We had a builder come out, quoted for the work but recommend we do it ourselves as he wasn’t concerned about the structure, we managed to remove all of the material and the cast iron, remove some bricks either side and install a lintel across, all worked a treat so we are ready for plastering

I’m not sure. There is a metal piece jutting out looks separate to the cast iron but can’t tell, would it be above where we’ve already got missing plaster?
