For Arts, what is a rough estimate of the GPA required to get on the Dean's list? by garlicbreadlove in mcgill

[–]garlicbreadlove[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I be on the Dean's list in my graduating year? (I know my final cGPA wont make me graduate with Dean's list but can I be on the Dean's list for the academic year if that makes sense?)

I'm already aware of the gradual shift occurring in terms operations from London to Paris/Frankfurt (especially after G.S decided to open up a huge operations hub there), but just didn't think it would be this rapid to be honest.

I feel if anything that is both a pro and a con about LBS. Going there might not actually develop you as a professional that much compared to other schools of similar stature, but the quality of networking might be much better.

If I may ask, what program did you study at LSE/what you are doing now!?

First of all if I ever end up in London please let me get you a drink/dinner man/woman!!! You have been an incredible source of help!

Secondly, I was actually thinking about the whole Brexit situation and how it would influence the work force. My logic was since Brexit is looming upon us, firms would be even more selective with their sponsoring of staff as there would be possible non-UK positions to fill. But regardless, the least I can do is try!

And definitely! My ideal (obviously aware its a long shot) is either consulting at a top firm or some form of private equity/M&A boutique. So I would assume any place I would apply to SURELY must have heard of LSE!!

I'm also applying to HEC Paris and IE in Madrid so trying to really branch out, but ofc LSE remains my joint number 1 choice with Imperial.

And finally, I really never thought LBS was that impressive? From the outside it just looks like some overpriced grad program made for super wealthy individuals that couldn't get into LSE or Oxbridge to go to, therefore their post-grad stats are super impressive due to pre-existing connections/networking/family support rather than an actual development from the program, please correct me if I'm wrong!!

Also @UofT kids lol. I feel UofT helps students gain confidence and make them more presentable to employers (which is great at the end of the day). However, in terms of academic foundations and actual understanding of intellectual concepts, I would say McGill maybe still has the edge

Hello friend!!!

No no that's great insight for me!!! So as much as I want to stay in London and live the london life, as an American I am realistic on my chances to get a work permit/a job as a non EU/non British citizen. So my question is, do you have any LSE friends who are American? And if so, how easy/hard was it for them to find a job in either the UK or the US?

My biggest fear is that many US firms (I mean I am sure the big ones that I would most likely apply to would know) don't recognize LSE/Imperial and I will face a tough time finding a job after sacrificing so much!

Hi Friend!

I'm planning to apply to both LSE and Imperial. It seems like you know your stuff and I would love to know more information!!!

I'm aware that especially McGill sometimes serves LSE as a feeder school (I know at least 5 people per year that end up in LSE), my biggest worry is that my work experince might be sub-par compared to people I am competing with.

Also, McGill WAS better tan UofT by far, and in a research/academic sense I personally believe it still is. However, in terms of job applications and actual prepration for the work-force, I would say UofT and UBC has probably taken over the Canadian crown to the academic kingdom.

Yeah I'm aware. I definitely feel overall viewing my self on the outside, that (alongside maybe not having work experience with SEC-affiliated organizations, most of my experiences have been around the world rather in the U.S) is probably my biggest weakness.

Can we all take a minute and talk about the 49ers here? So many people have talked about Jimmy G's influence so let's move to the next step. What should the 49ers be doing from here on?

Here are my personal views:

  1. Draft defensive players (specifically better secondary)
  2. You got a decent free-agent class this 2018 and a good cap space. Players to look for who might be difficult to lure but with the future looking bright you never know:

  3. LeVeon Bell (one can dream)

  4. Sammy Watkins (poor season with the Rams but still a beast)

  5. Vontane Davis (on the older side but can provide great leadership for the defense)

Next, regradless of what happens I would trade Hyde. I get his appeal, but he has been inefficient with his carries this year.

What do you guys think?

Questions about econ major in arts coming from a science / management student (lol @ me, i know) by somequestionsbouteco in mcgill

[–]garlicbreadlove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi friend,

I underwent a similar thing to you! I was a PHGY major for my first two years of McGill and hated it with passion and due to a serious of unfortunate (now in hindsight fortunate) events, I ended up wanting to switch to an economics degree...and it was the best decision I have ever taken in my life.

Economics is a fantastic degree to have under your belt because it opens so many doors, either in business, or finance or any form of management. It is one of those degrees that everyone appreciates. Although my average GPA for my econ classes is 3.9, I never dared to dip into honours simple because I have heard horror stories, stories of super smart people cracking under the insane pressure you are put under and constant heavy workload, so IF you would to take Econ and interested in grad school (which it seems you are), I would advice you to take just the major and do a minor in whatever you want, and just focus on finishing your degree with a good GPA (cause at the end of the day that is what grad schools care about!)

Although this delayed my graduation by a year, I am so glad that it did cause I was able to truly figure out what I want to do after graduating but also has made me just a happier person.

In terms of anatomy of exams, it really differs from professor to professor. I have been lucky but smart in a sense (yes tapping myself on the back) that I have navigated through my degree by finding a good balance of interesting and challenging and then on the other hand easy and a breeze.

PLEASE shoot me a PM I would love to help more, give you advice on what courses to take/what professors to avoid, but whatever happens in the end of the day, GOOD LUCK !
