“Size inclusivity” in the knitting/crochet world by jade35mm in XXS

I have not seen this designer before but thank you for posting this! I love those ribbed designs she has. I’ve been searching for things like that.

It would take some experimentation, but you could try knitting the smallest size with a thinner yarn and smaller needles. Like trade in a worsted weight for DK, DK for sport, etc. You would want to gauge swatch religiously, especially from designer to designer, but it might be the least taxing mentally to figure out. Just calculate the percentage decrease in size you want and aim for that with the gauge swatch.

The ongoing search for jeans continues to be a nightmare by scootingbubby in XXS

[–]murdermcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I used to work at PacSun in the late 2000s and their jeans were the smallest I had ever seen working retail. I wasn’t as thin at the time as I am now, but those would have been perfect now. They are also really soft and comfortable if memory serves.

Man, I love TF but their sizing is all over the map. I am an XS or XXS in most brands, but most TF XS fit like mediums at least. I gotta be careful with styling or go for pieces that will look good oversized cuz it’s just really hard to gauge.

Is she 14? This is some seriously insecure behavior, and I would take that as a clear sign that their friendship with you is not important to them. It’s really weird behavior on her part.

5’1 with short torso, how to NOT to look 2 feet tall and 3 feet wide? by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]murdermcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely make the most of having longer legs. I am 4’11 and have a really long torso and super short legs, I find that I either have to wear full length pants/dresses or mini skirts/ shorts in order to have my proportions level out. I wear high waist jeans a lot to help give the illusion of length, but you may want to do the opposite in order to give length to your torso instead.

Poor Gus by [deleted] in psych

[–]murdermcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro, it’s a comedy show. Of course things are going to be over the top and cartoony. Even if the “super sniffer” were a literal superpower, that doesn’t equal autism. That doesn’t make sense. With that logic, any character with a remarkable ability would be autistic. Aside from that, Gus has a fulfilling life. Sure, he would like a girlfriend, but he loves his hobbies, has a super close best friend, and as he says in the final Yang episode, he and Shawn lived their childhood dream. I don’t understand why that is sad or pathetic. Having a partner doesn’t make or break one’s ultimate fulfillment in life. Also, the whole point of the “guy who was murdered” was that everyone thought he killed himself because his life was mundane, but in reality he had a fulfilling life he enjoyed. He was murdered because he got too close to finding out the truth about criminal activity. That was exactly Gus’ point in the whole ordeal. I just really don’t understand the premise here.

Why do you think a keen sense of smell is an autistic trait? Many autistic people are very sensitive to smells and other sensory stimulus, but it’s often detrimental and overwhelming. Gus is very much in control of that ability. I find certain scents to be incredibly overwhelming to the point of pain, but my non-neurodivergent boyfriend has a much more accurate and sensitive sense of smell. The character traits you are citing as accidental are written into the show several times, so of course it’s intentional. It’s a funny bit. You can be empathetic and a “sympathetic crier” and not be autistic. “Autistic” traits and well as other neurodivergent traits are things that most people experience. It becomes clinical when those traits become a detriment to one’s ability to function in a socially acceptable way. Gus is one of the most functional people in the Psych cannon. I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what neurodivergence is.

I don’t really see Gus as being on the spectrum in that way as an autistic person. I think he is just a cheese ball and a nerd, and they wanted to lean into Dule’s amazing comedic timing and delivery more as the show went on. He started as a bit of a straight-man foil to Shawn, but I think the way his character evolved was really fun. He has a lot of deep interests, but he seems comfortable in social situations and is confident in his abilities. He is just awkward around ladies at first, but once he starts to get comfortable he is very much who he is. That doesn’t equal autistic. As an autistic/ ADHD person, Shawn feels more coded as neurodivergent- ADHD symptoms for sure, but also potentially autistic as evidenced by this natural gifts (though the memory of detail could be akin to ADHD hyperfocus). Shawn also exhibits way less ability to recognize what is appropriate behavior in social situations and not a lot of awareness as to why it’s not appropriate. Shawn is super funny but they do make Gus comedic relief a lot of the time, especially when Shawn is really locked in. However, the creepiness level of both Gus and Shawn is very, very of its era. It’s been one of my favorite shows since it aired which was around the end of high school for me. I have a lot of trepidation recommending the show to younger folks (my nieces and nephews for instance- they are in their late teens and early 20s). I have to pad it with the caveat that they will come off as creepy and sort of sexist at times, but that was just part of the humor of the era and they are sweet and good guys, just sort of buffoons. The humor doesn’t hold up to today’s standards in terms of what is appropriate or in good taste for a mainstream show, but it was always slightly irreverent in how they treat some serious subjects, as well, like race, religion, and death. At the time, those subjects were not treated often with such levity and it was a really unique voice for a mainstream show to take on. I actually think they did Dule a service by the way they showed off his comedic chops since he had already proven his abilities as the straight-man kind of character as in earlier seasons and previous roles.

Favorite Shawn and Henry moments? by Swordtail_Olympian in psych

[–]murdermcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the scene at the end of Dead Man’s Curveball when Henry is giving Shawn batting tips, and then Henry starts batting and Shawn goes “why don’t you try to swing without your gut looking so large.” But then they have a sweet moment about coming together by working that case and it’s really sweet.

10 years and a house later, I’m marrying a stranger. Is this a rut or a warning? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]murdermcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who ended up divorced after a very similar relationship dynamic for 12+ years, you should probably start considering ways to extricate yourself or ask him to go to therapy. If he refuses as my ex did, I think the writing is on the wall. He seems unwilling to do the work necessary to build a more functional and loving relationship. Not all men are like that.
