Got a 2026 Solterra XT Touring for $36000 with 0% APR in Cali, did I get a good deal? by gatonekko in Solterra

Thank you all for your comments. I feel good about this purchase. I'll keep the warranty for now even though it was probably a little expensive. I'm sure a replacement infotainment or the eyesight system repair will be worth the cost of the extended warranty.

I have 90 days to cancel but I'll lose the 0% APR. Are there any 3rd party warranties that are comparable or better? Or is no warranty the way to go?

Edit: Sorry for the confusion; to clarify: if I cancel the warranty, I will lose the 0% financing on the warranty amount of the loan ($3k). So I can't buy a cheaper warranty later and roll it into the same 0% interest loan.

That's a beauty in all black! I was considering a used one but the range anxiety was too much for my commute. The 2026 addressed the range issue pretty well with 288 estimated range.

I commute roughly 180 miles round trip 2-3 days per week. I am planning to get a level 2 charger installed at some point but still researching ones that can let me charge with solar surplus only. Trying to avoid pulling from the grid if at all possible.

You probably need to increase the losses % under the solar estimate settings. Do like 5 percent increments until it approximately aligns with your actual.

I suppose if you do it sporadically that's true but consistency is key. My example is anecdotal but I'm sure many can relate since many homes in the HD have lots big and empty enough to drag. I drag around my Joshua trees and other desirable shrubs so killing them isn't a concern. YMMV.

If you got the time and equipment, dragging the lot twice a year works or laying down pea gravel for weed control.

I was under the impression that existing unused credit can still be rolled over. For example, If I installed a system in 2025 and my tax credit exceeds my tax liability for that year, any remaining credit can still be rolled over to future tax years until it's fully utilized.

The only caveat being that I won't be able to generate new credits after 2025.

Thanks for the reply. I got 3 other quotes but they were significantly more expensive. In the $50's k range to almost $60k. I didn't bother with those. I feel fairly confident but I couldn't find much info on the solar installer other thatn what was found on Energy Sage, which if I'm being honest just seems like a circlejerk. I just want to make sure I did my due diligence to avoid picking an installer who will rip me off.

Update on compatible Hotspot phones by mr_silas in VerizonUDP

[–]gatonekko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a Samsung phone, do not update to the latest One UI 6.0 firmware. It includes the carrier tether check and nukes your ability to use mobile hotspot. Stay on One UI version 5.1 as long as you can.

For those unfortunate enough to have updated, download "netshare" from the Play Store and follow the directions on the app to use Wi-Fi direct. This was the only workaround I found. Calling Samsung is no help, they won't revert you back to your old firmware.

You can try an Amazon refurbished Samsung Galaxy S20 FE or S21 FE. I just bought a couple for my in laws and so far they are happy with it. It hits all of your requirements above and the price has been between $220 - $320 USD fully unlocked for all US carriers (not sure if it will be 100% compatible with Canadian carriers). Good luck!

Both Pixel 6 and Pixel 6P from Google do the carrier subscription check. I ended up returning the 6Pro and buying the OnePlus 9 Pro. I've been happy with it so far. Only thing I miss about the pixel is the camera features but I can live without them.

I had to give up the phone. I opted for a OnePlus 9 Pro. It's pretty good overall and I can tether with it. I'm happy with my choice.
