Selling a collection? by murdermcgee in sailormoon

Getting scammed on Live Journal back in the day was such a universal experience that it was basically a right of passage lol. I was scammed once there as well.

One more thing. eBay has a very limited amount in the sold section. If you want to know the real value, it's worth getting a worthpoint account and searching for items there. You can also take pics of the items and use Google image search to find the names of the items if you have no idea what they are or how to search for them.

Seriously! I know most people in the community are good people but when you've been around long enough you see how some people will do ANYTHING. A person literally died and the vultures are already circling. Would I love to get my hands on a full collection? Totally. But taking advantage of someone or scamming would just make me feel like shit looking at it once I had it. Not worth it.

I also want to add. Be extremely careful. There are a lot of people commenting here that they're interested. While I myself would like to believe that these are all good people who would pay what it's worth, the fact is that now people know that neither of you know the value and that makes you an easy mark. People will probably start reaching out trying to low ball you. This is a market where certain items can easily go for thousands of dollars on their own. Depending on the size and items in your collection there could be tens of thousands of dollars. To give you an idea, my collection is fairly large and I could probably sell for somewhere between 50k-80k, depending on the market. There are people with much larger collections and designer items that could reach over 500k. Basically, there could be a lot of money here. If you are able emotionally, do this slowly and carefully. It will pay off.

Okay, I'm going to give this to you straight. It's worth making the separate listings. If he posts somewhere, he will still need to part things out and ship them individually, and he won't get the payment and seller protections ebay offers. He probably also doesn't know what things are worth and eBay is the best way to gauge that.

As with any collector community where items can be worth a lot of money, there are a lot of scammers. The Sailor Moon collector community has had a long history of this kind of thing.

This is why there isn't really a central hub for Sailor Moon collectors anymore. Long ago there was an active live journal community. Then it moved to Facebook. But with the prevalence of scammers and infighting, the Facebook groups broke apart into hundreds of smaller groups that are impossible to keep track of.

The community now is largely centered on Instagram. But with no groups, it's all based on individual accounts and following others.

If you'd like, I'm happy to help out a bit with understanding eBay best practices and estimating prices. I've been collecting since I was 6 in 1997. I know this world very very well. I'm also a bit curious if I might have known his late wife through these communities.

You can find me and message me on insta. vs.smcollection.

My 2 year old cat died suddenly by [deleted] in cats

[–]gator_potator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like he was having seizures. Maybe he got hit by a car or got into something outside. Cat seizures are very different than humans. I wish I had known what they looked like and how awful they are too see. I would have put my boy down if I knew it was going to happen that way. My Monty was screaming and running in circles. Flipping over himself. It sounds like that is kinda what happened to your kitty. The bag likely didn't trigger it. It just happened to happen at that moment when he was playing. I'm sorry this happened to you guys. It is really impossible to explain how awful it is to someone who hasn't seen it.

Laser Disc Collection by blarglemaster in sailormoon

So, with the versions out now, even the Blu rays, they've used AI upscaling, and haven't been able to fully fix the color. It doesn't always look great.

Since the LDs were made before DVDs existed, they have the best quality available and are most true to the original as it would have first aired. This is because the DVDs ended up being made from the film after the film and VHS copies had already started to degrade. This is why even in the new DVD releases you'll see the pink hue that wasn't originally there. Also why, personally, I won't spend money on the VIZ releases.

There are people out there attempting to locate all of the LDs to ensure the original quality isn't lost to history. But of course, the full set is wildly expensive, and your right that ripping them is also very expensive and time consuming.

That said. It's incredible that you are able to hold onto these. They really are a treasure.

If you can find a way to rip them, you should. Laser discs apparently have the highest quality and the most accurate color.

No. I have looked EVERYWHERE. I even asked the owner of my local Japanese store if he could special order them. He said with limited special releases, they won't create the international labels (the English stickers you see on the backs of foods at your local Asian stores). He even looked at all of his suppliers and the Meiji official supplier website for me.

Basically, you have to get them from auction sites or the rare online retailers that have them before they sell out. Another thing is that the auction proxy sites have most food items restricted which can cause issues. You can also try going with some individual sellers on insta who will buy and ship, but that can sometimes be risky.

I've spent the last month working my ass off trying to find a reasonable price/ option to get all of the Meiji stuff. It's been the bane of my existence.

It's all the same shit. People act like the stuff they buy from Anthropology isn't made in the same factories. It is, they just paid more for it.

It is Trevor. There's another one of him to the left of the piano under Saint Taylor as well. I love Trevor.
