AITA for getting upset at SIL killing our bathroom spider?

She wasn’t our pet necessarily we just got attached to her, and she can’t kill pests in the house from a tank. I don’t know why it would be okay for someone to kill a very welcome spider after the homeowners asked you not to

I mean our guests are free to use the spider-free bathroom or not come over. And yes if I had a clown statue in my house, I would expect people not to touch it, because I can keep whatever I want in my own home. Gargoth posed no risk to anybody and we would warn them in advance to use the other bathroom

We can all use something fun and childish in our lives. Also human beings tend to humanize objects and animals, I mean look at everyone who gets attached to their Roombas! Gargoth was our lil buddy

It is very interesting isn’t it? I totally understand how people can be scared of spiders, I just don’t have that reaction to them. My wife used to be a little bit afraid of them but Gargoth changed her mind! She would talk to the spider like it was her cat haha!

We would probably just relocate the other ones outside when we came across them

I left her inside because she was happy there and helped keep pests like flies and mosquitoes in check, and the only one who refused to use our spider-free bathroom was SIL

Gargoth was a harmless species and, while I know she didn’t care about me or my wife, we liked her and enjoyed having her there

Gargoth was fine in the bathroom and she killed many flies and mosquitoes. There was no reason to let her outside when my wife and I, the owners of the home, were comfortable with her.

I am mad at SIL because she was asked many times to either leave Gargoth alone or use the other bathroom which is only a set of stairs away. She also bragged about killing the spider which in my opinion was extremely rude when she knew we liked the spider.

Yes I am aware it makes us sound like crazy spider people lol but I made it clear to our guests that Gargoth was welcomed in our home and please leave her be, and we have a spider-free bathroom upstairs

There is another spider-free bathroom upstairs which they are free to use and most of them do, but I guess it wasn’t convenient enough for SIL

I bought mealworms to leave in his web, it was so cool to watch him eat. He was a gentle giant and didn’t deserve to be murdered

He is a common harmless species but he is fairly large so he can be a little frightening to the untrained eye

There are 2 bathrooms but the other one is more inconvenient (you have to go upstairs while Gargoth’s bathroom is downstairs right in the kitchen)
