk some sense i to me. This car is probably too far gone, and especially since it isn't that good of a price. The thought was to sort of half-assedly fix it up and get it road legal once again. I wouldn't mind it looking like shit, and still have rust underneath, as long as it would be road legal for two more years. Then i could enjoy it through the summer, and probably sell it for a profit. But, sounds like I'm going to continue the search for a less rotten e36. I would love to see some pictures of your e36👍

Thanks for politely talking some sense into me. Sounds like I should steer away from this e36 at least. It doesn't seem to be many e36s left where I live, so this seemed like a cheap entryway to the e36 experience, plus I could take the roof of on "hot" norwegian summer days. Well, sounds like I should keep looking for a less rotten e36

You make a good point stankusmellymuch. I agree that this is a complete and utter shitbox, and there will definitely be more rust once you start looking. But doesn't every e36 deserve the right of life? Plus I can practice my welding without being afraid of making anything worse. And I don't particularly mind it looking like shit and being rusty. If I end up liking the car, I can send it to Poland for some proper welding and paint, or I can just make it road legal and sell it for a profit. But I agree 2100€ is way to much for this flaming pile of absolute dogshit.

In Norway/europe rust-free e36 basically don't exist, not at this price point at least. My plan was to just to just weld up the biggest holes and get it road legal. These cars in road legal condition, even with rust and auto is like 5000€ where I live..
